From tungsten hexacarbonyl adsorption on TiO2(1 1 0) surface to supported tungsten oxide phases.

2008

Abstract Synchrotron-based photoemission spectroscopies were used to study the adsorption of tungsten hexacarbonyl on (1 1 0) TiO 2 surfaces: experiments using W4f and Ti2p intensities variations show that, at 140 K, the hexacarbonyl growth proceeds via a layer-by-layer mode. Moreover, it was evidenced using both core levels and valence band experiments that, after back to room temperature, W(CO) 6 desorbs without significant decomposition. However, low energy (500 eV) ion (Ar + ) irradiation can allow partial decomposition of tungsten hexacarbonyl molecules leading to sub-carbonyl tungsten molecules. The bonding of sub-carbonyl species to the TiO 2 surface was then stronger than the one of…

High-resolution electron-beam patternable nanocomposite containing metal nanoparticles for plasmonics

2008

Polymer nanocomposites containing noble metal nanoparticles are promising materials for plasmonic applications. In this paper, we report on a high-resolution negative-tone nanocomposite resist based on poly(vinyl alcohol) where silver nanoparticles and nanopatterns are simultaneously generated by electron-beam lithography. Our results indicate nanostructures with a relatively high concentration of nanoparticles and, consequently, an electromagnetic coupling among the nanoparticles. Therefore, the patternable nanocomposite described in this work may be a suitable material for future plasmonic circuitry.

Quantum wire with periodic serial structure

1991

Electron wave motion in a quantum wire with periodic structure is treated by direct solution of the Schr\"odinger equation as a mode-matching problem. Our method is particularly useful for a wire consisting of several distinct units, where the total transfer matrix for wave propagation is just the product of those for its basic units. It is generally applicable to any linearly connected serial device, and it can be implemented on a small computer. The one-dimensional mesoscopic crystal recently considered by Ulloa, Casta\~no, and Kirczenow [Phys. Rev. B 41, 12 350 (1990)] is discussed with our method, and is shown to be a strictly one-dimensional problem. Electron motion in the multiple-stu…

Formation of nanostructures in Eu3+ doped glass-ceramics: an XAS study.

2012

We describe the results of x-ray absorption experiments carried out to deduce structural and chemical information in Eu(3+) doped, transparent, oxyfluoride glass and nanostructured glass-ceramic samples. The spectra were measured at the Pb and Eu-L(III) edges. The Eu environment in the glass samples is observed to be similar to that of EuF(3). Complementary x-ray diffraction experiments show that thermal annealing creates β-PbF(2) type nanocrystals. X-ray absorption indicates that Eu ions act as seeds in the nanocrystal formation. There is evidence of interstitial fluorine atoms around Eu ions as well as Eu dimers. X-ray absorption at the Pb-L(III) edge shows that after the thermal treatmen…

Optical Properties of Self-Assembled GaxIn1-xAs/InP Quantum Wires

2002

Temperature dependent photoluminescence studies have been carried out on several samples containing self-assembled Ga x In 1-x As/InP quantum wires. A red-shift of the emission wavelength is observed when increasing the Ga content in the alloy, but the overall optical quality decreases. In the case of x = 0.15, the photoluminescence is not sensible to temperature and the emission band is conserved until room temperature is reached, which could be explained if the nanostructures are considered to be almost amorphous.

Self-Cleaning Bending Sensors Based on Semitransparent ZnO Nanostructured Films

2023

The design of multifunctional nanostructured materials is the key to the development of smart wearable devices. For instance, nanostructures endowed with both piezoelectric and photocatalytic activities could well be the workhorse for solar-light-driven self-cleaning wearable sensors. In this work, a simple strategy for the assembly of a flexible, semitransparent piezophotocatalytic system is demonstrated by leveraging rational wet chemistry synthesis of ZnO-based nanosheets/nanoflowers (NSs/NFs) under basic pH conditions onto flexible ITO/PET supports. A KMnO4 pretreatment before the ZnO synthesis (seeded ZnO) allows for the control of the density, size, and orientation of the NSs/NFs syst…

Study of TiO2 nanostructures grown in a MOCVD reactor in presence of metallic catalysts. Valorization of these TiO2 nanostructures

2017

Within the Nanoform Theme, Ax Nanosciences, ICB, we realize the growth of 1D, 2D and 3D hybrid nanostructures based on TiO2 by MOCVD. Our work deals with the theoretical aspect of the formation of these nanostructures (growth and kinetic models, structure and texture) and the study of photoelectric, optical and physicochemical properties as well as the development of applications of these structures in physics (random laser), photocatalysis, energy (solar cells). Under certain perfectly controlled conditions, we obtain original TiO2 structures not yet described in the literature: membranes, rods , canals, crucibles, COHN (COaxiales Heterostructures Nanowires). Our previous work made it poss…

Simulations on the mechanism of CNT bundle growth upon smooth and nanostructured Ni as well as θ-Al2O3 catalysts

2011

Abstract In the current study, we have performed ab initio DFT calculations on the gradually growing 2D periodic models of capped single-wall carbon nanotubes (SW CNTs) upon their perpendicular junctions with the Ni(111) substrate, in order to understand the peculiarities of the initial stage of their growth on either smooth or nanostructured catalytic particles. Appearance of the adsorbed carbon atoms upon the substrate follows from the dissociation of CVD hydrocarbon molecules, e.g., CH4: (CH4)ads → (CH)ads+3Hads and (CH)ads → Cads+Hads. (Since the effective growth of CNTs upon Ni nanoparticles occur inside the nanopores of amorphous alumina, we have also simulated analogous surface react…
