Rodilla del saltador

1988

61 jumper's knees (fifty patients) are studied. Predisposing factors, clinical and radiographyc manifestacions are relationated in order to obtain a more effective treatment. 50% showed radiographyc disturbances of the patellar vertex, 25% had hight patella and 20% condromalacia was associated. Surgery was performed in 10 knees, and conservative treatment in the rest. Poor results and relapses arose in later treated cases. Prevention and early treatment are very important in these cases.

Fracturas de estrés en la escápula y factores de riesgo : a propósito de un caso y revisión de la literatura

2017

Scapula stress fracture is an uncommon injury. Some cases have been described in sportsmen, handworkers, rotator cuff arthropathy and reversed shoulder arthroplasty; being infrequent the association with crutch´s repetitive load. Treatment should be individualized and depends of patient characteristics, comorbidities and displacement. The article describes a case of a scapular spine´s stress fracture, and a literature review is being performed. Case Report is an 86 year old woman with corticoids treatment history and ilio-pubic ramus fracture. She walked with a crutch since that fractures. Patient begins gradually with pain and limited mobility in shoulder without trauma. CT scan showed fra…

Bioactividad del polimetilmetacrilato (cemento óseo) modificado

1988

The polymethylmetacrylate bone cement reaction in clinical practice is conditioned in part by its biological activity and ageing An in vivo and in vitro experimental study was conducted to elucidate the possible implications of some bone cements mineral additives on bioactivity behaviour. ' Some substances (as quartz and wollastonite) can develop bioactivity phenomena when added to PMMA cement and may enhance its biological compatibility.

Synovial chondromatosis of the temporomandibular joint

2007

Posterior Shoulder Instability

2020

Posterior shoulder instability is often hard to diagnose with clinical examination. Patients generally present with vague pain, weakness, and/or joint clicking but less frequently complaining of frank sensation of instability. Imaging examinations, especially MR imaging and magnetic resonance arthrography, have a pivotal role in the identification and management of this condition. This review describes the pathologic micro/macrotraumatic magnetic resonance features of posterior shoulder instability as well as the underlying joint abnormalities predisposing to this condition, including developmental anomalies of the glenoid fossa, humeral head, posterior labrum, and capsular and ligamentous …

MUSCLE BIOENERGETIC ABNORMALITY IN MYOTONIC-DYSTROPHY - A SECONDARY MITOCHONDRIAL DISORDER

1993

International audience; Abstract: The thenar muscles and gastrocnemius of a patient with myotonic dystrophy were investigated, at rest, by phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. A decrease in phosphocreatine level and an increase in inorganic phosphate and phosphodiester levels were found in the gastrocnemius, which was clinically spared, whilst the thenar muscles, which were wasted and affected by myotonia, exhibited only an increased inorganic phosphate level and an elevated pH. These findings were comparable with those found in other muscular disorders, such as Duchenne's and Becker's dystrophies, as well as in limb girdle dystrophy. They suggested that the abnormalities obs…

Obesity and functional gait recovery after total hip and total knee arthroplasties : clinical and biomechanical analysis

2018

Introduction : Body Mass Index (BMI) impact on gait recovery after total hip and total knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA) remains misunderstood. Few studies have analyzed the influence of BMI on the recovery of hip and knee range of motion (ROM) during gait or walking speed after THA and TKA. Our objective was to assess this impact preoperatively and post-operatively using both 3D gait analysis and clinical assessment. Our hypothesis was that obesity (BMI> 30kg /m2) would be a negative factor in the recovery of gait parameters.Material and methods: After conducting a systematic review of the literature on functional recovery after total prostheses of the lower limb (THA and TKA) to ensure the …

Gastrocnemius tendon length and strain are different when assessed using straight or curved tendon model

2011

The present study investigated the effects of tendon curvature on measurements of tendon length using 3D-kinematic analysis. Curved and straight tendon models were employed for assessing medial gastrocnemius tendon length and strain during hopping (N = 8). Tendon curvature was identified using small reflective markers placed on the skin surface along the length of the tendon and a sum of vectors between the markers from the calcaneous up to the marker at the origin of tendon was calculated. The straight tendon was defined as a length of vector from the calcaneous to the marker at the origin of tendon. The curved tendon method yielded 5.0 ± 1.3 mm longer tendon (p < 0.001) than the straight …
