Low-temperature optical absorption of nickel fluosilicate crystals

1964

Abstract The vibronic absorption spectrum of the Ni++ ion in an electric field of trigonal (nearly cubic) symmetry at temperatures down to 4°K is reported and analysed in terms of ligand field and vibronic theory. The positions, widths, shapes and strengths of the bands are satisfactorily explained, together with their associated fine structures. In particular, the complex structure of the red band is well explained in detail as a consequence of the mutual perturbation of the 1E and 3T4 levels, which strongly modifies the vibronic coupling and results in two fairly narrow bands, each showing resolved vibrational structure, superposed on a broad band. A Trees correction term, αL(L+1), helps …

Dimer complexes of 2,4-toluenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid (2,4-TDTA) with copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), zinc(II) and manganese(II). Stud…

1997

Abstract Potentiometric investigations in aqueous solution at 25°C and ionic strength 0.1 mol dm−3 KCl show that 2 2,4-toluenediamine-N,N,N′N′-tetraacetic acid (2,4-TDTA) forms with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Mn(II) the following complexes (ligand, H4L): monomers [MH2L], [MHL]− and [ML]2−; dimers [M2HL2]3− and [M2L2]4−; with excess of ligand [MH2L2]4−, [MHL2]5− and [ML2]6− (Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II)) and with excess of metal [M2HL]+ (Ni(II), Co(II)and Mn(II) and [M2L] (Cu(II)). The formation constants of the complexes have been determined. The species distribution diagrams indicate that a concentrated solution with a ligand:metal ratio 1:1 at pH 6 is suitable for the synthesis of cr…

Hydrolytically active tetranuclear [NiII2]2 complexes: synthesis, structure, spectroscopy and phosphoester hydrolysis

2015

Three tetranuclear nickel(II) complexes, [Ni4(H2chdp)2(H2O)4]Br2·4CH3OH·3H2O (1), [Ni4(H2chdp)2(H2O)4](PF6)2 (2) and [Ni4(H2chdp)2(H2O)4](ClO4)2·3.2CH3OH·0.8H2O (3) have been synthesized by exploiting the flexibility, chelating ability and bridging potential of a new symmetrical μ-bis(tetradentate) ligand, H5chdp (H5chdp = N,N′-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N′-bis[2-hydroxyethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol). Complexes 1, 2 and 3 have been synthesized by carrying out reaction of the ligand H5chdp with stoichiometric amounts of NiCl2·6H2O/NaBr, NiCl2·6H2O/NH4PF6, and Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O, respectively, in methanol–water in the presence of NaOH at ambient temperature. Characterizations of the complexes ha…

Limiting nuclearity in formation of polynuclear metal complexes through [2 + 3] cycloaddition: synthesis and magnetic properties of tri- and pentanuc…

2014

A tridentate ligand p-chloro-2-{(2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)methyl}phenol (HL) was used to generate an octahedral nickel complex [Ni(L)Cl(H2O)2] 1 which was further converted into a square-planar nickel complex [Ni(L)(N3)] 2. The [2 + 3] cycloaddition reaction between metal coordinated azide 2 and different organonitriles under microwave irradiation afforded tri- and pentanuclear nickel(II) complexes 4a-4c. Reaction with benzonitrile and 3-cyano pyridine furnished the trinuclear species [Ni3L2(5-phenyltetrazolato)4(DMF)2] 4a and [Ni3L2{5-(3-pyridyl)-tetrazolato}4(DMF)2]·2H2O 4b, respectively. The nickel centers were found to be linearly disposed to each other and the complex is formed by a…

Potentiometric and spectroscopic studies of transition-metal ions complexes with a quinolone derivative (cinoxacin). Crystal structures of new Cu(II)…

