Efficient Design of Waveguide Manifold Multiplexers Based on Low-Order EM Distributed Models

In this paper, a new systematic technique to design manifold-coupled multiplexers in waveguide technology is proposed. The new technique uses generalized low-order electromagnetic (EM) distributed models, which constitute a half-way point between the fast, but imprecise, analytical models, and the more accurate, but costly, full-wave EM models. The method can be applied to contiguous and noncontiguous channel multiplexers, in both E-plane or H-plane configurations. Functional super Read-Out Driver demonstrator for the Phase II Upgrade of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter

This work presents the implementation of a functional super Read-Out Driver (sROD) demonstrator for the Phase II Upgrade of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter (TileCal) in the LHC experiment. The proposed front-end for the Phase II Upgrade communicates with back-end electronics using a multifiber optical connector with a data rate of 57.6 Gbps using the GBT protocol. Robustness of 40 Gb/s ASK modulation formats in the practical system infrastructure.

In this work, we analyzed by means of numerical and laboratory experiments the resilience of 40 Gb/s amplitude shift keying modulation formats to transmission impairments in standard single-mode fiber lines as well as to optical filtering introduced by the optical add/drop multiplexer cascade. Our study is a pre-requisite to assess the implementation of cost-effective 40 Gb/s modulation technology in next generation high bit-rate robust optical transport networks. © 2006 Optical Society of America.

Increase in the processing elements in a System-on- Chip (SoC) has led to an increasing complexity between the cores in the entire network. This communication bottleneck led to rise in the new paradigm called Network-on-Chip (NoC). Optical demultiplexing of millimeter-wave subcarriers for wireless channel distribution employing dual wavelength FBGs

Double sideband modulation with suppressed optical carrier and filtering properties of dual overwritten fiber Bragg gratings are the fundamentals for optical demultiplexing of mm-wave radio-on-fiber signals: using a single optical carrier, Millimeter-wave signals of 20 and 40 GHz frequencies carrying independent data are created, transmitted over fiber, demultiplexed and wireless distributed to be detected and data recovered in a mobile unit. Optical flip-flop memory and routing operation based on polarization bistability in optical fiber

A polarization bistability and hysteresis cycle phenomenon is demonstrated in optical fibers thanks to a counter-propagating four-wave mixing interaction. Based on this process, we successfully report the proof-of-principle of an optical flip-flop memory and a 10-Gbit/s routing operation.

Efficient and Accurate Consideration of Ohmic Losses in Waveguide Diplexers and Multiplexers

The accurate consideration of all ohmic losses effects in waveguide manifold diplexers and multiplexers is rigorously studied in this paper. For such purposes, a full-wave CAD tool based exclusively on modal methods is originally proposed. Proceeding in this very efficient way, losses are precisely considered in all common components of such complex devices, i.e. planar junctions, uniform lines and multi-port circuits implemented in waveguide technology. For verification purposes, we have successfully compared our results for a magic-T junction and a manifold diplexer with experimental and numerical results.
