Shilling, Squeezing, Sniping. A further explanation for late bidding in online second-price auctions

Abstract Several studies provide empirical evidence for sniping (i.e., waiting until the last few seconds to bid) in second-price internet auctions, particularly in auctions at eBay . This evidence was regarded as puzzling and an anomaly for an extended period: How could sniping be consistent with rational behaviour in second-price auctions, where theory predicts that bids’ timing plays no role and there is no incentive to bid less than one’s private value. An essential contribution to this puzzling issue has been the insight by Bose and Daripa (2017) that late bidding is itself a response to the shilling. An example of interplay between Physics and Mathematics: Exact resolution of a new class of Riccati Equations

A novel recipe for exactly solving in finite terms a class of special differential Riccati equations is reported. Our procedure is entirely based on a successful resolution strategy quite recently applied to quantum dynamical time-dependent SU(2) problems. The general integral of exemplary differential Riccati equations, not previously considered in the specialized literature, is explicitly determined to illustrate both mathematical usefulness and easiness of applicability of our proposed treatment. The possibility of exploiting the general integral of a given differential Riccati equation to solve an SU(2) quantum dynamical problem, is succinctly pointed out.
La figura di Cassandra sulla scena tragica di V secolo: le testimonianze dell’Agamennone e delle Troiane

In both Aeschylus’ Agamemnon and Euripides’ Trojan Women, Cassandra plays the role of tragic heroine, subjected to Apollo’s manipulation, aware of the past and the present of the house of Atreus and able to predict the future; but on stage the people she speaks with do not seem to understand her predictions and are not persuaded by her words. The aim of the paper is to focus on the main features of the tragic character of Cassandra in Aeschylus and Euripides and to investigate the levels of manipulation and communication.

In this paper a general analysis of the evolution and current State of modem Catalan lexicography is undertaken, which starts with the setting up of a catalogue of lexicographic publications from 1940 onwards. In addition to the quantitative analysis of published dictionaries the paper introduces a typology study in order to sort out the variety and richness of modem Catalan lexicography. In the paper relevant data is presented on the situation of Catalan lexicography with respect to the quantity of existing dictionaries, and also on the factors that have determined their variety. Las proteínas de membrana tienen funciones muy diversas en la célula, desde controlar el tráfico molecular hasta facilitar la transducción de señales. Sin embargo, el estudio de estas proteínas supone todo un reto por sus particulares características fisico-químicas. Su naturaleza hidrofóbica requiere un elevado control durante su síntesis.
