Determination of active ingredients in cough-cold preparations by micellar liquid chromatography.

2000

The chromatographic behaviour of some active ingredients in cough-cold pharmaceutical preparations, the antihistamine chlorpheniramine (or the dextro enantiomer dexchlorpheniramine), and the phenethylamines phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine and pseudoephedrine, has been studied using a C(18) column, micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and pentanol, and with UV detection. All possible combinations of chlorpheniramine/phenethylamine were resolved and determined using a mobile phase of 0.15 M SDS-6% (v/v) pentanol at pH 7, with analysis time below 7 min. Repeatabilities and within laboratory precisions were evaluated at four different drug concentrations in the range 0.5-2…

Land surface temperature derived from airborne hyperspectral scanner thermal infrared data

2006

Abstract The AHS (airborne hyperspectral scanner) instrument has 80 spectral bands covering the visible and near infrared (VNIR), short wave infrared (SWIR), mid-infrared (MIR), and thermal infrared (TIR) spectral range. The instrument is operated by Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aerospacial (INTA) and it has been involved in several field campaigns since 2004. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the feasibility of retrieving land surface temperature from the 10 AHS thermal infrared bands, from 71 to 80, located in the region between 8 and 13 μm. For this purpose, three different methods have been considered: (i) the single-channel method, which uses only one thermal band; (ii) the sp…

Bacteriochlorin-diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) hybrids : New near-infrared fluorophores for biosensing/bioimaging applications

2020

Near-infrared (700-900 nm) absorbing and emitting organic-based fluorophores are valuable tools for bioimaging applications. Indeed, biological component absorption, diffusion and autofluorescence are quite low in this region (known as the first therapeutic window NIR-I), making tissues relatively transparent to these long wavelengths. Bacteriochlorins are porphyrins derivatives in which two double bonds are reduced. These molecules display a strong absorption and emission within NIR-I spectral range. DPPs are structurally simpler fluorophores displaying very interesting properties. They have high fluorescence quantum yields, are highly (photo)chemically and thermally stable. The aim of thi…

Direct determination of polymerised triacylglycerides in deep-frying vegetable oil by near infrared spectroscopy using Partial Least Squares regressi…

2012

Abstract A green method for the determination of polymerised triacylglyceride (PTG) in deep-frying vegetable oils of different botanic origin has been developed employing near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression. Four different types of oil were heated during several hours, with and without the addition of foodstuff. NIR transmission spectra were obtained directly from sample aliquots stored in glass vials, thus avoiding the consumption of solvents and minimising waste generation. Variables employed for building the PLS models were selected applying interval PLS (iPLS) as well as Uninformative Variable Elimination-PLS (UVE-PLS). A global PLS model using sp…

Design and implementation of a portable fNIRS embedded system

2015

We report on the design, development and operation of a portable, low cost, battery-operated, multi-channel, functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy embedded system, hosting up to 64 optical sources and 128 Silicon PhotoMultiplier optical detectors. The system is realized as a scalable architecture, whose elementary leaf consists of a probe board provided with 16 SiPMs, 4 couples of bi-color LED, and a temperature sensor, built on a flexible stand. The hardware structure is very versatile because it is possible to handle both the switching time of the LED and the acquisition of the photodetectors, via an ARM based microcontroller.

Braquiópodos devónicos de la Cordillera Cantábrica (Norte de España). 12) Ferronirhynchia nuevo género de rinconélido (Trigonirhynchiidae) del Emsien…

2021

The taxonomic status of the subfamily Trigonirhynchiinae is discussed based on the morphological features, together with the geographic and the stratigraphic distribution of the type genus  Trigonirhynchia  Cooper. The new genus,  Ferronirhynchia  n. gen., including the type species  F. pulgari  n. sp., is proposed. The new taxon, close to  Trigonirhynchia , occurs in upper Emsian beds of the Moniello Formation, in Asturias,  serotinus/patulus  conodont zones, Faunal Intervals 14 to 16a. The ontogeny and palaeoecology of  F. pulgari  are analyzed. Growth of the new species is bicyclic. Juvenile forms are low and biconvex displaying sharp commissures. Adult forms are high, dorsi-biconvex, ge…

Helicobacter pylori and allergy: Update of research.

2015

Recently a lot of literature has been published about the possible preventive action of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) against allergy. The present review summarizes research data about the association between H. pylori and allergic diseases, as well as discusses possible hypotheses about the preventive action of H. pylori against atopy. There is evidence from observational studies to support a weak inverse association between prevalence of H. pylori infection and allergy. However, confounders like some unidentified socioeconomic factors, antibiotic use and others could bias the association. Although data from cohort studies point to a possible association of H. pylori with some of the all…

Photoluminescence and diffusion properties of O2 molecules in amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles

2013

An experimental study by Raman and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies on the emission and diffusion properties of O2 molecules in amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles of commercial origin with diameters from 14 to 40 nm is reported. Stationary and time resolved PL measurements have been carried out to characterize the Near Infrared (NIR) emission at 1272 nm of O2. Emission features similar to those of bulk silica systems with a sharp PL band and excitation channels in the NIR, at 1070 nm, and in the visible, at 765 and 690 nm are found, with peculiarities arising from embedding O2 in nanostructures. The study of the NIR PL lifetime as a function of temperature down to 10 K enabled to reveal the …
