Background & Aims: Plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol are frequently found decreased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Therefore, and because HDL exerts anti-inflammatory activities, we investigated whether HDL and its major protein component apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) modulate mucosal inflammatory responses in vitro and in vivo. Priežu sveķotājkoksngrauzis (Nothorhina muricata) ir reti sastopama un maz pētīta suga gan Latvijā, gan Eiropā, kas tiek izmantota kā dabisko mežu indikatorsuga. Latvijā šī suga iekļauta īpaši aizsargājamo sugu sarakstā. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot priežu sveķotājkoksngrauža aktuālo sastopamību uz priedēm, un kādi faktori to varētu ietekmēt. Par pētījuma teritoriju izvēlēts Slīteres NP, jo tajā ir viena no zināmajām vietām Latvijā ar lielu populācijas atradņu skaitu. Pētījumā izmantota atkārtotā izskreju uzskiates metode, kurā izmantoti dati par 107 kokiem. Jauno izskreju skaits ir saistīts ar veco izskreu skaitu un koka sasveķojuma pakāpi. International audience; In the Sierra Madre Oriental (Mexico), the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Upper Sinemurian can be refined. It has been possible to differentiate 11 horizons from the upper Obtusum Zone to the top of the Raricostatum Zone which are correlated with the NW European standard zonation. The index species of each horizon is figured.

Annona cherimola (Cherimoya) and Annona atemoya (Atemoya) are tropical plants known for their edible fruit. Scientific data suggest that their leaves, used in traditional medicine in the form of teas or infusions without evidence of toxicity, contain several bioactive compounds. However, only Annona muricata among all the Annona species is currently used in the nutraceutical field, and its dried leaves are marketed for tea preparation. Behaviour of cyclic bank voles under risk of mustelid predation: do females avoid copulations?

Mustelid odours have been shown to suppress breeding in captive bank voles (Clethrionomys glareolus) from cyclic populations (Ylonen 1989; Ylonen and Ronkainen 1994). The mechanism behind the suppression is unknown. Based on a series of behavioural trials and breeding experiments with pairs of bank voles in breeding condition, we suggest that the primary cause for breeding suppression is a change in female mating behaviour. Experimental female-male pairs (n=34) exposed to mustelid odour decreased their general activity compared to control pairs (n=34). Ophiobolin Sesterterpenoids and Pyrrolidine Alkaloids from the Sponge-Derived Fungus Aspergillus ustus

Chemical examination of the fungus Aspergillus ustus isolated from the Mediterranean sponge Suberites domuncula yielded the five new ophiobolin-type sesterterpenoids 1–5 and the two new pyrrolidine alkaloids 6 and 7, together with the known compound aurantiamine and cerebroside D. The structures of the new compounds were unambiguously elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic-data analysis (1D- and 2D-NMR, MS, and UV) and comparison with literature data. All compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against murine lymphoma cell line L5178Y.

Introduction: BCG and MMC shortage and Covid-19 pandemic, more recently, limit accessibility to maintenance regimen in intravesical prophylaxis against recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).
