3D MHD modeling of the expanding remnant of SN 1987A : role of magnetic field and non-thermal radio emission

2018

Aims. We investigate the role played by a pre-supernova (SN) ambient magnetic field on the dynamics of the expanding remnant of SN 1987A and the origin and evolution of the radio emission from the remnant, in particular, during the interaction of the blast wave with the nebula surrounding the SN. Methods. We model the evolution of SN 1987A from the breakout of the shock wave at the stellar surface to the expansion of its remnant through the surrounding nebula by 3D MHD simulations. The model considers the radiative cooling, the deviations from equilibrium of ionization, the deviation from temperature-equilibration between electrons and ions, and a plausible configuration of the pre-SN ambie…

2011

To understand the origin of the Solar system and the origin of Life itself is one of the longest standing goals of human thought. Our Sun and its planets have formed out of an interstellar cloud which collapsed due to gravitational forces, forming a disk shaped so-called protosolar nebula, with the young star in the centre. Such disk shaped and dust grain containing protosolar nebulae have been observed. One of them is surrounding the young star Beta pictoris [1, 2]. Silicates, carbon and metal grains, oxides and sulfides should have been present. One of the important elements with relatively high abundance is iron. It is believed that simple molecules, such as water (H2O), carbon monoxide …

Limit to the radio emission from a putative central compact source in SN1993J

2013

SN1993J in M81 is the best studied young radio-luminous supernova in the Northern Hemisphere. We recently reported results from the analysis of a complete set of VLBI observations of this supernova at 1.7, 2.3, 5.0, and 8.4 GHz, covering a time baseline of more than one decade. Those reported results were focused on the kinematics of the expanding shock, the particulars of its evolving non-thermal emission, the density profile of the circumstellar medium, and the evolving free-free opacity by the supernova ejecta. In the present paper, we complete our analysis by performing a search for any possible signal from a compact source (i.e., a stellar-mass black hole or a young pulsar nebula) at t…

Fluticasone propionate/formoterol: a fixed-combination therapy with flexible dosage.

2014

International guidelines describe asthma control as the main outcome of asthma management. Prevention of symptoms, improved quality of life, and reduction of exacerbations are the main components, consequently decreasing health care costs. However, many of these objectives remain unmet in real life: several surveys show that a large proportion of asthmatic patients are not well controlled despite the efficacy of current available treatment. Several randomized controlled clinical trials indicate that combining inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting β2-agonists, by means of a single inhaler, greatly improves the management of the disease. The results of 9 multicenter phase III clinical studi…

Spectroscopic variability of IRAS22272+5435

2015

A time series of high-resolution spectra was observed in the optical wavelength region for the bright proto-planetary nebula IRAS22272+5435 (HD235858), along with a simultaneous monitoring of its radial velocity and $BVR_C$ magnitudes. The object is known to vary in light, color, and velocity due to pulsation with a period of 132 days. The light and color variations are accompanied by significant changes in spectral features, most of which are identified as lines of carbon-bearing molecules. According to the observations, the $C_2$ Swan system and CN Red system lines are stronger near the light minimum. A photospheric spectrum of the central star was calculated using new self-consistent atm…

Early Onset of Guillain–Barré Syndrome Following Lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery: An Unexpected Clinical Evolution

2021

Letter: Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), is a neurologic complication rarely reported following a spinal surgery procedure.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 GBS is a potentially fatal, immune-mediated disease of the peripheral nerves and nerve roots that is usually triggered by infections. It is the most common cause of acute flaccid paralysis, with an annual global incidence of approximately 1–2 per 100,000 person-years.7 Although the clinical presentation of the disease is heterogeneous, patients typically present with weakness and sensory signs in the legs that progress to the arms and cranial muscles. Disease progression can be rapid in approximately 20% of patients with respiratory failure requiring mech…

ALMA spectral survey of Supernova 1987A – molecular inventory, chemistry, dynamics and explosive nucleosynthesis

2017

We report the first molecular line survey of Supernova 1987A in the millimetre wavelength range. In the ALMA 210--300 and 340--360 GHz spectra, we detected cold (20--170 K) CO, 28SiO, HCO+ and SO, with weaker lines of 29SiO from ejecta. This is the first identification of HCO+ and SO in a young supernova remnant. We find a dip in the J=6--5 and 5--4 SiO line profiles, suggesting that the ejecta morphology is likely elongated. The difference of the CO and SiO line profiles is consistent with hydrodynamic simulations, which show that Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities cause mixing of gas, with heavier elements much more disturbed, making more elongated structure. We obtained isotopologue ratios of…

Biosynthesis of ecdysones in isolated prothoracic glands and oenocytes of Tenebrio molitor in vitro.

1974

Abstract Isolated prothoracic glands from Tenebrio larvae synthesize in vitro α-ecdysone, but not β-ecdysone from 4-14C-cholesterol. Isolated abdominal oenocytes from the larvae synthesize mainly β-ecdysone, but only little α-ecdysone. When prothoracic glands and oenocytes are cultured together, the α-ecdysone derived from the prothoracic glands is oxidized by the oenocytes to β-ecdysone. The newly synthesized hormones are not stored in the cells, but are secreted into the medium if sufficient amounts of non-labelled hormones are present. If no unlabelled hormones are added to the culture medium, the newly formed hormones are converted to a large extent into polar conjugates.
