Physical inactivity increases oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and atherosclerosis.
2005
Objective— Sedentary lifestyle is associated with increased cardiovascular events. The underlying molecular mechanisms are incompletely understood. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. An important source of vascular ROS is the NADPH oxidase. Methods and Results— C57BL6 mice were subjected to regular housing (physical inactivity) or voluntary training on running wheels (6 weeks). Inactivity increased vascular lipid peroxidation to 148±9% and upregulated superoxide release to 176±17% (L-012 chemiluminescence) and 188±29% (cytochrome C reduction assay), respectively. ROS production was predominantly increased in the endothelium and the medi…
Kanbanin periaatteet ja käyttö : tapaustutkimus rahoitusalan yrityksessä
2014
Biological and Mechanical Characterization of the Random Positioning Machine (RPM) for Microgravity Simulations
2021
The rapid improvement of space technologies is leading to the continuous increase of space missions that will soon bring humans back to the Moon and, in the coming future, toward longer interplanetary missions such as the one to Mars. The idea of living in space is charming and fascinating; however, the space environment is a harsh place to host human life and exposes the crew to many physical challenges. The absence of gravity experienced in space affects many aspects of human biology and can be reproduced in vitro with the help of microgravity simulators. Simulated microgravity (s-μg) is applied in many fields of research, ranging from cell biology to physics, including cancer biology. In…
Enterobacter cloacae administration induces hepatic damage and subcutaneous fat accumulation in high-fat diet fed mice.
2018
Accumulating evidence indicates that gut microbiota plays a significant role in obesity, insulin resistance and associated liver disorders. Family Enterobacteriaceae and especially Enterobacter cloacae strain B29 have been previously linked to obesity and hepatic damage. The underlying mechanisms, however, remain unclear. Therefore, we comprehensively examined the effects of E. cloacae subsp. cloacae (ATCC® 13047™) administration on host metabolism of mice fed with high-fat diet (HFD). C57BL/6N mice were randomly divided into HFD control, chow control, and E. cloacae treatment groups. The E. cloacae treatment group received live bacterial cells in PBS intragastrically twice a week, every ot…
Būtiskie darba vides riska faktori kokskaidu granulu ražošanas nozarē
2015
„Būtiskie darba vides riska faktori kokskaidu granulu ražošanas nozarē”. Darba autors: Edijs Putniņš. Darba zinātniskā vadītāja: LU asociētā profesore, Dr.med. Ženija Roja. Darbs izklāstīts uz 74 lpp., ietver 19 attēlus, 20 tabulas, 3 pielikumus, 23 literatūras avotus. Pētījums sastāv no trim daļām. Pirmajā daļā apkopota un analizēta literatūra par uzņēmuma ražošanas procesiem, granulu ražošanas tirgus apstākļiem, granulu ražošanas nozari Latvijā, būtiskiem darba vides riska faktoriem nozarē un tos ietekmējošiem parametriem. Otrajā daļā aprakstītas izmantotās risku novērtēšanas metodes: Somijas 5 baļļu matrica un modificētās metodes, Austrijas metode ķīmisko risku novērtēšanai, Slodzes galv…
Structured reporting of rectal cancer staging and restaging: A consensus proposal
2021
Background: Structured reporting (SR) in oncologic imaging is becoming necessary and has recently been recognized by major scientific societies. The aim of this study was to build MRI-based structured reports for rectal cancer (RC) staging and restaging in order to provide clinicians all critical tumor information. Materials and Methods: A panel of radiologist experts in abdominal imaging, called the members of the Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology, was established. The modified Delphi process was used to build the SR and to assess the level of agreement in all sections. The Cronbach’s alpha (Cα) correlation coefficient was used to assess the internal consistency of ea…
Graphic Transcriptions : Le Corbusier and the Bologna enigma
2019
The “architectures in the drawer” turn out as real thermometers of the culture of their time. The digital model, continuously swing- ing in motions of History, Representation and Design, is the catalyst of the representation, the starting point for the construction of new images of possible architectures. The drawing is a knowledge process hat intervenes both on the field of project making and processing, and on that of interpretation and critical analysis of the work. The redrawing of Église pour Bologne wants to reconstruct the path that those ‘eyes’ had seen to fornent knowledge of an architecture of which remain few graphics clues.
Latvijas Nacionālo Bruņoto spēku 2015. gada rekrutēšanas kampaņu simboliskā vēstījuma uztvere
2016
Lake size and fish diversity determine resource use and trophic position of a top predator in high-latitude lakes
2015
Prey preference of top predators and energy flow across habitat boundaries are of fundamental importance for structure and function of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, as they may have strong effects on production, species diversity, and food-web stability. In lakes, littoral and pelagic food-web compartments are typically coupled and controlled by generalist fish top predators. However, the extent and determinants of such coupling remains a topical area of ecological research and is largely unknown in oligotrophic high-latitude lakes. We analyzed food-web structure and resource use by a generalist top predator, the Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus (L.), in 17 oligotrophic subarctic lakes…
