Subjet multiplicity of gluon and quark jets reconstructed with thek⊥algorithm inpp¯collisions

The D empty set Collaboration has studied for the first time the properties of hadron-collider jets reconstructed with a successive-combination algorithm based on relative transverse momenta (k(perpendicular to)) of energy clusters. Using the standard value D = 1.0 of the jet-separation parameter in the k(perpendicular to) algorithm, we find that the p(T) of such jets is higher than the E-T of matched jets reconstructed with cones of radius R = 0.7, by about 5 (8) GeV at p(T) approximate to90 (240) GeV. Heavy quark flavour dependence of multiparticle production in QCD jets

After inserting the heavy quark mass dependence into QCD partonic evolution equations, we determine the mean charged hadron multiplicity and second multiplicity correlators of jets produced in high energy collisions. We thereby extend the so-called dead cone effect to the phenomenology of multiparticle production in QCD jets and find that the average multiplicity of heavy-quark initiated jets decreases significantly as compared to the massless case, even taking into account the weak decay products of the leading primary quark. We emphasize the relevance of our study as a complementary check of b-tagging techniques at hadron colliders like the Tevatron and the LHC.
Superlinear Robin Problems with Indefinite Linear Part

We consider a semilinear Robin problem with an indefinite linear part and a superlinear reaction term, which does not satisfy the usual in such cases AR condition. Using variational methods, together with truncation–perturbation techniques and Morse theory (critical groups), we establish the existence of three nontrivial solutions. Our result extends in different ways the multiplicity theorem of Wang.
Multiple solutions for strongly resonant Robin problems

We consider nonlinear (driven by the p†Laplacian) and semilinear Robin problems with indefinite potential and strong resonance with respect to the principal eigenvalue. Using variational methods and critical groups, we prove four multiplicity theorems producing up to four nontrivial smooth solutions.
A counterexample to a conjecture on linear systems on ℙ3

In this paper [1] Ciliberto proposes a conjecture in order to characterize special linear systems of IPn through multiple base points. In this note we give a counterexample to this conjecture by showing that there is a substantial difference between the speciality of linear systems on IP 2 and those of IP3.
Nonlinear Nonhomogeneous Elliptic Problems

We consider nonlinear elliptic equations driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. The boundary condition is either Dirichlet or Robin (including as a special case the Neumann problem). First we present the corresponding regularity theory (up to the boundary). Then we develop the nonlinear maximum principle and present some important nonlinear strong comparison principles. Subsequently we see how these results together with variational methods, truncation and perturbation techniques, and Morse theory (critical groups) can be used to analyze different classes of elliptic equations. The effect exerted by some amines and alcohols on the 1H NMR spectra of 1-butyl-3- methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [bmim][BF4] has been studied. This ionic liquid, which is one of the most widely used, is characterized by a high structural order degree, as a consequence of the symmetry and the coordination ability of the anion. In order to have information about the dependence of the detected effects on the alcohol or amine structure, some different primary, secondary and tertiary amines and alcohols have been considered. Measurement of thett¯production cross section inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeVusing soft electronb-tagging

The authors present a measurement of the t{bar t} production cross section using events with one charged lepton and jets from p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. A b-tagging algorithm based on the probability of displaced tracks coming from the event interaction vertex is applied to identify b quarks from top decay. Using 318 pb{sup -1} of data collected with the CDF II detector, they measure the t{bar t} production cross section in events with at least one restrictive (tight) b-tagged jet and obtain 8.9{sub -1.0}{sup +1.0}(stat.){sub -1.0}{sup +1.1}(syst.) pb.
