Preparation of extracts from mature spruce needles for enzymatic analyses

1987

It was possible to extract simultaneously several active enzymes involved in the carbohydrate or the amino acid metabolism from spruce needles [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] when a) a 100 mM Na-Pi buffer of pH 7.5 containing 5% PVPP and 0.5% Triton X-100 was used and when b) the resulting crude extracts were freed from lowmolecular-weight compounds by gel-chromatography using the separation medium Fractogel TSK HW-40. Besides Triton X-100, Triton X-305, Myrij-52 and Brij-35 were tested, but 0.5% Triton X-100 brought about the most active enzyme extracts. In crude extracts prepared from spruce needles during the early summer a high increase in absorbance at 334 nm was observed when the co-substra…

Synthesis and activity of zirconocene catalysts supported on silica-type sol-gel carrier for ethylene polymerization

2001

Synthesis and activity of bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride catalyst supported on unconventional silica-type material obtained in sol-gel process and activated by organoaluminium co-catalyst were studied. The effect of support modification conditions (thermal dehydration and/or modification by organoaluminium compound) and a type of co-catalyst on an activity of the catalytic system in ethylene polymerization and properties of resulting polymers were investigated and compared with results obtained earlier for vanadium catalysts supported on mentioned sol-gel carrier. The most appropriate method of the sol-gel silica-type support preparation is thermal pre-treating (200°C) followed b…

The comparative behavior of Lactococcus lactis in free and immobilized culture processes

1998

This study presents the changes in the physiological state of Lactococcus lactis in different actively growing systems. The intracellular pH (pHin), NADH/NAD ratio and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity were measured in free cell batch culture with or without external pH (pHout) control, and in continuous free or immobilized cell reactors. In free cell batch culture it has been shown that the pHin is dependent both on pHout and age of the culture, while in free cell continuous culture the pHin and the pHout are close together. The NADH/NAD ratio varied inversely with the growth rate, which was related to the changes in the metabolic activities in lactococci. The specificity of the immobil…

Metabolic cross-talk between pathways of terpenoid backbone biosynthesis in spike lavender

2015

Abstract The metabolic cross-talk between the mevalonate (MVA) and the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathways in developing spike lavender ( Lavandula latifolia Med) was analyzed using specific inhibitors and on the basis of 13 C-labeling experiments. The presence of mevinolin (MEV), an inhibitor of the MVA pathway, at concentrations higher than 0.5 μM significantly reduced plant development, but not the synthesis of chlorophylls and carotenoids. On the other hand, fosmidomycin (FSM), an inhibitor of the MEP pathway, at concentrations higher than 20 μM blocked the synthesis of chlorophyll, carotenoids and essential oils, and significantly reduced stem development. Notably, 1.2 mM MVA cou…

Nitroglycerin-Induced Endothelial Dysfunction and Tolerance Involve Adverse Phosphorylation and S -Glutathionylation of Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synt…

2011

Objective— Continuous administration of nitroglycerin (GTN) causes tolerance and endothelial dysfunction by inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production from various enzymatic sources, such as mitochondria, NADPH oxidase, and an uncoupled endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). In the present study, we tested the effects of type 1 angiotensin (AT 1 )-receptor blockade with telmisartan on GTN-induced endothelial dysfunction in particular on eNOS phosphorylation and S -glutathionylation sites and the eNOS cofactor synthesizing enzyme GTP–cyclohydrolase I. Methods and Results— Wistar rats were treated with telmisartan (2.7 or 8 mg/kg per day PO for 10 days) and with GTN (50 mg/kg per d…

Synthesis of V-ZrSiO4 solid solutions

1990

This letter describes the results of the preparation of V-ZrSiO 4 solid solutions from a sol or alkoxide and solute salts. This technique allows a greater degree of product formation to be achieved at lower temperatures, as well as the possibility of studying the characteristics of possible solid solutions

Selective oxidation of propane and ethane on diluted Mo–V–Nb–Te mixed-oxide catalysts

2007

Abstract Te-free and Te-containing Mo–V–Nb mixed oxide catalysts were diluted with several metal oxides (SiO 2 , γ -Al 2 O 3 , α -Al 2 O 3 , Nb 2 O 5 , or ZrO 2 ), characterized, and tested in the oxidation of ethane and propane. Bulk and diluted Mo–V–Nb–Te catalysts exhibited high selectivity to ethylene (up to 96%) at ethane conversions 10 % , whereas the corresponding Te-free catalysts exhibited lower selectivity to ethylene. The selectivity to ethylene decreased with the ethane conversion, with this effect depending strongly on the diluter and the catalyst composition. For propane oxidation, the presence of diluter exerted a negative effect on catalytic performance (decreasing the forma…

Soft hydrothermal synthesis of new microporous materials based on phosphate-like species

1994

ABSTRACTFactors controlling hydrothermal synthetic procedures are not well understood. A good knowledge of the solution chemistry of precursor species is the best reference for the design of rational procedures. Examples of the predictive character of simple models in order to rationalize complex syntheses are discussed in detail.

New trends in V–P–O solids

1999

On the basis of the industrial interest of the oxovanadium phosphate catalysts, current research effort in this field is focused mainly on the development of synthetic strategies directed towards obtaining open-framework materials. There is a growing body of work describing preparations using hydrothermal procedures under a diversity of conditions. A great number of new solids, whose nets range from lamellar arrays to micro- and mesostructured organizations, has been prepared in last years. In this context, the applicability of concepts and procedures from the zeolites chemistry to systems involving transition elements is critically analyzed.
