Purpose To evaluate the usefulness of abdominal ultrasound examination (US) for the diagnostic workup of cases of suspected CD involving negative serum antibodies and difficult diagnosis. Materials and methods 524 consecutive patients with symptoms of suspected CD underwent an extensive diagnostic workup. 76 (14 %) were excluded since they were positive for serum anti-tTG and/or EmA antibodies. 377 were excluded since they were diagnosed with something other than CD or did not have the alleles encoding for HLA DQ 2 or DQ 8. Background Celiac disease (CD) diagnosis is becoming more difficult as patients with no intestinal histology lesions may also be suffering from CD. Aim To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of antiendomysium (EmA) assay in the culture medium of intestinal biopsies for CD diagnosis. Patients and methods The clinical charts of 418 patients with CD and 705 non-CD controls who had all undergone EmA assay in the culture medium were reviewed. Psoriasis impacts the quality of life (QoL) by disrupting overall health and social life. Thus, the use of a QoL evaluation item is crucial in assessing a therapeutic regimen. Also, faster improvements in QoL lead to better patient compliance, but very few studies compare psoriasis traditional and biologic therapies timing. The authors' objective in this study was to evaluate whether gliomas occur preferentially in the areas of the brain having the highest radio-frequency exposure. Ménétrier's disease in a patient with refractory ulcerative colitis: a clinical challenge and review of the literature

Ménétrier’s disease (MD) is a rare disease of the stomach, characterised by hypertrophic gastric folds leading to protein loss. The association with ulcerative colitis (UC) is rare but has been reported in the literature. We report a case of a 29-year-old male affected by UC with an additional diagnosis of MD 3 years after UC diagnosis. UC was refractory to several treatment lines (thiopurines, infliximab, vedolizumab and ustekinumab), and the patient underwent colectomy. Octreotide was administered for MD normalising blood biochemistry, but it was not effective in inducing endoscopic remission of the stomach. Treatment options in patients with MD and UC are discussed.
A phase II study of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin oxaliplatin and cyclophosphamide as second-line treatment in relapsed ovarian carcinoma

We carried out a phase II nonrandomized study to examine the level of activity of oxaliplatin, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide in a patient population with relapsed ovarian cancer pretreated with platinum derivatives and paclitaxel. Patients received oxaliplatin (85 mg/m2), pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (30 mg/m2), and cyclophosphamide (750 mg/m2). A total of 49 patients (39 assessable for toxicity and response) were enrolled in this trial. Neutropenia grade 3 was observed in six patients (15%) and anemia grade 3 in one patient (0.2%). The saltwater culture of a Penicillium chrysogenum strain isolated from the Mediterranean sponge Ircinia fasciculata yielded three new sorbicillin-derived compounds (1-3), whose structures were elucidated mainly by 2D NMR and mass spectrometry. Among them, sorbicillactones A (1) and B (2) are the first sorbicillinoid natural products that contain nitrogen. Compound 1 is anti-HIV active and it exhibits a strong cytotoxic activity against L5178y leukemic cells, combined with a relatively low toxicity to cervical carcinoma HeLa S3 cells and pheochromocytoma PC 12 cells.
