Determination of cobalt, copper, iron, nickel and zinc in cemented tungsten carbides with cobalt as a binder by FAAS: Matrix effect control by multiv…
1997
A new approach for the determination of cobalt, copper, iron, nickel and zinc in cemented tungsten carbides with cobalt as a binder by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS) is reported. Real samples were dissolved in phosphoric, hydrochloric and nitric acid. PTFE bomb or alternatively small amounts of HF were used for the enhancement of the recovery of the elements investigated. Synthetic samples were used for interference studies. Multiple linear regression was applied for the control of matrix effects and it proved to be very effective in the search for interfering elements. Using simple acid based standards, all investigated elements could be determined sequentially in a compl…
Separation and identification of petroporphyrins extracted from the oil shales of Tarfaya: geochemical study
2002
Abstract Vanadyl and nickel porphyrins were isolated from the oil shales of Tarfaya (Morocco) by extraction followed by column chromatography. The ratios and characteristics of these porphyrin complexes were essentially obtained on the basis of UV–visible and mass spectrometry data. Geochemical information could be drawn from these data. The nature and the contents of the metals coordinated and non-coordinated to porphyrin systems were also determined in this study.
Accumulation of trace metals in sediments in a Mediterranean Lagoon: Usefulness of metal sediment fractionation and elutriate toxicity assessment.
2015
International audience; The authors investigated sediment quality in Bizerte Lagoon (Tunisia) focusing on geochemical characteristics, metal sediment fractionation and elutriate toxicity assessment. Nickel, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr and Cd partitioning in sediments was studied; accumulation and bioavailability were elucidated using enrichment factors, sequential extractions, redox potential, acid volatile sulfide and biotest procedures in toxicity evaluation. Results revealed an accumulation for Pb and Zn, reaching 99 and 460 mg kg−1 respectively. In addition, the acid volatile sulfide values were high in both eastern and western lagoon areas, thus affecting metal availability. Mean enrichment factor …
Nickel(II) inhibits the repair of O 6 -methylguanine in mammalian cells
1999
Nickel compounds are widespread carcinogens, and although only weakly mutagenic, interfere with nucleotide excision repair and with the repair of oxidative DNA base modifications. In the present study we investigated the effect of nickel(II) on the induction and repair of O6-methylguanine and N7-methylguanine after treatment with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU). We applied Chinese hamster ovary cells stably transfected with human O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) cDNA (CHO-AT), and compared the results with the MGMT-deficient parental cell line. As determined by high-performance liquid chromatography/electrochemical detection (HPLC/ECD), there was a slight but mostly not significan…
Investigation of the effect of intensive milling in a planetary ball mill on the thermal decomposition of basic nickel carbonate
2011
The kinetics of thermal decomposition of basic nickel carbonate NiCO3Ni?(OH)2?nH2O and the effect of intensive milling in a planetary ball mill on its parameters, have been investigated. The values of the reaction heat and of the activation energy of thermal decomposition have been determined. Investigations of the thermal decomposition of the products of ball milling of investigated compound revealed a distinct effect of milling on the reaction temperature and heat consumed during the thermal decomposition of investigated compound.
Raman scattering in nanosized nickel oxide NiO
2007
Magnetic ordering in nanosized (100 and 1500 nm) nickel oxide NiO powders, prepared by the plasma synthesis method, was studied using Raman scattering spectroscopy in a wide range of temperatures from 10 to 300 K. It was observed that the intensity of two- magnon band decreases rapidly for smaller crystallites size. This effect is attributed to a decrease of antiferromagnetic spin correlations and leads to the antiferromagnetic-to- paramagnetic phase transition .
Synthesis and characterization of a new layered organic-inorganic hybrid nickel(II) 1,4 : 5,8-naphthalenediimide bis-phosphonate, exhibiting canted a…
2008
A new Ni(II) layered hybrid organic-inorganic compound of formula Ni{sub 2}[(NDI-BP)(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}].2H{sub 2}O has been prepared in very mild conditions from N,N'-bis(2-phosphonoethyl)napthalene-1,4:5,8-tetracarboximide (NDI-BP ligand) and NiCl{sub 2}. The X-ray powder structure characterization of the title compound suggests a pillared layered organic-inorganic hybrid structure. The distance between the organic and inorganic layers has been found to be 17.8 A. The inorganic layers consist of corner sharing [NiO{sub 5}(H{sub 2}O)] octahedra and they are pillared by the diphosphonate groups. DC and AC magnetic measurements as a function of temperature and field indicate the presence of 2…
Networks based on hydrogen-bonds containing phosphorus anions and tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate nickel(II) moieties
2012
Abstract Five structural kinds of nickel hydrogen-bonded networks containing hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate ligands (Tp∗) have been elucidated by X-ray diffraction, [Tp∗Ni(OH2)3][(p-NO2C6H4O)2PO2] (4), [Tp∗Ni(OH2)3][Me2PO2]·Me2P(O)OH (5), [Tp∗Ni(OH2)3][(nBuO)2PO2]·0.5H2O (6), [(Hpz)Tp∗Ni(OH2)2][(Ph)PO2OH] (7) and [Tp∗Ni(OH2)2(Me2PO2)] (8). The most relevant supramolecular feature of complexes 4–8 is all of them form coordination networks based on hydrogen bonds between water molecules and phosphate, phosphonate or phosphinate anions. These hydrogen bonds are formed within the monomer units in addition to connect monomers along the chains. Their behaviors in solution were investigate…
Hydrogen Bonding and Anion Binding in Structures of Tris(pyrazolyl)boratenickel(II) and Phosphate Esters
2008
This paper presents the syntheses, crystal structures and spectroscopic properties of a series of nickel(II) complexes containing hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate and phosphate esters: [Tp*Ni(Hpz*)2(L)][(RO)2PO2] [R = Et, Bu; L = H2O (1), (BuO)2P(O)OH (2)] and [Tp*Ni(Hpz*)(H2O)2][(EtO)2PO2] (5) {Tp* = hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate, Hpz* = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole}. The complexes [Ni(Tp*)2] (3) and [(Tp*Ni)2(μ-pz*)(μ-OH)](4) were also prepared and fully characterized. X-ray crystallographic studies of 1 and 2 reveal that the pyrazole moieties are hydrogen bonded to the guest phosphate ester anion. In complex 5, the phosphate anion is hydrogen-bonded by two O–H groups of the water …
