On dewetting dynamics of solid films of hydrogen isotopes and its influence on tritium [Beta] spectroscopy

The dewetting dynamics of solid films of hydrogen isotopes, quench-condensed on a graphite substrate, was measured at various temperatures below desorption by observing the stray light from the film. A schematic model describing the dewetting process by surface diffusion is presented, which agrees qualitatively with our data. The activation energies of different hydrogen isotopes for surface diffusion were determined. The time constant for dewetting of a quench-condensed T2 film at the working temperature of 1.86 K of the mainz neutrino mass experiment was extrapolated.

The non-equilibrium charge screening effects in diffusion-driven systems with pattern formation.

The effects of non-equilibrium charge screening in mixtures of oppositely charged interacting molecules on surfaces are analyzed in a closed system. The dynamics of charge screening and the strong deviation from the standard Debye-Huckel theory are demonstrated via a new formalism based on computing radial distribution functions suited for analyzing both short-range and long-range spacial ordering effects. At long distances the inhomogeneous molecular distribution is limited by diffusion, whereas at short distances (of the order of several coordination spheres) by a balance of short-range (Lennard-Jones) and long-range (Coulomb) interactions. Dynamics of multilayer adsorption: a Monte Carlo simulation

Abstract The growth of an adsorbed film at an initially empty surface which is exposed at time t = 0 to a gas is studied within the framework of a kinetic lattice gas model by Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes an attractive potential V ( z ) between adsorbed particles at distance z from the surface, V(z) = −A z 3 and a nearest-neighbor attractive interaction between the gas atoms. Several choices of the surface potential depth A , corresponding to different sequence of layering transitions, are considered. Competition between surface reaction and diffusion of gold deposited onto ZrTe3

Abstract Surface reaction and diffusion of gold, deposited onto the (0 0 1) ZrTe 3 van der Waals (vdW) surface, is studied by transmission electron and scanning tunneling microscopy. It is shown that both processes compete at temperatures as low as room temperature. In case of diffusion the deposited gold mostly disappears from the surface and intercalates into the vdW gaps of the substrate. Residual unreacted gold agglomerates are rather mobile and are often displaced by the scanning tip along the [1 0 0] direction of the substrate. Monte Carlo studies of anisotropic surface tension and interfacial roughening in the three-dimensional Ising model.

Extensive Monte Carlo simulations of the simple cubic Ising model with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interactions with a tilted interface are presented for a wide range of lattice size L, temperature T, and tilt angles \ensuremath{\theta}. The anisotropic interfacial tension is studied in detail. From the small-angle data, we obtain the step free energy density ${f}_{S}$(T,L). Finite-size scaling of the step free energy density is discussed and used to probe the predicted temperature dependence of the correlation length near and above the roughening transition. Closed Form Approximation of Swap Exposures

This paper provides closed form lower and upper bounds for the price of European swaption on cross currency basis swap with the presence of dynamic basis spreads. Cross currency basis spreads are treated as integrals of spot spreads, approach familiar from interest rate models. The spot spread is modelled by two-factor mean reverting Gaussian model that is equivalent to two-factor Hull-White model introduced by [Hull and White(1994)]. This model allows closed form approximations and relatively well fitting and simple calibration to the spread term structure.

The square of ultrasound transmission velocity in a material is correlated to the modulus of elasticity, which is an indicator of its mechanical properties. This might make the measurement of ultrasound transmission velocity useful in the noninvasive diagnosis of bone diseases. Bone, however, is not an isotropic material but is architecturally structured. Some Notes About Distribution Frame Multipliers

Inspired by a recent work about distribution frames, the definition of multiplier operator is extended in the rigged Hilbert spaces setting and a study of its main properties is carried on. In particular, conditions for the density of domain and boundedness are given. The case of Riesz distribution bases is examined in order to develop a symbolic calculus.

It is essential to combine genealogical and collective biographical approaches with network analysis if one wants to take full advantage of the evidence provided by (hereditary) personal names in historical and linguistic onomastic research. The naming practices of rural families and clans from the 18th to the 20th century can bring us much fresh information about their enduring attitudes and values, as well as about other mentalities of everyday life. MULTIPLICITIES IN THE MIXED TRACE COCHARACTER SEQUENCE OF TWO 3 × 3 MATRICES

We find explicitly the multiplicities in the (mixed) trace cocharacter sequence of two 3 × 3 matrices over a field of characteristic 0 and show that asymptotically they behave as polynomials of seventh degree. As a consequence we obtain also the multiplicities of certain irreducible characters in the cocharacter sequence of the polynomial identities of 3 × 3 matrices.
