Peer interaction and pioneering organizational form adoption : A tale of the first two for-profit stock exchanges
2021
Building on a historical case study on the first two stock exchanges to adopt the now globally dominant for-profit organizational form, the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 1993 and the Helsinki Stock Exchange in 1995, we argue that interaction among socially proximate peers contributes to pioneering organizational form adoption within an industry, particularly when such forms are introduced by established organizations. Peer interaction can induce a search for technically efficient organizational forms through the sharing of collective experiences, the establishment of collective assumptions, and a joint search for solutions. Together, these factors contribute to the legitimization of novel or…
Structural Correspondence Between Organizational Theories
2021
AbstractOrganizational research constitutes a differentiated, complex and fragmented field with multiple contradicting and incommensurable theories that make fundamentally different claims about the social and organizational reality. In contrast to natural sciences, the progress in this field can’t be attributed to the principle of truthlikeness where theories compete against each other and only best theories survive and prove they are closer to the truth and thus demonstrate scientific knowledge accumulation. We defend the structural realist view on the nature of organizational theories in order to demonstrate that despite the multiplicity of isolated and competing explanations of organiza…
Viestinnän rooli hanketulosten levittämisessä ja valtavirtaistamisessa : innovaatioprosessista ekosysteemiin
2016
Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tavoitteena on saada lisää tietoa viestinnän merkityksestä julkisen sektorin innovaatioiden jalkauttamisesta sekä antaa viestintälähtöistä näkökulmaa tulosten juurruttamiseen. Tutkimus toteutettiin tapaustutkimuksena, jossa tehtiin…
Exploration and exploitation : organization's age and the nature of its innovative behavior
2015
This study examines the relationship of an organization's age and its innovative activity. The innovative activity of an organization is discussed and examined through the concepts of exploration and exploitation, basing on the previous literature on organizational ambidexterity. Three hypotheses on the relationship of aging and the innovative behavior of an organization are formed based on the ambidexterity literature and the theories of the effect of aging on an organization. These hypotheses are tested with logistic regression analyses on a patent data set covering the modern biotechnology industry in Finland between 1973–2008. The results of the analyses show that age has a weak but sig…

A firm’s organizational innovation and organizational learning abilities
2019
Many recent studies are dedicated to the problem of innovation as a mean of improving a firm’s overall performance. Various kinds of innovation in a firm usually are closely interrelated with each other. While the majority of studies focus on technological - product and process - innovation, the investigation of non-technological - marketing and organizational - innovation (ORI), has increasingly attracted the interest of researchers during the last decade. Organizational culture and organizational learning are important drivers of such innovation. For instance, a collaborative culture, trust and open-mindedness encourage new initiatives and ideas, while learning helps not just to improve s…
Organizational innovation for SME'S: a model for Latvia
2020
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can be a significant source of innovation in small economies. SMEs face challenges of limited capacity, personnel and resources for long-term investments. The purpose of this study is to develop a model, explaining OI through such factors as organizational culture (OC) and knowledge management (KM) in SMEs via an empirical study across various industries. Mixing Methods in Organizational Ethics and Organizational Innovativeness Research : Three Approaches to Mixed Methods Analysis
2015
This chapter discusses three categories of mixed methods analysis techniques: variableoriented, case-oriented, and process/experience-oriented. All three categories combine qualitative and quantitative approaches to research methodology. The major differences among the categories are the focus of the study, available analysis techniques and timely aspect of the study. In variable-oriented analysis, the study focus is relationships between the research phenomena. In case-oriented analysis, the research focus is the meanings and experiences produced by the cases. The process/experience-oriented analysis examines a certain research phenomenon, which might be either a case or a variable, in a s…
