Online Mathematics With Interactive Concept Maps
2008
There has not been a free and easy-to-use utility to handle both authoring and presentation of large graphs online, especially with mathematical content. On one hand, concept map editors are ideal for authoring graphs, but publishing capabilities may be limited. On the other hand, numerous browsing and layout tools exist for publishing content generated elsewhere. We present a transformation tool Xcm2kg that tries to solve the problem by integrating authoring with IHMC CmapTools to publishing based on TouchGraph. GXL is used as an intermediate format to facilitate interoperability with other graph-based applications. The tool is demonstrated with concept maps drawn on an undergraduate mathe…
Revista de educación
2001
Fallacies about p-Value Shared by Professors and University Students
2017
Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Mary Wollstonecraft on the imagination
2017
The article compares Rousseau’s and Wollstonecraft’s views on the imagination. It is argued that though Wollstonecraft was evidently influenced by Rousseau, there are significant differences between their views. These differences are grounded in their different views on the faculty of reason and its relation to the passions. Whereas Rousseau characterizes reason as a derivative faculty, grounded in the more primary faculty of perfectibility, Wollstonecraft perceives reason as the faculty defining human nature. It is argued that contrary to what is often assumed, Wollstonecraft’s conception of the imagination is not primarily characterized by its Romantic features, but rather by the close af…
Intimate partner violence against women and victim-blaming attitudes among Europeans.
2014
In summary: Academics and policy-makers face many challenges in their efforts to reduce intimate partner violence against women. Investing in public education and awareness initiatives is critically important, as is ensuring that these initiatives are well informed, appropriately targeted and properly designed. Finally, constant monitoring will be needed to assess the effectiveness of efforts to change public attitudes that further victimize the women who are victims of intimate partner violence. Assessment conceptions of Finnish pre-service teachers
2022
The aim of this quantitative survey study (N = 287) was to investigate the assessment conceptions of three different pre-service teacher groups (classroom teachers, subject teachers and special needs teachers). Assessment conceptions were best described by the following three main factors: 1) assessment of learning, 2) assessment for teaching and learning and 3) assessment as a harmful action. These main factors were clustered into three assessment conception profiles – assessment-cautious, assessment-positive and assessment-critical. Pre-service special needs teachers showed more assessment-oriented conceptions emphasising both the assessment of learning and assessment for learning than th…

Modeling Vaccine Allocations in the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study in Australia
2020
Timely allocation and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines on a large scale is a highly complex, dynamic, and context-specific task. The focus of this research on optimizing vaccine allocation is on the downstream part of a COVID-19 vaccine supply chain. Previous research on vaccine supply chains and pandemic supply chains has not fully incorporated the multitude of factors and underlying constraints affecting a vaccine supply chain which can be optimized to mitigate the risk of infection. An effective model is needed to conceptualize the process of the downstream vaccine supply chain to ensure efficient coordination and timely distribution of vaccines to the population. This paper develops a …
The need for a behavioural science focus in research on mental health and mental disorders
2013
Psychology as a science offers an enormous diversity of theories, principles, and methodological approaches to understand mental health, abnormal functions and behaviours and mental disorders. A selected overview of the scope, current topics as well as strength and gaps in Psychological Science may help to depict the advances needed to inform future research agendas specifically on mental health and mental disorders. From an integrative psychological perspective, most maladaptive health behaviours and mental disorders can be conceptualized as the result of developmental dysfunctions of psychological functions and processes as well as neurobiological and genetic processes that interact with …
