Objective. To determine the relationship between different physical loading conditions and findings of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods. We selected 117 male former top-level athletes (age range 45–68 years) who had participated in sports activities with distinctly different loading conditions: 28 had been long-distance runners, 31 soccer players, 29 weight lifters, and 29 shooters. Histories of lifetime occupational and athletic knee loading, knee injuries, and knee symptoms were obtained, and subjects were examined clinically and radiographically for knee findings of OA. Direct Imaging of Chiral Domain Walls and Néel‐Type Skyrmionium in Ferrimagnetic Alloys

International audience; The evolution of chiral spin structures is studied in ferrimagnet Ta/Ir/Fe/GdFeCo/Pt multilayers as a function of temperature using scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis (SEMPA). The GdFeCo ferrimagnet exhibits pure right-hand Néel-type domain wall (DW) spin textures over a large temperature range. This indicates the presence of a negative Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that can originate from both the top Fe/Pt and the Co/Pt interfaces. From measurements of the DW width, as well as complementary magnetic characterization, the exchange stiffness as a function of temperature is ascertained. In 1949, Simone de Beauvoir cited the fairly unknown author Poulain de la Barre in an epigraph for The Second Sex (1949). When reading The Second Sex, one soon realizes that there are profound similarities between the two authors’ discussions of women’s situation. Both Poulain and Beauvoir view the subjection of women as a process that includes choice as well as force. Liberation necessarily requires overcoming opinions rooted in custom and prejudice. The article develops a comparison between the arguments of Poulain and Beauvoir in order to illuminate interesting features in the works of both authors. Stability of moving viscoelastic panels interacting with surrounding fluid

We study a model describing the out-of-plane vibrations of an axially moving viscoelastic panel submerged in flowing fluid. The panel is assumed to travel at a constant velocity between two fixed supports, and it is modeled as a flat panel made of viscoelastic Kelvin-Voigt material. The fluid flow is modeled with the help of the added mass coefficients. The resulting dynamic equation is a partial differential equation of fifth order in space. Five boundary conditions are set for the studied problem. The behavior of the panel is analyzed with the help of its eigenvalues (eigenfrequencies). It was found that a mixt. of mol. iodine and 4-iodotoluene difluoride are useful to generate in situ the electrophilic iodine/nucleophilic fluorine (IF) couple that was able to add in a Markovnikov fashion and with prevalent anti-stereoselectivity to various alkenes and alkynes.

Matkaopas lapsuuden historian tutkimukseen toimii oppaana menneisyyden lapsuuden moniääniseen maailmaan, sen aineistoihin, menetelmiin sekä tutkimustraditioihin. Menneisyyden lapsia ja lapsuutta käsittelevää tutkimusta tehdään useilla tieteenaloilla, ja käytetyt käsitteet ja menetelmät vaihtelevat. Teos johdattaa monitieteiseen ja alati kehittyvään tutkimuskenttään sekä sen menetelmällisiin erityispiirteisiin.
