Rejection odds and rejection ratios: A proposal for statistical practice in testing hypotheses

Much of science is (rightly or wrongly) driven by hypothesis testing. Even in situations where the hypothesis testing paradigm is correct, the common practice of basing inferences solely on p-values has been under intense criticism for over 50 years. We propose, as an alternative, the use of the odds of a correct rejection of the null hypothesis to incorrect rejection. Both pre-experimental versions (involving the power and Type I error) and post-experimental versions (depending on the actual data) are considered. Protein-protein interaction network querying by a "focus and zoom" approach

We propose an approach to network querying in protein-protein interaction networks based on bipartite graph weighted matching. An algorithm is presented that first “focuses” the potentially relevant portion of the target graph by performing a global alignment of this one with the query graph, and then “zooms” on the actual matching nodes by considering their topological arrangement, hereby obtaining a (possibly) approximated occurrence of the query graph within the target graph. Uniqueness and reconstruction for the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement

We show global uniqueness in the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement and with data on arbitrary, possibly disjoint subsets of the exterior. The previous work \cite{GhoshSaloUhlmann} considered the case of infinitely many measurements. The method is again based on the strong uniqueness properties for the fractional equation, this time combined with a unique continuation principle from sets of measure zero. We also give a constructive procedure for determining an unknown potential from a single exterior measurement, based on constructive versions of the unique continuation result that involve different regularization schemes.

Abstract We build a metric space which is homeomorphic to a Cantor set but cannot be realized as the attractor of an iterated function system. We give also an example of a Cantor set K in R 3 such that every homeomorphism f of R 3 which preserves K coincides with the identity on K.

AbstractWe consider a definition of p,δ-variation for real functions of several variables which gives information on the differentiability almost everywhere and the absolute integrability of its partial derivatives on a measurable set. This definition of p,δ-variation extends the definition of n-variation of Malý and the definition of p-variation of Bongiorno. We conclude with a result of change of variables based on coarea formula.
A local notion of absolute continuity in IR^n

We consider the notion of p, δ-absolute continuity for functions of several variables introduced in [2] and we investigate the validity of some basic properties that are shared by absolutely continuous functions in the sense of Maly. We introduce the class $δ−BV^p_loc(\Omega,IR^m)$ and we give a characterization of the functions belonging to this class.
