Unconditionally convergent multipliers and Bessel sequences

2016

Abstract We prove that every unconditionally summable sequence in a Hilbert space can be factorized as the product of a square summable scalar sequence and a Bessel sequence. Some consequences on the representation of unconditionally convergent multipliers are obtained, thus providing positive answers to a conjecture by Balazs and Stoeva in some particular cases.

Topological invariants of stable immersions of oriented 3-manifolds in R4

2012

Abstract We show that the Z -module of first order local Vassiliev type invariants of stable immersions of oriented 3-manifolds into R 4 is generated by 3 topological invariants: The number of pairs of quadruple points and the positive and negative linking invariants l + and l − introduced by V. Goryunov (1997) [7] . We obtain the expression for the Euler characteristic of the immersed 3-manifold in terms of these invariants. We also prove that the total number of connected components of the triple points curve is a non-local Vassiliev type invariant.

Dirichlet Forms, Poincaré Inequalities, and the Sobolev Spaces of Korevaar and Schoen

2004

We answer a question of Jost on the validity of Poincare inequalities for metric space-valued functions in a Dirichlet domain. We also investigate the relationship between Dirichlet domains and the Sobolev-type spaces introduced by Korevaar and Schoen.

Functional calculi for convolution operators on a discrete, periodic, solvable group

2009

Suppose T is a bounded self-adjoint operator on the Hilbert space L2(X,μ) and let T=∫SpL2TλdE(λ) be its spectral resolution. Let F be a Borel bounded function on [−a,a], SpL2T⊂[−a,a]. We say that F is a spectral Lp-multiplier for T, if F(T)=∫SpL2TF(λ)dE(λ) is a bounded operator on Lp(X,μ). The paper deals with l1-multipliers, where X=G is a discrete (countable) solvable group with ∀x∈G, x4=1, μ is the counting measure and TΦ:l2(G)∋ξ↦ξ∗Φ∈l2(G), where Φ=Φ∗ is a l1(G) function, suppΦ generates G. The main result of the paper states that there exists a Ψ on G such that all l1-multipliers for TΨ are real analytic at every interior point of Spl2(G)TΨ. We also exhibit self-adjoint Φ′s in l1(G) suc…

Lagrangians, Hamiltonians and Noether’s Theorem

2015

This chapter is intended to remind the basic notions of the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms as well as Noether’s theorem. We shall first start with a discrete system with N degrees of freedom, state and prove Noether’s theorem. Afterwards we shall generalize all the previously introduced notions to continuous systems and prove the generic formulation of Noether’s Theorem. Finally we will reproduce a few well known results in Quantum Field Theory.

Generalized Lebesgue points for Sobolev functions

2017

In this article, we show that a function $f\in M^{s,p}(X),$ $0<s\leq 1,$ $0<p<1,$ where $X$ is a doubling metric measure space, has generalized Lebesgue points outside a set of $\mathcal{H}^h$-Hausdorff measure zero for a suitable gauge function $h.$

Admissible perturbations of alpha-psi-pseudocontractive operators: convergence theorems

2016

In the last decades, the study of convergence of fixed point iterative methods has received an increasing attention, due to their performance as tools for solving numerical problems. As a consequence of this fact, one can access to a wide literature on iterative schemes involving different types of operators; see [2, 4, 5]. We point out that fixed point iterative approximation methods have been largely applied in dealing with stability and convergence problems; see [1, 6]. In particular, we refer to various control and optimization questions arising in pure and applied sciences involving dynamical systems, where the problem in study can be easily arranged as a fixed point problem. Then, we …

L 2-topological invariants of 3-manifolds

1995

We give results on theL2-Betti numbers and Novikov-Shubin invariants of compact manifolds, especially 3-manifolds. We first study the Betti numbers and Novikov-Shubin invariants of a chain complex of Hilbert modules over a finite von Neumann algebra. We establish inequalities among the Novikov-Shubin invariants of the terms in a short exact sequence of chain complexes. Our algebraic results, along with some analytic results on geometric 3-manifolds, are used to compute theL2-Betti numbers of compact 3-manifolds which satisfy a weak form of the geometrization conjecture, and to compute or estimate their Novikov-Shubin invariants.

Classical sequences revisited with permutations avoiding dotted pattern

2011

International audience; Inspired by the definition of the barred pattern-avoiding permutation, we introduce the new concept of dotted pattern for permutations. We investigate permutations classes avoiding dotted patterns of length at most 3, possibly along with other classical patterns. We deduce some enumerating results which allow us to exhibit new families of permutations counted by the classical sequences: 2^n, Catalan, Motzkin, Pell, Fibonacci, Fine, Riordan, Padovan, Eulerian.

Single-valued extension property at the points of the approximate point spectrum

2003

Abstract A localized version of the single-valued extension property is studied at the points which are not limit points of the approximate point spectrum, as well as of the surjectivity spectrum. In particular, we shall characterize the single-valued extension property at a point λ o ∈ C in the case that λoI−T is of Kato type. From this characterizations we shall deduce several results on cluster points of some distinguished parts of the spectrum.
