Assessment of genetically modified cotton GHB614 × LLCotton25 × MON 15985 for food and feed uses, under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFS…
2018
The three-event stack cotton GHB614 x LLCotton25 x MON 15985 was produced by conventional crossing to combine three single cotton events, GHB614, LLCotton25 and MON 15985. The EFSA GMO Panel previously assessed the three single events and did not identify safety concerns. No new data on the single events that could lead to modification of the original conclusions on their safety were identified. Based on the molecular, agronomic, phenotypic and compositional characteristics, the combination of the single events and of the newly expressed proteins in the three-event stack cotton did not give rise to food and feed safety or nutritional issues. Food and feed derived from cotton GHB614 x LLCott…
The cytoprotective protein MANF promotes neuronal survival independently from its role as a GRP78 cofactor
2021
Mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress-regulated protein exhibiting cytoprotective properties through a poorly understood mechanism in various in vitro and in vivo models of neuronal and non-neuronal damage. Although initially characterized as a secreted neurotrophic factor for midbrain dopamine neurons, MANF has recently gained more interest for its intracellular role in regulating the ER homeostasis, including serving as a cofactor of the chaperone glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78). We aimed for a better understanding of the neuroprotective mechanisms of MANF. Here we show for the first time that MANF promotes the survival of …
Nasal IgE in subjects with allergic and non-allergic rhinitis
2020
Abstract Purpose The prevalence of "ocal allergic rhinitis" within individuals suffering from perennial rhinitis remains uncertain, and patients usually are diagnosed with non-allergic rhinitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of a potential "local allergic rhinitis" in subjects suffering from non-allergic rhinitis in a non-selected group of young students. Methods 131 students (age 25.0 ± 5.1 years) with a possible allergic rhinitis and 25 non-allergic controls without rhinitis symptoms (age 22.0 ± 2.0 years) were recruited by public postings. 97 of 131 students with rhinitis were tested positive (≥3 mm) to prick testing with 17 frequent allergens at visit 1. Twenty-fo…
Use of NPTWi in Fournier's gangrene
2013
Aim: Fournier's gangrene (FG) is defined as a fulminant form of infective necrotizing fascitis of the perineal, genital or perianal regions. Even with appropriate treatment approaches, mortality is high as 4 to 67%. There have been many advances in management of Fournier gangrene including use of vacuum assisted closure and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Methods: a 72 y.o. male with swelling, redness, pain on palpating and necrosis of the penis, scrotum and perineal area including the perianal area, with diabetes mellitus type II, previous non Hodgkin lymphoma recent surgery for perianal fistula, was admitted in our clinic. Because of the extensive involvement of the anus and its sphincter was …
External drivers of EU differentiated cooperation: How change in the nuclear nonproliferation regime affects member states alignment
2023
Since its establishment, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) has strived to increase convergence among EU member states. Yet, convergence remains elusive and scholars have started to explain the emergence of differentiated cooperation resulting from multiple internal EU crises. We posit that the convergence in the EU member states with respect to nuclear weapons has been fundamentally altered by the humanitarian turn to nuclear disarmament. This has led to a crystallization of differentiated subgroups among the member states, whose membership coincides with that of informal groupings active in the broader nuclear nonproliferation regime. Combining quantitative data on resolution s…

EXOSOMES DERIVED FROM METASTATIC COLON CANCER CELLS TRANSFER MALIGNANT PHENOTYPIC TRAITS TO SURROUNDING CELLS: THEIR EMERGING ROLE IN TUMOR HETEROGEN…
2018
Several studies have clearly demonstrated that within a heterogeneous tumor mass the inter-clonal cooperation between metastatic and non-metastatic cells can facilitate the tumor progression. Recent accumulating evidence has highlighted that tumor-derived exosomes (TDEs) play a relevant role as mediator of the inter-clonal collaborative cooperation affecting the properties of both tumor and non-tumor component. In this context, our goal was to understand if exosomes derived from highly metastatic cells may influence the behaviour of less aggressive tumor cells and the properties of endothelium. We found that metastatic SW620 cells transfer through exosomes (SW620Exos) their round/amoeboid p…
