Mammalian intestinal alkaline phosphatase acts as highly active exopolyphosphatase.

Recent results revealed that inorganic polyphosphates (polyP), being energy-rich linear polymers of orthophosphate residues known from bacteria and yeast, also exist in higher eukaryotes. However, the enzymatic basis of their metabolism especially in mammalian cells is still uncertain. Here we demonstrate for the first time that alkaline phosphatase from calf intestine (CIAP) is able to cleave polyP molecules up to a chain length of about 800. The enzyme acts as an exopolyphosphatase degrading polyP in a processive manner. The pH optimum is in the alkaline range. Increased adhesion and activation of polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes to endothelial cells under heavy metal exposure in vitro.

Heavy metals have been implicated in the mechanisms of endothelial damage. Influences of heavy metal ions on diverse cell types have been studied using a variety of in vitro and in vivo methods. Polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes (PMNs) have physiological and pathological functions, including the modulation of adhesion to and destruction of endothelial cells (ECs). PMNs were studied during interaction with human umbilical vein ECs under exposure to zinc, nickel and cobalt using an in vitro model. Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over NiO–CeO2 mixed oxides catalysts

[EN] In this paper we present the synthesis, characterization and catalytic behaviour in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane of NiO-CeO2 mixed oxides. The addition of cerium oxide to NiO strongly modifies its catalytic performance, although the changes in the catalytic behaviour depend on the catalyst composition. The incorporation of low amounts of cerium oxide to NiO multiplies the productivity to ethylene in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane by a factor of ca. 7, which is the result of an increase in both catalytic activity and selectivity to ethylene. A rare example of nickel(ii) chains based on a heteroscorpionate-like ligand with quadruple imidazolyl interactions

The first nickel(ii) complex with the heteroscorpionate-like bridging ligand DIMMAL (2-di1H-2-imidazolylmethylmalonate), [Ni(DIMMAL)(H2O)3]n·3nH2O (1), is a one-dimensional coordination polymer whose structure shows regular Ni(ii) chains with H-bonding inter-chain interactions and a rare example of a Quadruple Imidazolyl Embrace (QIE). The Ni(ii) chain shows a weak antiferromagnetic interaction that can be modelled with a regular S = 1 chain model including a zero field splitting with g = 2.270, J = -1.5 cm(-1) and D = -2.26 cm(-1).

The chemical bonds in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2 studied with multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory

The performance of multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory has been analyzed for the description of the bonding in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2. Large basis sets based on atomic natural orbitals (ANOS) were employed. The effects of enlarging the active space and including the core‐valence correlation contributions have also been analyzed. Spectroscopic constants have been computed for the corresponding ground state. The Ni2 molecule has been found to have a 0+g ground state with a computed dissociation energy of 2.10 eV, exp. 2.09 eV, and a bond distance of 2.23 Å. Ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chain; influence of a random exchange interaction

We report on the magnetic behavior of ‘‘rigid’’ ferrimagnetic chains isolated in bimetallic complexes of the EDTA and ‘‘flexible’’ ones obtained in the amorphous variety. As shown by LAXS, the only noteworthy difference in the amorphous state is the random distribution of bond angles between nearest neighbors within chains. The ‘‘rigid’’ bimetallic chains in CoNi(EDTA)6H2O are described in terms of Heisenberg model with an exchange coupling J=−7.5 K. The behavior of the amorphous variety somewhat differs, following the law X=AT−0.8 typical of REHAC. The crystal and molecular structures of hexaquocobalt(II) diisonicotinate N-oxide and its isostructural nickel(II) homologue

Abstract In this experiment the crystal and molecular structures of hexaaquocobalt(II)diisonicotinate N-oxide were determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffraction dat. The crystals belong to the monoclinic space group P2 1 /c. The cell parameters are a = 7.74(2), b = 9.826(2), c = 11.474(2) A , β = 91.08(2)°, V = 873.2(3) A 3 for the Co-complex, and a = 7.765(2), b = 9.725(6), c = 11.363 A , β = 91.20(3)°, V = 857.9(7) A 3 for the Ni-complex. Both structures were refined to a final R-value of 0.045. The X-ray structure analysis showed that there are metal(II)hexaquo cations and isonicotinate N-oxide anions formulated as Co(H 2 O) 6 2+ 2L − and Ni(H 2− O) 6 2+ 2L − in the structures. The…

Abstract Iron (II), cobalt (II) and nickel (II) complexes of 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine (bpp) with [Cr(C2O4)3]3− have been prepared. They were characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermal gravimetric analyses. All three compounds are isostructural and they are formed by isolated [MII(bpp)2]2+ and [Cr(C2O4)3]3− complexes and free ClO4 −. As expected, only the salt [Fe(bpp)2]2[Cr(C2O4)3]ClO4·5H2O shows a thermal spin transition with transition temperature (T1/2) around 375 K that is correlated to the loss of water molecules.

Reaction of Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O with bis(3-aminopropyl)amine (dpt) and ammonium thiocyanate produces the novel thiocyanato-bridged nickel(II) compound [Ni(μ-NCS)(dpt)(NCS)]2[Ni(μ-NCS)(dpt)(NCS)]4, which has been structurally characterised. The structure determination reveals that there are two different molecules in the crystal lattice; one is dinuclear and other is tetranuclear. Low-temperature magnetic measurements show that there are ferro- as well as antiferromagnetic interactions.
