A STAT4 variant increases liver fibrosis risk in Caucasian patients with chronic hepatitis B

2018

Background Host genetic modifiers of the natural history of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) remain poorly understood. Recently, a genome-wide association study (GWAS)-identified polymorphism in the STAT4 gene that contributes to the risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was shown to be associated with the full spectrum of hepatitis B virus (HBV) outcomes in Asian patients. However, the functional mechanisms for this effect are unknown and the role of the variant in modulating HBV disease in Caucasians has not been investigated. Aims To determine whether STAT4 genetic variation is associated with liver injury in Caucasian patients with CHB and to investigate potential mechanisms mediating this e…

Association of interleukin-10G microsatellite polymorphism with the susceptibility of ankylosing spondylitis

2013

Study suggests an association of IL10.G poly- morphisms with AS which might contribute to the increased or decreased susceptibility to AS. IL10.G8 and G7 microsatellites alleles appear as protective alleles against the development of AS in the German subjects investigated here. Allele IL10.G9 seems to be a risk factor for the development of AS. This protective effect of variant promoter alleles could be related to differences in IL- 10 production, which may be clinically relevant.

Osteoprotegerin expression in liver is induced by IL-13 through TGF-β

2020

1.AbstractBackgroundsOsteoprotegerin (OPG) is a profibrotic mediator produced by myofibroblasts under influence of transforming growth factor β (TGFβ). Its expression in experimental models of liver fibrosis correlates well with disease severity and treatment responses. The regulation of OPG in liver tissue is largely unknown and we therefore set out to elucidate which growth factors/interleukins associated with fibrosis induce OPG and through which pathways.MethodsPrecision-cut liver slices of wild type and STAT6-deficient mice and 3T3 fibroblasts were used to investigate the effects of TGFβ, interleukin (IL) 13 (IL13), IL1β, and platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB) on expression of…

Interleukin 1 Gene Polymorphisms Presumably Participate in the Pathogenesis of Chronic Spontaneous Autocreative Urticaria

2020

Recent studies underline a potential role of autoimmune and genetic disturbances in this disorder pathogenesis. Variants in genes related to inflammatory processes may possibly predispose to chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) occurrence. The objective of this study was to search for an association of Il1 genes polymorphisms with the pathogenesis of CSU. The examined group consisted of 153 unrelated chronic spontaneous autoreactive urticaria patients. The control group consisted of 104 unrelated healthy volunteers. In all studied subjects, IL1 rs1304037 and rs180058 polymorphisms were examined. The Urticaria Activity Score was used to assess disease intensity. The age of disease onset was a…

Treatment with a CO-releasing molecule (CORM-3) reduces joint inflammation and erosion in murine collagen-induced arthritis.

2008

Contains fulltext : 70589.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) OBJECTIVE: CO-releasing molecules (CO-RMs) are a novel class of anti-inflammatory agents. We have examined the possible therapeutic effects of CORM-3 in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). METHODS: Arthritis was induced in DBA-1/J mice by type II collagen. Animals were treated with CORM-3 (5 and 10 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) or the inactive compound iCORM-3 (10 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) unable to release CO, from days 22 to 31. Production of anti-type II collagen antibodies, cytokines and cartilage olimeric matrix protein (COMP) was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) by rad…

Terrorismin vastaisen sodan poliittisuus : Tony Blairin puheet syyskuun yhdennestätoista Afganistanin sotaan romanttisena narratiivina

2008

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää terrorismin vastaisen sodan poliittinen merkitys, jota etsitään Tony Blairin pitämistä puheista syyskuun yhdennentoista terroristiiskujen ja Afganistanin sodan välisenä aikana. Poliittisena perspektiivinä on hyödynnetty saksalaisen poliittisen teoreetikon Carl Schmittin (1888–1985) määritelmää poliittisesta ystävä/ vihollinen –erotteluna, johon sisältyy sodan mahdollisuus. Tämän lisäksi tutkimuksessa on sovellettu Schmittin käsitystä konkreettisesta järjestyksestä, joka koostuu relatiivisen homogeenisyyden jakavista poliittisista entiteeteistä, ja partisaanista, joka tarjoaa implisiittisen määritelmän terroristista. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostuu T…

Johdanto. Tyypin 1 diabetesta sairastavilla valtimosairauksien riski on huomattavasti kohonnut verrattuna henkilöihin, joilla ei ole diabetesta. Fyysisen aktiivisuuden on osoitettu olevan yhteydessä matalampaan sydän- ja verisuonisairauksien riskiin, minkä takia fyysisen aktiivisuuden lisääminen voisi auttaa tyypin 1 diabeetikkojen sairastumisriskin hallitsemisessa. Tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli vertailla nilkka-olkavarsipainesuhdetta (ABI) ja valtimoiden jäykkyyttä CAVI-indeksillä mitattuna tyypin 1 diabetes…

A novel intrinsically disordered outer membrane lipoprotein ofAggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitansbinds various cytokines and plays a role in biofil…

2017

Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) do not have a well-defined and stable 3-dimensional fold. Some IDPs can function as either transient or permanent binders of other proteins and may interact with an array of ligands by adopting different conformations. A novel outer membrane lipoprotein, bacterial interleukin receptor I (BilRI) of the opportunistic oral pathogen Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans binds a key gatekeeper proinflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-1b. Because the amino acid sequence of the novel lipoprotein resembles that of fibrinogen binder A of Haemophilus ducreyi, BilRI could have the potential to bind other proteins, such as host matrix proteins. However, from th…
