On Associative Rings with Locally Nilpotent Adjoint Semigroup

Abstract The set of all elements of an associative ring R, not necessarily with a unit element, forms a semigroup R ad under the circle operation r ∘ s = r + s + rs for all r, s in R. This semigroup is locally nilpotent if every finitely generated subsemigroup of R ad is nilpotent (in sense of A. I. Mal'cev or B. H. Neumann and T. Taylor). The ring R is locally Lie-nilpotent if every finitely generated subring of R is Lie-nilpotent. It is proved that R ad is a locally nilpotent semigroup if and only if R is a locally Lie-nilpotent ring.
REP2: A Web Server to Detect Common Tandem Repeats in Protein Sequences

Ensembles of tandem repeats (TRs) in protein sequences expand rapidly to form domains well suited for interactions with proteins. For this reason, they are relatively frequent. Some TRs have known structures and therefore it is advantageous to predict their presence in a protein sequence. However, since most TRs diverge quickly, their detection by classical sequence comparison algorithms is not very accurate. Previously, we developed a method and a web server that used curated profiles and thresholds for the detection of 11 common TRs. The goal of this article is to present a first list of ethical concerns that may arise from research and personal use of virtual reality (VR) and related technology, and to offer concrete recommendations for minimizing those risks. Many of the recommendations call for focused research initiatives. In the first part of the article, we discuss the relevant evidence from psychology that motivates our concerns. In section 1.1, we cover some of the main results suggesting that one’s environment can influence one’s psychological states, as well as recent work on inducing illusions of embodiment. Šajā laika posmā, kad romiešu karaspēks izmantoja manipulāro takstisko formāciju, notika strauja Romas ekpansija un no mazas pilsētvalsts Itālijas pussalā tā ķluva par Vidusjūras reģiona noteicošo valsti. Ilgstošā karadarbība veicināja romiešu armijas attīstību: armijā ienāca jauns bruņojums, attīstijās ieroču šķiras un notika plašas reformas militārajā organizācijā.

In this paper we propose and analyze a nonlinear subdivision scheme based on the monotononicity-preserving third order Hermite-type interpolatory technique implemented in the PCHIP package in Matlab. We prove the convergence and the stability of the PCHIP nonlinear subdivision process by employing a novel technique based on the study of the generalized Jacobian of the first difference scheme.
