Epidemiological pattern of tattoo skin disease: a potential general health indicator for cetaceans

The presence of tattoo skin disease (TSD) was examined in 1392 free-ranging and dead odontocetes comprising 17 species from the Americas, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and Greenland. We investigated whether TSD prevalence varied with sex, age and health status. TSD was encountered in cetaceans from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans as well as in those from the North, Mediterranean and Tasman Seas. No clear patterns related to geography and host phylogeny were detected, except that prevalence of TSD in juveniles and, in 2 species (dusky dolphin Lagenorhynchus obscurus and Burmeister’s porpoise Phocoena spinipinnis), in adults was remarkably high in samples from Peru. Sex allocation theory predicts that the proportion of daughters to sons will evolve in response to ecological conditions that determine the costs and benefits of producing each sex. All else being equal, the adult sex ratio (ASR) should also vary with ecological conditions. Many studies of subterranean species reported female-biased ASR, but no systematic study has yet been conducted. The aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of osteopathic treatment in infants with postural asymmetry. A randomized clinical trial of efficacy with blinded videoscoring was performed. Sixty-one infants with postural asymmetry aged 6 to 12 weeks (mean 9wks) were recruited. Thirty-two infants (18 males, 14 females) with a gestational age of at least 36 weeks were found to be eligible and randomly assigned to the intervention groups, 16 receiving osteopathic treatment and 16 sham therapy. Abstract Background Coronoid hyperplasia (CH) is an abnormal bony elongation of a histologically normal coronoid process. Its definitive cause remains unknown. Objectives To analyze the possible implication of congenital hypotonia in the pathogenesis of early coronoid overgrowth. Patients and methods Two infants with congenital hypotonia were evaluated for limited mouth aperture. Bilateral CH was diagnosed. A new method for computing one-loop integrals

We present a new program package for calculating one-loop Feynman integrals, based on a new method avoiding Feynman parametrization and the contraction due to Passarino and Veltman. The package is calculating one-, two- and three-point functions both algebraically and numerically to all tensor cases. This program is written as a package for Maple. An additional Mathematica version is planned later.

International audience; As studios release an increasing number of movie sequels, scholars have begun to examine this strategic choice. Prior studies use standard models of box office performance to evaluate sequels’ performance and have mainly compared the box office results of the original movie with those of its sequel. However, sequels hold a unique position in the motion picture market since they are strongly associated with the original movie.
