Application of information fusion to unreliable wireless sensor networks

2012

Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 2012 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Thesis is appropriated analyze to performance metric evaluation for decentralized distributed detection sensor network strategy. Performance metric investigated a typical wireless sensor network with respect to IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Distributed detection is considered with present of the fusion node as long as clustering and non-clustering sensor network. The clusters are organized uniform and non-uniform topology sensor networks with tree-based topologies and hierarchical multi-level fusion centers. Fusion centers are acting as head of cluster for decision making based on majority-like …

Automatic construction of test sets: Theoretical approach

2005

We consider the problem of automatic construction of complete test set (CTS) from program text. The completeness criterion adopted is C1, i.e., it is necessary to execute all feasible branches of program at least once on the tests of CTS. A simple programming language is introduced with the property that the values used in conditional statements are not arithmetically deformed. For this language the CTS problem is proved to be algorithmically solvable and CTS construction algorithm is obtained. Some generalizations of this language containing counters, stacks or arrays are considered where the CTS problem remains solvable. In conclusion the applications of the obtained results to CTS constr…

Social Network Analysis and Qualitative Interviews for Assessing Geographic Characteristics of Tourism Business Networks.

2015

This study integrates quantitative social network analysis (SNA) and qualitative interviews for understanding tourism business links in isolated communities through analysing spatial characteristics. Two case studies are used, the Surselva-Gotthard region in the Swiss Alps and Longyearbyen in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, to test the spatial characteristics of physical proximity, isolation, and smallness for understanding tourism business links. In the larger Surselva-Gotthard region, we found a strong relationship between geographic separation of the three communities on compartmentalization of the collaboration network. A small set of businesses played a central role in steering col…

Complex networks : application for texture characterization and classification

2008

This article describes a new method and approch of texture characterization. Using complex network representation of an image, classical and derived (hierarchical) measurements, we presente how to have good performance in texture classification. Image is represented by a complex networks : one pixel as a node. Node degree and clustering coefficient, using with traditionnal and extended hierarchical measurements, are used to characterize ”organisation” of textures.

Angle and Height Estimation Technique for Aerial Vehicles using mmWave FMCW Radar

2021

In this article, we present a novel angle and height estimation technique for aerial vehicles using mmWave frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) Radar. In the proposed method, Radar’s antennas are oriented vertically to measure the elevation angle of arrival of the aerial vehicle from ground station. Height of the aerial vehicle and horizontal distance of the aerial vehicle from Radar station on ground are estimated using the measured radial range and the elevation angle of arrival.

Spectrogram Analysis of Multipath Fading Channels under Variations of the Mobile Speed

2016

When modelling, analysing, and simulating mobile radio channels, it is generally assumed that the speed of the mobile station (MS) is constant. In practice, however, the mobile speed varies with time. Mobile speed variations result in nonwide- sense stationary multipath fading channels, which can be modelled by a sum-of-chirps (SOCh) processes. In this paper, we analyse the local Doppler power spectral density (PSD) of SOCh processes by using the concept of the spectrogram. The spectrogram provides an estimate of the local Doppler PSD and gives insight into how the Doppler PSD changes over time if the MS increases or decreases its speed. A closed-form solution is presented for the spectrogr…

How does serendipity affect diversity in recommender systems? A serendipity-oriented greedy algorithm

2018

Most recommender systems suggest items that are popular among all users and similar to items a user usually consumes. As a result, the user receives recommendations that she/he is already familiar with or would find anyway, leading to low satisfaction. To overcome this problem, a recommender system should suggest novel, relevant and unexpected i.e., serendipitous items. In this paper, we propose a serendipity-oriented, reranking algorithm called a serendipity-oriented greedy (SOG) algorithm, which improves serendipity of recommendations through feature diversification and helps overcome the overspecialization problem. To evaluate our algorithm, we employed the only publicly available datase…

Topology Inference and Signal Representation Using Dictionary Learning

2019

This paper presents a Joint Graph Learning and Signal Representation algorithm, called JGLSR, for simultaneous topology learning and graph signal representation via a learned over-complete dictionary. The proposed algorithm alternates between three main steps: sparse coding, dictionary learning, and graph topology inference. We introduce the “transformed graph” which can be considered as a projected graph in the transform domain spanned by the dictionary atoms. Simulation results via synthetic and real data show that the proposed approach has a higher performance when compared to the well-known algorithms for joint undirected graph topology inference and signal representation, when there is…

SCCF Parameter and Similarity Measure Optimization and Evaluation

2019

Neighborhood-based Collaborative Filtering (CF) is one of the most successful and widely used recommendation approaches; however, it suffers from major flaws especially under sparse environments. Traditional similarity measures used by neighborhood-based CF to find similar users or items are not suitable in sparse datasets. Sparse Subspace Clustering and common liking rate in CF (SCCF), a recently published research, proposed a tunable similarity measure oriented towards sparse datasets; however, its performance can be maximized and requires further analysis and investigation. In this paper, we propose and evaluate the performance of a new tuning mechanism, using the Mean Absolute Error (MA…

Energy efficient optimisation for large‐scale multiple‐antenna system with WPT

2018

In this study, an energy-efficient optimisation scheme for a large-scale multiple-antenna system with wireless power transfer (WPT) is presented. In the considered system, the user is charged by a base station with a large number of antennas via downlink WPT and then utilises the received power to carry out uplink data transmission. Novel antenna selection, time allocation and power allocation schemes are presented to optimise the energy efficiency of the overall system. In addition, the authors also consider channel state information cannot be perfectly obtained when designing the resource allocation schemes. The non-linear fractional programming-based algorithm is utilised to address the …
