Research of Complex Forms in Cellular Automata by Evolutionary Algorithms
2004
This paper presents an evolutionary approach for the search for new complex cellular automata. Two evolutionary algorithms are used: the first one discovers rules supporting gliders and periodic patterns, and the second one discovers glider guns in cellular automata. An automaton allowing us to simulate AND and NOT gates is discovered. The results are a step toward the general simulation of Boolean circuits by this automaton and show that the evolutionary approach is a promising technic for searching for cellular automata that support universal computation.
Mobiiliopetuksen käyttömahdollisuuksia : oppilaiden omien mobiililaitteiden käyttö peruskoulun alakoulun opetuksessa
2015
Muutaman viime vuoden aikana mobiililaitteiden käyttö kouluissa on yleistynyt. Tämä on osittain aiheuttanut ristiriitaista keskustelua laitteiden käytöstä opetuksessa. Osa opettajista on ottanut mobiililaitteet opetuskäyttöön innokkaasti. Tutkimus teht…
Personalized multimedia touristic services for hybrid broadcast/broadband mobile receivers
2010
This paper presents the topology of a multimedia tourism service that targets mobile devices equipped with broadband and either multicast or broadcast access capabilities. Multicast / Broadcast access is used to handle the delivery of multimedia data to many simultaneous users in the service area. The solution adopted is based on existing standards for mobile TV services, but introducing features that enable the provision of generic multimedia services on top of mobile hybrid broadband and broadcast networks. Furthermore, this paper shows how to use standardized interfaces originally defined for interactive mobile TV broadcasting to build personalized mobile multimedia services that do not …
Human-in-the-Loop Conversation Agent for Customer Service
2020
This paper describes a prototype system for partial automation of customer service operations of a mobile telecommunications operator with a human-in-the loop conversational agent. The agent consists of an intent detection system for identifying the types of customer requests that it can handle appropriately, a slot filling information extraction system that integrates with the customer service database for a rule-based treatment of the common scenarios, and a template-based language generation system that builds response candidates that can be approved or amended by customer service operators. The main focus of this paper is on the system architecture and machine learning system structure …
IFN-γ–Producing CD4+ T Cells Promote Generation of Protective Germinal Center–Derived IgM+ B Cell Memory against Salmonella Typhi
2014
Abstract Abs play a significant role in protection against the intracellular bacterium Salmonella Typhi. In this article, we investigated how long-term protective IgM responses can be elicited by a S. Typhi outer-membrane protein C– and F–based subunit vaccine (porins). We found that repeated Ag exposure promoted a CD4+ T cell–dependent germinal center reaction that generated mutated IgM-producing B cells and was accompanied by a strong expansion of IFN-γ–secreting T follicular helper cells. Genetic ablation of individual cytokine receptors revealed that both IFN-γ and IL-17 are required for optimal germinal center reactions and production of porin-specific memory IgM+ B cells. However, mor…
A review of carbonatitic magmatism in the Parana-Angola-Namibia (PAN) system.
2007
Mesozoic to Cenozoic alkaline-carbonatitic complexes from southern Brazil, Angola and Namibia occur along main tectonic lineaments. In general, the alkaline-carbonatite complexes show intrusive/subintrusive, subcircular or oval shaped structures and are indicative of high upwelling energy. Processes of liquid immiscibility from trachytic-phonolitic liquids, starting from parental alkaline mafic magmas are believed to have generated carbonatitic liquids, as suggested by field relationships and geochemical characteristics. Ca-, Mg- and Fe-carbonatites are widespread even in the same complex. The occurrences comprise three main chronogroups, i.e. 1) Early Cretaceous (Eastern Paraguay; Brazil, …
Anion-driven encapsulation of cationic guests inside pyridine[4]arene dimers
2019
Pyridine[4]arenes have previously been considered as anion binding hosts due to the electron-poor nature of the pyridine ring. Herein, we demonstrate the encapsulation of Me4N+ cations inside a dimeric hydrogen-bonded pyridine[4]arene capsule, which contradicts with earlier assumptions. The complexation of a cationic guest inside the pyridine[4]arene dimer has been detected and studied by multiple gas-phase techniques, ESI-QTOF-MS, IRMPD, and DT-IMMS experiments, as well as DFT calculations. The comparison of classical resorcinarenes with pyridinearenes by MS and NMR experiments reveals clear differences in their host–guest chemistry and implies that cation encapsulation in pyridine[4]arene…
Evolution of the leucine gene cluster in Buchnera aphidicola: insights from chromosomal versions of the cluster.
2004
ABSTRACT In Buchnera aphidicola strains associated with the aphid subfamilies Thelaxinae, Lachninae, Pterocommatinae, and Aphidinae, the four leucine genes ( leuA , - B , - C , and - D ) are located on a plasmid. However, these genes are located on the main chromosome in B. aphidicola strains associated with the subfamilies Pemphiginae and Chaitophorinae. The sequence of the chromosomal fragment containing the leucine cluster and flanking genes has different positions in the chromosome in B. aphidicola strains associated with three tribes of the subfamily Pemphiginae and one tribe of the subfamily Chaitophorinae. Due to the extreme gene order conservation of the B. aphidicola genomes, the v…

Review of the Hartig type collection of Alloxysta (Hymenoptera: Figitidae:Charipinae) and other Alloxysta material deposited in the Zoologische Staat…
2014
Hartig's collection of Alloxysta species, deposited in the Zoologische Staatssammlung Museum (ZSM, Munich, Germany), is here reviewed. In total, 19 species and 144 specimens have been studied. Fourteen species, of the previous twenty-two, are now valid: Alloxysta aperta (Hartig, 1841), A. brachyptera (Hartig, 1840), A. castanea (Hartig, 1841), A. circumscripta (Hartig, 1841), A. fuscicornis (Hartig, 1841), A. leunisii (Hartig, 1841), A. longipennis (Hartig, 1841), A. macrophadna (Hartig, 1841), A. melanogaster (Hartig, 1840), A. obscurata (Hartig, 1840), A. pilipennis (Hartig, 1840), A. postica (Hartig, 1841), A. minuta (Hartig, 1840) and A. rufiventris (Hartig, 1840). These species are red…
