Influence of agents that act on DNA and RNA synthesis on the activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase

1975

The activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase is enhanced in the presence of spermine and spermidine. Among the adenosine-like antibiotics tested, only formycin B and showdomycin cause an inhibition of the enzyme, which is competitive to NAD. The activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase is not reduced by rifamycin, alpha-amanitin and 2-phenylethanol.

First-order and tricritical wetting transitions in the two-dimensional Ising model caused by interfacial pinning at a defect line

2014

We present a study of the critical behavior of the Blume-Capel model with three spin states (S=±1,0) confined between parallel walls separated by a distance L where competitive surface magnetic fields act. By properly choosing the crystal field (D), which regulates the density of nonmagnetic species (S=0), such that those impurities are excluded from the bulk (where D=) except in the middle of the sample [where DM(L/2)≠], we are able to control the presence of a defect line in the middle of the sample and study its influence on the interface between domains of different spin orientations. So essentially we study an Ising model with a defect line but, unlike previous work where defect lines …

Vanadyl dithiolate single molecule transistors: the next spintronic frontier?

2018

The role of Chemistry in the road towards quantum devices is the design of elementary pieces with a built-in function. A brilliant example is the use of molecular transistors as nuclear spin detectors, which, up to now, has been implemented only on [TbPc$_2$]$^-$. We argue that this is an artificial constraint and critically discuss the limitations of current theoretical approaches to assess the potential of molecules for their use in spintronics. In connection with this, we review the recent progress in the preparation of highly coherent spin qubits based on vanadium dithiolate complexes and argue that the use of vanadyl dithiolates as single molecule transistors to read and control a trip…

Bacterial 2,3-butanediol dehydrogenases

1978

Enterobacter aerogenes, Aeromonas hydrophila, Serratia marcescens and Staphylococcus aureus possessing L(+)-butanediol dehydrogenase produced mainly meso-butanediol and small amounts of optically active butanediol; Acetobacter suboxydans, Bacillus polymyxa and Erwinia carotovora containing D(-)-butanediol dehydrogenase produced more optically active butanediol than meso-butanediol. Resting and growing cells of these organisms oxidezed only one enantiomer of racemic butanediol. The D(-)-butanediol dehydrogenase from Bacillus polymyxa was partially purified (30-fold) with a specific activity of 24.5. Except NAD and NADH no other cofactors were required. Optimum pH-values for oxidation and red…
