Decacyclene as complexation manifold: synthesis, structure and properties of its Fe2 and Fe4 slipped triple-decker complexes.
2006
Reaction of [(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe(II)Cl(tmeda)] (tmeda = N,N,N'N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) with a polyanion solution of decacyclene (1) results in the formation of the triple-deckers [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}2-mu2-(eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (3) and [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}4-mu4-(eta(6):eta(6):eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (4). Metal complexation in 3 and 4 occurs on opposite faces of the pi perimeter in an alternating mode. The decacyclene ring adopts a gently twisted molecular propeller geometry with twofold crystallographic symmetry (C2). Complex 4 crystallizes in the chiral space group C222(1); the investigated crystal only contains decacyclene rings with M chirality. The handedness can be ass…

Hardening in LiF induced by fast Ni ions and recovery of properties under annealing
2005
The recovery of hardness and optical absorbance of LiF crystals irradiated with 640 MeV nickel ions under annealing at 450–810 K is investigated. Recovery of the hardness of irradiated crystals is initiated at temperatures above 530 K, at which a transition from a complex absorption spectrum to a spectrum with only one broad peak at 275 nm is observed. Activation energy of 0.13 eV ± 0.02 eV, which is close to that necessary for migration of H centers, is obtained from the annealing data. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
A comparative study of mechanical resistance of two reciprocating files
2019
Background To evaluate the cyclic fatigue resistance of two different Nickel-Titanium instruments, Reziflow (Komet, Brasseler GmbH & Co., Lemgo, Germany) and WaveOne Gold (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). Material and Methods Two groups of 20 different NiTi endodontic instruments of identical tip size of 0.25 mm were tested; Reziflow and Wave-One Gold primary. Cyclic fatigue testing was performed in a stainless steel simulated root canal manufactured by reproducing the instrument’s size and taper. A simulated root canal with a 90 degrees angle of curvature and 5 mm radius of curvature was constructed for the instruments tested. The centre of the curvature was 5 mm from the tip …
Cyclopentadienyl derivatives of octahedral carbonylcarbide hexaruthenium clusters: synthesis, NMR, IR and X-ray characterization
1996
Abstract The reaction of hexanuclear carbonylcarbide cluster Ru6C(CO)17 (1) with pentamethylcyclopentadiene by reflux in heptane leads to a new chelate cluster Ru6C(μ-η1-η5-CH2C5Me4)(CO)14 (2). The compound 2 contains a CH2 group α-bonded to one of the Ru atoms in the Ru6 cluster and a C5Me4-ligand η5-coordinated by the adjacent Ru atom of the Ru6 cluster. Reflux of 1 in hexane with two molecular equivalents of nickelocene, Ni(C5H5)2 NiCp2, used as a source of cyclopentadiene yields the Ru6C(CO)12Cp2 (3) cluster. The compounds 2 and 3 have been characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy and their crystal structures determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
Cutting efficiency of heat-treated nickel-titanium single-file systems at different incidence angles.
2020
Cutting efficiency of Reciproc R25 (REC) and Reciproc blue R25 (REB) at different inclinations was evaluated. Sixty new files were tested at 90°, 70° and 45° of inclination in relation to the sample (n = 10), using a customised machine. All files were activated in reciprocation against standardised gypsum blocks for 120 s. Cutting efficiency was determined by measuring the block weight loss with an analytical balance and measuring the length of the block surface cut using a digital calliper. Data were statistically analysed (two-way ANOVA, Bonferroni t-test) with the significance level set at P < 0.05. There was no difference for REC among the tested angles. REB had no statistical differenc…
Electrochemical corrosion assessment of RaCe and Mtwo rotary nickle-titanium instruments after clinical use and sterilization
2010
Aim: The aim of the present study was to electrochemically evaluate corrosion resistance of RaCe and Mtwo files after repeated sterilization and preparation procedures. Study Design: A total of 450 rotary files were used. In the working groups, 72 files from each file type were distributed into 4 groups. RaCe and Mtwo files were used to prepare one root canal of the mesial root of extracted human mandibular first molars. The procedure was repeated to prepare 2 to 8 canals. The following irrigation solutions were used: group 1, RaCe files with 2.5% NaOCl; group 2, RaCe files with normal saline; group 3, Mtwo files with 2.5% NaOCl; and group 4, Mtwo files with normal saline in the manner desc…
Shaping ability of nickel-titanium rotary instruments in simulated S-shaped root canals.
2009
Objective The aim of this study was to compare the shaping ability of 4 nickel-titanium rotary techniques and 1 hand technique in simulated S-shaped curved root canals. Study design Seventy-five simulated double-curved resin root canals were divided into 5 groups (n = 15). The canals were compared at 12 different levels and at 3 different times: before preparation and after preparation to master apical 25 and 35. Data were statistically analyzed by performing 2-by-2 comparisons with the Tukey parametric test of variance analysis using a confidence interval of 95%. Results All of the 75 resin blocks presented transportation of the root canals by transforming the apical curvature into a strai…
Load-deflection characteristics of superelastic and thermal nickel-titanium wires
2011
SUMMARY The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of superelastic and thermal nickel–titanium (NiTi) archwires for correct selection of orthodontic wires. Seven different NiTi wires of two different sizes (0.014 and 0.016 inches), commonly used during the alignment phase, were tested. A three-point bending test was carried out to evaluate the load–deflection characteristics. The archwires were subjected to bending at a constant temperature of 37°C and deflections of 2 and 4 mm. Analysis of variance showed that thermal NiTi wires exerted significantly lower working forces than superelastic wires of the same size in all experimental tests (P < 0.05). Wire size had a s…
Synthesis, structural, thermal, and magnetic investigations of Co(II), Ni(II), and Mn(II) pyrophosphate chains
2012
The reaction in water of cobalt(II), nickel(II) or manganese(II) chloride with 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and sodium pyrophosphate (Na 4 P 2 O 7 ) at low pH (∼2) afforded three isostructural pyrophosphate complexes of an unprecedented one-dimensional typology, namely, {[M(phen)(H 2 O)(H 2 P 2 O 7 )]·H 2 O} n with M = Co( 1 ), Ni( 2 ) and Mn( 3 ). The di-hydrogen-pyrophosphate anion featured in these complexes adopts a rare bidentate/monodentate bridging mode leading to chain propagation. This unusual bridging pathway produces a metal–metal intra-chain separation of about 6.6–6.7 A for 1 – 3 , values much larger than the metal–metal distance across the classic bis-bidentate PPi in the parent…
