Alfavīrusu vektoru transdukcijas efektivitātes paaugstināšana ar magnētiskām nanodaļiņām vēža šūnās
2019

Stepping up to genome scan allows stock differentiation in the worldwide distributed blue shark Prionace glauca
2023
The blue shark Prionace glauca is a top predator with one of the widest geographic distributions of any shark species, yet classified as critically endangered in the Mediterranean Sea, and Near Threatened globally. Previous genetic studies did not reject the null hypothesis of a single global population across the worldwide species range. Blue shark situation was proposed as a possible archetype of the ‘grey zone of population differentiation’, coined to designate cases where population structure may be too recent or too faint to be detected using a limited set of markers. Here, blue shark samples collected throughout its global range were sequenced using a specific ddRAD method (DArTseq; G…
Emerging Roles for hnRNPs in post-transcriptional regulation: what can we learn from flies?
2014
Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are a highly conserved family of RNA-binding proteins able to associate with nascent RNAs in order to support their localization, maturation and translation. Research over this last decade has remarked the importance of gene regulatory processes at post-transcriptional level, highlighting the emerging roles of hnRNPs in several essential biological events. Indeed, hnRNPs are key factors in regulating gene expression, thus, having a number of roles in many biological pathways. Moreover, failure of the activities catalysed by hnRNPs affects various biological processes and may underlie several human diseases including cancer, diabetes and neur…

Violence in close relationships with children raises intriguing questions for our society. The sense making may go on in a fragile balance between possible false accusations and possible neglect of needed concerns. This study explores contexts where such concerns are at stake. From the vantage point of outlining main contributors towards a dialogical understanding of human meaning making, the study explores how this evolves when issues of child sexual abuse, violence, and maltreatment are at stake. The study examines three naturalistic settings: (1) A Norwegian university hospital’s specialty mental health service for children and adolescents, including all cases (N = 20) referred in two ye…
Lasten ja vanhempien osallisuuden kokemuksia lastenpsykiatrisen kriisi-lyhythoitojakson aikana

TIIVISTELMÄ Lasten ja vanhempien osallisuuden kokemuksia lastenpsykiatrisen kriisi-lyhythoidon aikana Hakkarainen Paula JYVÄSKYLÄN YLIOPISTO Liikunta- ja terveystieteiden tiedekunta, terveystieteiden laitos Terveyskasvatus Pro gradu- tutkielma, 70 sivua, 5 liitesivua Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia lastenpsykiatrisessa kriisi-lyhythoidossa olevien lasten ja vanhempien kokemuksia osallisuudesta hoitoprosessin aikana. Tutkimuskysymykset olivat seuraavat: miten vanhemmat kokevat osallisuutensa kriisi-lyhythoitoprosessin aikana? millaisia osallisuuden tekijöitä tulee esille lasten kriisi-lyhythoitoprosessia koskevassa haastattelussa? Tutkimukseen osallistui kaksi vanhempaa ja kaksi lasta v…
SNPs detection by eBWT positional clustering
2019
Sequencing technologies keep on turning cheaper and faster, thus putting a growing pressure for data structures designed to efficiently store raw data, and possibly perform analysis therein. In this view, there is a growing interest in alignment-free and reference-free variants calling methods that only make use of (suitably indexed) raw reads data. We develop the positional clustering theory that (i) describes how the extended Burrows–Wheeler Transform (eBWT) of a collection of reads tends to cluster together bases that cover the same genome position (ii) predicts the size of such clusters, and (iii) exhibits an elegant and precise LCP array based procedure to locate such clusters in the e…

Genome-wide mapping of signatures of selection using a high-density array identified candidate genes for growth traits and local adaptation in chicke…
2023
Abstract Background Availability of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping arrays and progress in statistical analyses have allowed the identification of genomic regions and genes under selection in chicken. In this study, SNP data from the 600 K Affymetrix chicken array were used to detect signatures of selection in 23 local Italian chicken populations. The populations were categorized into four groups for comparative analysis based on live weight (heavy vs light) and geographical area (Northern vs Southern Italy). Putative signatures of selection were investigated by combining three extended haplotype homozygosity (EHH) statistical approaches to quantify excess of haplotype homoz…
Data from: Trans-oceanic genomic divergence of Atlantic cod ecotypes is associated with large inversions
2017
Chromosomal rearrangements such as inversions can play a crucial role in maintaining polymorphism underlying complex traits and contribute to the process of speciation. In Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), inversions of several megabases have been identified that dominate genomic differentiation between migratory and non-migratory ecotypes in the Northeast Atlantic. Here, we show that the same genomic regions display elevated divergence and contribute to ecotype divergence in the Northwest Atlantic as well. The occurrence of these inversions on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean reveals a common evolutionary origin, predating the more than 100,000 years old trans-Atlantic separation of Atlantic co…
