A 5-year-old girl was referred because of recurrent watery diarrhea, abdominal pain, and flatulence. She was the second of 3 children. Her 10-year-old sister was normally developed and healthy. Her younger brother has meningomyelocele and hydrocephalus. At 1 year of age, the patient was admitted to the hospital for recurrent bronchitis, otitis media, food refusal, mild diarrhea, and abdominal distension since weaning. A sweat chloride analysis excluded cystic fibrosis. Experimental and theoretical characterization of chelidonic acid structure

Abstract Chelidonic acid (4-oxo-4H-pyran-2,6-dicarboxylic acid) is present in plants of Papaveraceae family, especially in Chelidonium majus. Due to its anticancer, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, and antioxidant properties, it has been used in medical treatments. In this work, the X-ray structure of methanol solvate of chelidonic acid was determined. Layers of chelidonic acid are held by hydrogen bonds via COOH and C = O fragments and additionally bridged by methanol. The formed H-bond network between two acid units is different from typical –COOH dimers observed, e.g., in crystals of isophtalic acid. Abstract This article builds on a tutorial introduction to universal algebra for language theory (Courcelle, Theoret. Comput. Sci. 163 (1996) 1–54) and extends it in two directions. First, nondeterministic operations are considered, i.e., operations which give a set of results instead of a single one. Most of their properties concerning recognizability and equational definability carry over from the ordinary case with minor modifications. This article deals with linear operators T on a complex Hilbert space ℋ, which are bounded with respect to the seminorm induced by a positive operator A on ℋ. The A-adjoint and A 1/2-adjoint of T are considered to obtain some ergodic conditions for T with respect to A. These operators are also employed to investigate the class of orthogonally mean ergodic operators as well as that of A-power bounded operators. Some classes of orthogonally mean ergodic or A-ergodic operators, which come from the theory of generalized Toeplitz operators are considered. A quasi-Hermitian operator is an operator in a Hilbert space that is similar to its adjoint in some sense, via a metric operator, i.e., a strictly positive self-adjoint operator. Motivated by the recent developments of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics, we analyze the structure of metric operators, bounded or unbounded, in a Hilbert space. We introduce several generalizations of the notion of similarity between operators and explore to what extent they preserve spectral properties.
