"Manne takaraivossa" : ennakkoluulot ja syrjintä suomalaisten romaniyrittäjien kokemana : fenomenografinen tutkimus
2009
The purpose of my research is to describe and to understand the prejudices and discrimination faced by the Finnish Roma entrepreneurs in the business activities. The research aims to answer the main question: What are the positive and negative perceptions the Finnish Roma have received from the business activities as entrepreneurs? The starting point of my phenomenographical research is social marginality, because, according to the general understanding, the population of the Roma is still in the margins of the Finnish society. In my research, I am considering the marginality from the point of view of Finnish Roma entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs interviewed had experienced prejudice and disc…
Fluid–structure interaction of downwind sails: a new computational method
2018
The spreading of high computational resources at very low costs led, over the years, to develop new numerical approaches to simulate the fluid surrounding a sail and to investigate the fluidâstructure interaction. Most methods have concentrated on upwind sails, due to the difficulty of implementing downwind sailing configurations that present, usually, the problem of massive flow separation and large displacements of the sail under wind load. For these reasons, the problem of simulating the fluidâstructure interaction (FSI) on downwind sails is still subject of intensive investigation. In this paper, a new weak coupled procedure between a RANS solver and a FEM one has been implemented t…
Linear Response Theory with finite-range interactions
2021
International audience; This review focuses on the calculation of infinite nuclear matter response functions using phenomenological finite-range interactions, equipped or not with tensor terms. These include Gogny and Nakada families, which are commonly used in the literature. Because of the finite-range, the main technical difficulty stems from the exchange terms of the particle–hole interaction. We first present results based on the so-called Landau and Landau-like approximations of the particle–hole interaction. Then, we review two methods which in principle provide numerically exact response functions. The first one is based on a multipolar expansion of both the particle–hole interactio…
On the error sequences of M-ary FSK modulation schemes over Nakagami-m fading channels
2012
In this paper, we have studied some important statistical properties of error sequences of M-ary orthogonal frequency-shift keying (FSK) modulation schemes over Nakagami-m fading channels. We have derived the joint probability density function (PDF) of error sequences of arbitrary length. From the joint PDF, we have found an analytical solution for the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the error sequences. The correctness of the analytical expression for the ACF of error sequences has been confirmed by simulations, where the simulation results are obtained by using the sum-of-sinusoids principle. The derived joint PDF of error sequences is useful for the development of first-order and highe…
GPU-laskennan optimointi
2013
Näytönohjaimet, grafiikkasuorittimet, tarjoavat rinnakkaisen laskennan alustan, jossa voidaan suorittaa ohjelmakoodia satojen ydinten toimesta. Tämä alusta mahdollistaa matemaattisesti työläiden ongelmien ratkaisemisen tehokkaasti. Grafiikkasuorittimen rinnakkainen suoritusympäristö kuitenkin eroaa suuresti tietokoneen suorittimen peräkkäisestä suoritusympäristöstä. Ongelmien ratkaisemiseksi tehokkaasti rinnakkaisympäristössä on noudettava ohjelmointimenetelmiä, jotka soveltuvat erityisesti rinnakkaisympäristöön. Tässä työssä tarkastellaan rinnakkaisen laskennan perusteita, miten erilaiset ohjelmointimenetelmät vaikuttavat ohjelman suoriutumiseen grafiikkasuorittimella sekä miten voidaan sa…
A Chemosensor Bearing Sulfonyl Azide Moieties for Selective Chromo-Fluorogenic Hydrogen Sulfide Recognition in Aqueous Media and in Living Cells
2014
A simple chemodosimeter based on a sulfonyl azide dye (1-Az), which displayed a highly selective response toward hydrogen sulfide anion in mixed aqueous media, was synthesised and characterised. Addition of hydrogen sulfide to acetonitrile/HEPES 1:1 solutions of 1-Az induced a clear colour change from red-orange to yellow, which was easily detected by the naked eye, and by an enhancement in the emission intensity. Other common anions, thiol-containing biomolecules and oxidants did not induce any noticeable colour or fluorescence modulation in the probe. The chemodosimeter also showed a good sensitivity, with limits of detection of 11.91 and 0.63 μM by using UV/Vis or fluorescence measuremen…

Exome sequencing in a child with neurodevelopmental disorder and epilepsy: Variant analysis of the AHNAK2 gene
2022
Background The AHNAK2 gene encodes a large nucleoprotein expressed in several tissues, including brain, squamous epithelia, smooth muscle, and neuropil. Its role in calcium signaling has been suggested and to date, clear evidence about its involvement in the pathogenesis of clinical disorders is still lacking. Methods Here, we report a female 24-year-old patient diagnosed with a cardio-facio-cutaneous-like phenotype (CFC-like), characterized by epilepsy, psychomotor development delay, atopic dermatitis, congenital heart disease, hypotonia, and facial dysmorphism, who is compound heterozygote for two missense mutations in the AHNAK2 gene detected by exome sequencing. Results This patient had…
Semiclassical zero-temperature corrections to Schwarzschild spacetime and holography
2005
Motivated by the quest for black holes in AdS braneworlds, and in particular by the holographic conjecture relating 5D classical bulk solutions with 4D quantum corrected ones, we numerically solve the semiclassical Einstein equations (backreaction equations) with matter fields in the (zero temperature) Boulware vacuum state. In the absence of an exact analytical expression for in four dimensions we work within the s-wave approximation. Our results show that the quantum corrected solution is very similar to Schwarzschild till very close to the horizon, but then a bouncing surface for the radial function appears which prevents the formation of an event horizon. We also analyze the behavior of…
Quantum gravity effects near the null black hole singularity
1998
The structure of the Cauchy Horizon singularity of a black hole formed in a generic collapse is studied by means of a renormalization group equation for quantum gravity. It is shown that during the early evolution of the Cauchy Horizon the increase of the mass function is damped when quantum fluctuations of the metric are taken into account.
