Bērnu agresijas novēršanas paņēmieni jaunākajā pirmsskolas vecumā
2017
Kvalifikācijas darba autors: Aija Lāce Kvalifikācijas darba zinātniskā vadītāja: profesore, Dr. psych. Tija Zīriņa Kvalifikācijas darba temats: Bērnu agresijas novēršanas paņēmieni jaunākajā pirmsskolas vecumā. Kvalifikācijas darbs sastāv no anotācijas, satura, ievada, divām nodaļām, secinājumiem un literatūras saraksta. Kvalifikācijas darba hipotēze konstatē to, ka bērnu rosināšana cienīt vienam otru ikdienas saskarsmē un pedagoga ieklausīšanās un bērna viedokļu uzklausīšana ir efektīvi paņēmieni, lai novērstu bērnu agresivitāti jaunākajā pirmskolas vecuma posmā. Kvalifikācijas darba mērķos ietilpa: analizēt pedagogu un psihologu teoriju atziņas par bērnu agresīvu uzvedību, raksturot agres…
Trouble always comes in threes: three mutations for three auto inflammatory genes in a child and in his father
2014
The coexistence of mutations in more than one gene, linked to Autoinflammatory Diesases, can confuse and make difficult the diagnosis and management of these patients, especially in childhood, when the clinical history is still brief.
Indirect effects of invasive crayfish on native fish parasites
2013
Interactions between invasive and native species are often modified by parasites. One little-studied scenario is that invasive species affect parasite transmission to native hosts by altering the relative abundance of hosts needed in parasite life cycles, for example by predation on these hosts. Here we show that presence of an invasive crayfish species, Pacifastacus leniusculus, decreases the mean abundance of native parasites transmitted from snails and aquatic isopods to perch, Perca fluviatilis, in two large boreal lakes in Finland. In contrast, parasites transmitted to the fish from planktonic copepods or mussels, hosts not readily preyed on by crayfish, were not affected by crayfish p…
Subjugation, freedom, and recognition in Poulain de la Barre and Simone de Beauvoir
2022
In 1949, Simone de Beauvoir cited the fairly unknown author Poulain de la Barre in an epigraph for The Second Sex (1949). When reading The Second Sex, one soon realizes that there are profound similarities between the two authors’ discussions of women’s situation. Both Poulain and Beauvoir view the subjection of women as a process that includes choice as well as force. Liberation necessarily requires overcoming opinions rooted in custom and prejudice. The article develops a comparison between the arguments of Poulain and Beauvoir in order to illuminate interesting features in the works of both authors. The focus is on similarities as well as differences. The first section examines how preju…
Quantum-corrected rotating black holes and naked singularities in ( 2+1 ) dimensions
2019
We analytically investigate the perturbative effects of a quantum conformally coupled scalar field on rotating (2+1)-dimensional black holes and naked singularities. In both cases we obtain the quantum-backreacted metric analytically. In the black hole case, we explore the quantum corrections on different regions of relevance for a rotating black hole geometry. We find that the quantum effects lead to a growth of both the event horizon and the ergosphere, as well as to a reduction of the angular velocity compared to their corresponding unperturbed values. Quantum corrections also give rise to the formation of a curvature singularity at the Cauchy horizon and show no evidence of the appearan…
The UWB-OFDM Channel Analysis in Frequency
2009
In this paper, the ultra-wideband channel with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (UWB-OFDM) is analyzed in the frequency domain. For UWB-OFDM channels with log-normal fading in the time domain, we show that the amplitude of each subcarrier can be approximated by a Nakagami-m random variable, where the fading parameter, the mean power and the correlation coefficient are expressed in terms of the following parameters: time arrival of the clusters, inter-arrival time of rays inside clusters, and power decay constants of rays and clusters.
Neutrino physics overview
2006
Seesaw-type and low-scale models of neutrino masses are reviewed, along with the corresponding structure of the lepton mixing matrix. The status of neutrino oscillation parameters as of June 2006 is given, including recent fluxes, as well as latest SNO, K2K and MINOS results. Some prospects for the next generation of experiments are given. This writeup updates the material presented in my lectures at the Corfu Summer Institute on Elementary Particle Physics in September 2005.
Energy-exchange collision of the Manakov vector solitons under strong environmental perturbations
2007
International audience; We use a collective-variable approach to study the dynamical behavior of vector solitons in the Manakov system under strong environmental perturbations induced by the fiber losses and a modified cross-phase modulation parameter. We identify and discuss the salient features associated with energy-exchange collisions of transmissional and reflectional types. Particularly, we find that such perturbations can induce important effects not only on fundamental soliton parameters such as the peak power, central position, width, chirp, and frequency, but also on the nature of the collision. Interestingly, we find that the perturbations lead to only a slight alteration of coll…
Predicting neutrino oscillations with “bi-large” lepton mixing matrices
2019
We propose two schemes for the lepton mixing matrix $U = U_l^\dagger U_\nu$, where $U = U_l$ refers to the charged sector, and $U_\nu$ denotes the neutrino diagonalization matrix. We assume $U_\nu$ to be CP conserving and its three angles to be connected with the Cabibbo angle in a simple manner. CP violation arises solely from the $U_l$, assumed to have the CKM form, $U_l\simeq V_{\rm CKM}$, suggested by unification. Oscillation parameters depend on a single parameter, leading to narrow ranges for the "solar" and "accelerator" angles $\theta_{12}$ and $\theta_{23}$, as well as for the CP phase, predicted as $\delta_{\rm CP}\sim 1.3\pi$.
Bilarge neutrino mixing and the Cabibbo angle
2012
Recent measurements of the neutrino mixing angles cast doubt on the validity of the so-far popular tri-bimaximal mixing ansatz. We propose a parametrization for the neutrino mixing matrix where the reactor angle seeds the large solar and atmospheric mixing angles, equal to each other in first approximation. We suggest such bi-large mixing pattern as a model building standard, realized when the leading order value of the reactor angle equals the Cabibbo angle.