1997

Abstract The interaction of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and zinc(II) with Cinoxacin (HCx = 1-ethyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo(1,3)dioxolo(4,5-g)cinnoline-3-carboxylic acid), a 4-quinolone derivative, has been studied at metal/ligand ratios of 1:1-1:3 by means of pH-metric, spectrophotometric, and ESR methods. The formation constants have been determined and the stereochemistry for the metal ions in the species present in aqueous solutions (at 37 ± 0.1°C and I = 0.1 mol dm −3 NaCl) is discussed. In all the studied systems, complexes with different stoichiometric ratios, in which cinoxacin acts both as neutral and deprotonated ligand, are formed. The anomalous sequence of the stepwise stabilit…

New Reactivity of 4‐Amino‐3,5‐bis(pyridin‐2‐yl)‐1,2,4‐triazole: Synthesis and Structure of a Mononuclear Species, a Dinuclear Species, and a Novel Te…

2007

Reactions of Ni(O 2 CMe) 2 ·4H 2 O or NiCl 2 ·6H 2 O, 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole (abpt) and NaN 3 or KSCN in different molar ratios heated under reflux or hydrothermal conditions generate a mononuclear species with dimorphous phases, a dinuclear species incorporating an in situ deaminated [bpt-H] - ligand and a tetranuclear rectangle box incorporating an unprecedented μ:η 1 :η 2 :η 1 coordination mode of the deprotonated [abpt-H] - ligand. Structural analysis reveals that a pair of [Ni 2 (μ 1,1 -N 3 )(μ-OAc)] motifs in [Ni 4 (abpt) 2 -(abpt-H)(N3) 5 (Ο 2 CMe) 2 ]·5H 2 O (1) are bridged by two abpt and one [abpt-H] - units into a rectangle box. [Ni 2 (bpt-H) 2 -(SCN) 2 (H 2…

Multielectron oxidation in a ferromagnetically coupled dinickel(ii) triple mesocate.

2015

Triple-stranded dinuclear nickel(ii) complexes of the meso-helicate type have been obtained from the new N,N'-1,3-phenylenebis(pyrazine-2-carboxamidate) ligand; they possess a multielectron redox behaviour featuring up to four stepwise, one-electron oxidation reactions of the two ferromagnetically coupled Ni(II) ions to afford the putative high-valent dinickel(iii) and dinickel(iv) species, as supported by theoretical calculations.

New complexes of nickel and nickel/cobalt with tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid, THF(COOH)4. Crystal structures of Ni[THF(COOH)2(COOH)2](…

1993

Abstract The reaction of NiCl2·6H2O with tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid, THF(COOH)4, partially deprotonated by Na2CO3 (1 : 1 metal/ligand molar ratio), yielded Ni[THF(COOH)2(COO)2](H2O)3 (1). The molecular structure of 1 was determined by X-ray diffraction on the monocrystal. The structure consists of a mononuclear neutral unit with the nickel atom coordinated by a [THF(COOH)2(COO)2]2− ligand, which acts as a tridentate ligand, and three water molecules. Direct interaction of NiCl2·6H2O and CoCl2·6H2O (1 : 1 molar ratio) with THF(COOH)4 previously deprotonated by Na2CO3 (1 : 1 metal/ligand molar ratio) gave, by slow evaporation of the solution obtained, green crystals of the n…

Ligand entrapment in twofold interpenetrating PtS matrixes by metallo-organic frameworks.

2003

Single-crystal X-ray crystallography was used to determine the structures of four metallo-organic frameworks (MOFs). A dendritic tetradentate ligand (tetrakis(isonicotinoxymethyl)methane, TINM) was used with first-row transition-metal elements copper, nickel, and cobalt to synthesize MOFs with a PtS interpenetration, due to both planar and tetrahedral junctions being present in the framework. Two different polymeric complexes, 1 and 2, were obtained from similar starting materials, TINM and Cu(NO(3))(2).3H(2)O, but different solvents. The use of dichloromethane in addition to methanol and water promoted the coordination of nitrate ions to the copper. With only methanol and water used as sol…
