Stones, maps and cities
2021

The Norman myth in the artistic culture of Hapsburgs’ Sicily: identity construction and representation of power
2015
Effectiveness of a mobile app intervention to prevent dating violence in residential child care
2020
ABSTRACT This study focuses on the effectiveness of an app-based, monitored intervention using the Liad@s app in a residential youth-care setting. The aim of this intervention is to reduce maladaptive beliefs and attitudes linked to dating violence: distortions or myths about romantic love and hostile and benevolent dimensions of sexism. A quasi-experimental pre-post study with a control group was carried out. Participants were 71 adolescents from 9 group homes in Valencia (Spain). The outcomes measures were hostile and benevolent sexism (Ambivalent Sexism Inventory - ASI), ambivalence and prejudice towards men (Ambivalence toward Men Inventory - AMI), and myths about romantic love. The res…
Festive Traditions in Modernity: The Public Sphere of the Festival of the ‘Fallas’ in Valencia (Spain)
2002
Festive sociability is central for the transmission of tradition and is a fundamental field of interaction between the festive tradition and modernity. This sociability has a reflexivity and a public sphere of its own. The dominant modernist opposition between tradition and modernity is questioned with the help of a recent study of the Fire Festival of the ‘Fallas’ (Valencia, Spain).
Gender-Differences in Sport and Movement in Finland
1988
Male and female age-cohorts resemble each other quite clearly in their sport involvement. The greatest differences between men and women are shown to be in organized and competitive sports mainly practiced by men, and in so-called "untied" movement (i.e. physical exercise that does not require any pre-arrangements), more of a female domain. The various age-cohorts differ in sport involvement from each other more among men than among women. This is examined from several angles: as a question of role or gender expectations, of different life-situations and possibilities, of different meanings and contents of sport and movement, and of different sport cultures and myths.

BOLOGNE ET LES ÉTUDES : CONSIDÉRATIONS SUR LE CHAPITRE V DES FIORETTI
2013
Anny w XX i XXI wieku
2021
The article describes the way St. Anne’s Mountain has been presented over time by giving it different meanings and (re)interpretations on religious and historical-political levels. The religious description of this place is defined by a pompous narrative style and appealing to readers’ emotions. In the historical-political dimension, the mechanism of national mythologization and instrumentalization of St. Anne’s Mountain were shown. It was also pointed out that after 1989 another reinterpretation took place, taking the form of the reconciliation rhetoric. The role of the Catholic Church in the process is presented and the dangers are indicated: reducing reconciliation to a vapid expression …
