Synthesis of new fluorinated Tebufenpyrad analogs with acaricidal activity through regioselective pyrazole formation.

In previous studies, our group has shown that the use of fluorinated alcohols such as trifluoroethanol (TFE) and hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as solvents dramatically increases the regioselectivity in the pyrazole formation from 1,3-diketone with methylhydrazine. We have now applied this synthetic method to the preparation of new fluorinated pyrazoles, which have then been used as synthetic intermediates in the preparation of fluorinated analogs of Tebufenpyrad, a commercial acaricide. These compounds display a strong acaricidal activity that is either comparable to or better than that of the commercial compound.

In this contribution we report the synthesis of fluorinated and nonfluorinated tebufenpyrad analogues to explore potential druglike properties through the phenotypic screening as part of the Lilly Open Innovation Drug Discovery (OIDD) program.

Utilising mark-recapture data for Bayesian modelling of fish mortality

In this work, the aim was to produce a realistic assessment of yearly mortality of Archipelago Sea pike perch during the period 1997-2012. The utilized data origins from the mark-recapture experiment carried out by the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute (FGFRI). In this mark-recapture experiment, returnings of the marks were based on voluntary tag reporting by the fishermen gaining small monetary rewards. Are habitat loss, predation risk and climate related to the drastic decline in a Siberian flying squirrel population? A 15 year study

To devise effective conservation actions, it is important to know which factors are associated with the population parameters of a declining population. Using mark–recapture methods, we estimated the annual population size, growth rate and survival probability of an ear-tagged flying squirrel population over a 15-year period in a 4,500 ha study area in western Finland. The species is considered vulnerable, but detailed knowledge concerning population sizes or trends is lacking.
