Global vegetation monitoring through multitemporal analysis of pathfinder AVHRR land database
2005
We have applied a Land Surface Temperature algorithm to the whole Pathfinder AVHRR Land (PAL) database, aiming at studying the evolution of the vegetation at a global scale. The Land Surface Temperature parameter, along with NDVI, will allow retrieving vegetation changes between July 1981 and September 2001. We have also built a classification which takes into account both vegetation variations and thermal patterns, from NDVI and Air Temperature at 2 meters height data. This classification allows differentiating areas which present close vegetation changes throughout the year, but totally different climates, as for example in mountainous and semiarid regions. The main quality of this classi…
Expression of C1q, a subcomponent of the rat complement system, is dramatically enhanced in brains of rats with either Borna disease or experimental …
1995
In situ hybridization, RT-PCR and Northern blot analysis as well immunohistochemistry were used to examine the expression of C1q, a subcomponent of the rat complement system, in brains of rats infected with Borna disease virus (BDV) and rats afflicted with experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) induced by the adoptive transfer of myelin basic protein specific T cells. C1q mRNA, which was not detected in normal brain, became clearly detectable using RT-PCR analysis by d14 post infection (p.i.) with BDV. Maximal levels of C1q mRNA were reached 21 days p.i. when inflammatory reactions in the brain were also at a peak. Similarly, C1q mRNA was elevated when the clinical symptoms of EAE be…
Expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1, CD54) in colonic epithelial cells.
1993
The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) was examined in 16 surgically removed colonic tumours and two colonic carcinoma cell lines. Immunohistochemistry showed a varying percentage of ICAM-1 positive colonic carcinoma cells in 9/16 tissue specimens, while normal colonic tissue (apart from a slight reactivity of endothelial cells) was not stained. The presence of the ICAM-1 molecule on the cell surface and the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA were investigated for two colonic carcinoma cell lines. It was possible to enhance the expression of ICAM-1 considerably by incubating the cells in the presence of inflammatory cytokines in HT-29 and CaCo-2 cells. The responsiveness …
C-erbB-2-oncogene expression in breast carcinoma: Analysis by S1 nuclease protection assay and immunohistochemistry in relation to clinical parameters
1992
The c-erbB-2 mRNA was detected by the S1 nuclease protection assay and Northern blotting in breast cancer tissues. In contrast to the Northern blot analysis which has been used in all recent publications concerning c-erbB-2 expression on the level of RNA, the S1-nuclease protection assay has distinct advantages with respect to sensitivity, reproducibility, and handling of radioactive probes. We compared the expression of c-erbB-2 in 120 breast carcinomas which were operated in the years 1989-1990 on the level of the mRNA (S1 nuclease protection assay) and the protein (immunohistochemistry), respectively. In general, results obtained with both methods were in good agreement. Only minor diffe…
Papulo-purpuric dermatitis of childhood: a distinct PLEVA-like eruption associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Clinical, histopathological and immunohis…
2021
Abstract We observed ten children with a papular eruption with purpuric features during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic in Northern Italy (May‐December 2020). Histological examination showed signs of SARS‐CoV‐2‐related dermatosis. Evidence of nucleocapsid viral proteins using SARS‐CoV‐2 (2019‐nCoV) nucleocapsid antibody revealed cuticular staining of the deep portion of the eccrine glands in all cases.
Reconstruction of palaeovegetation and sedimentation conditions in the area of ancient Lake Burtnieks, northern Latvia
2010
Palaeobotanical investigations were carried out with the aim of reconstructing the development of palaeovegetation and formation of sediments in the northeastern area of ancient Lake Burtnieks. Pollen and plant macroremain studies provide information on vegetation development in the surroundings of the lake, including Stone Age settlements of Braukšas I and Braukšas II. Results of the investigations indicate that the development of vegetation together with sedimentation conditions in the palaeolake have changed since the Younger Dryas until today. Vegetation composition varies in different parts of the ancient Lake Burtnieks area due to past changes in lake water level which reached differe…
Die Bedeutung des Serumeiweissbildes zur Diagnose vonBufo calamita Laur.,Bufo viridis Laur. und deren Bastarden (Amphibia, Anura, Bufonidae)
1973
Electrophoretic investigations of the serum protein patterns of natterjacks (Bufo calamita Laur.) from the Iberian Peninsula and from Western and Central Europe, and of green toads (Bufo viridis Laur.) from Central Europa, Asia Minor and North Africa show that the two species differ disctinctly in the position of their albumin fractions. The identification of problematic specimens can result from the production of mixed serum with specimens of both species. As the albumin fraction of hybrids is doubled according to this method, it is also suitable for demonstrating the existence of such hybrids in natural populations.
Chemosensitizers of the multixenobiotic resistance in amorphous aggregates (marine snow): etiology of mass killing on the benthos in the Northern Adr…
1998
Periodically appearing amorphous aggregates, 'marine snow', are formed in the sea and if settled as mars on the sea bottom cause death of benthic metazoans. Especially those animals are killed which are sessile filter feeders, e.g, sponges, mussels, or Anthozoa. The etiology of the toxic principle(s) is not yet well understood. Gel-like marine snow aggregates occurred in the Northern Adriatic during summer 1997. Samples of these aggregates were collected during the period July to September and the outer as well as the inner zones were analyzed for (i) cell toxicity, and (ii) chemosensitizing activity of the multixenobiotic resistance (MXR)mechanism. Organic extracts were prepared an…
The Mineral Contents of Some Boletaceae Species from Sicily (Southern Italy)
2014
Abstract Data on the accumulation of metals in wild edible and inedible macrofungi of the Boletaceae family are discussed here and compared with data reported in literature from northern Italy and other European countries, as well as from China, Brazil, and Africa. The results show a significant difference in the values detected in Sicilian fungi compared to those reported in the literature.
Der Wärmehaushalt der Atmosphäre
1950
The mean caloric balance of the atmosphere is represented by diagram No. 1, which shows the usual lay-out, but is filled in with new figures according to own calculations based uponS. Fritz's new value of the earth's albedo. Possibilities of exchange between the heat surplus of the earth's surface and the heat deficiency of the atmosphere and between differing spots of the same layer are discussed. Regarding the vertical pattern of heat sources and cold sources, it may be seen that in the humid climates (tropics and temperate zone) the lower troposphere receives considerable amounts of heat and the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere lose heat, while in arid regions (subtropics and the…
