Calculation of the conformational dependence of valence and Rydberg states in n-tetrasilane
1999
Abstract Previous CIS/6-31G ∗∗ and CASSCF/6-31G ∗ calculations of valence excited states of n -tetrasilane accounted qualitatively for the observed conformational dependence of condensed-phase UV absorption spectra. In an attempt to understand this result, we have performed CIS calculations with a larger basis set (MC-311G(2d) on Si, 6-311G on H, and 2s, 2p, and 2d diffuse orbitals at molecular center of mass). The first two excited states are of valence character at all dihedral angles if the molecule is isolated. When it is embedded in a rare gas cluster, the lowest four states are of valence character, and the results are nearly identical with those obtained without diffuse orbitals in t…
Bayesian reanalysis of a quantitative trait locus accounting for multiple environments by scaling in broilers1
2006
A Bayesian method was developed to handle QTL analyses of multiple experimental data of outbred populations with heterogeneity of variance between sexes for all random effects. The method employed a scaled reduced animal model with random polygenic and QTL allelic effects. A parsimonious model specification was applied by choosing assumptions regarding the covariance structure to limit the number of parameters to estimate. Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms were applied to obtain marginal posterior densities. Simulation demonstrated that joint analysis of multiple environments is more powerful than separate single trait analyses of each environment. Measurements on broiler BW obtained from…
GLP-2 receptor expression in excitatory and inhibitory enteric neurons and its role in mouse duodenum contractility
2011
Background Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2), a nutrient-responsive hormone, exerts various actions in the gastrointestinal tract that are mediated by a G-protein coupled receptor called GLP-2R. A little information is available on GLP-2R expression in enteric neurons and nothing on the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC). Methods We investigated presence and distribution of the GLP-2R in the mouse duodenum by immunohistochemistry and the potential motor effects of GLP-2 on the spontaneous and neurally evoked mechanical activity. Key Results The GLP-2R was expressed by the myenteric and submucosal neurons. Labelling was also present in nerve varicosities within the circular muscular layer an…
The Born–Oppenheimer equilibrium bond distance of GeO from millimetre- and submillimetre-wave spectra and quantum-chemical calculations
2014
The millimetre- and submillimetre-wave spectra of the five common isotopologues of (GeO)-O-16 in their electronic and vibrational ground state have been recorded in the spectral region 115-732GHz; for (GeO)-Ge-74-O-16, the rotational spectrum in the v = 1 state has been detected as well. Exploiting the high precision of the measurements, the Born-Oppenheimer breakdown parameter Delta(Ge)(01) could be determined from a Dunham analysis of the spectral data, whereas Delta(O)(01) was obtained from quantum-chemical calculations, because of the lack of high-precision measurements for the (GeO)-O-18 isotopologues. From the rotational equilibrium constant, the Born-Oppenheimer equilibrium distance …

A formula for the Euler characteristic of $\overline{{\cal M}}_{2,n}$
2001
In this paper we compute the generating function for the Euler characteristic of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of the moduli space of smooth n-pointed genus 2 curves. The proof relies on quite elementary methods, such as the enumeration of the graphs involved in a suitable stratification of \(\overline{{\cal M}}_{2,n}\).
Euler Characteristics of Moduli Spaces of Curves
2005
Let ${mathcal M}_g^n$ be the moduli space of n-pointed Riemann surfaces of genus g. Denote by ${\bar {\mathcal M}}_g^n$ the Deligne-Mumford compactification of ${mathcal M}_g^n$. In the present paper, we calculate the orbifold and the ordinary Euler characteristic of ${\bar {\mathcal M}}_g^n$ for any g and n such that n>2-2g.
Synthesis of Monodisperse Spherical Nanocrystals
2016
Nanoparticles, small units of matter with dimensions in the range 1-100 nm, exhibit many advantageous size-dependent magnetic, electrical, chemical and optical prop- erties, which are not observed at the microscale or bulk. These properties are extremely sensitive to particle size, and thus the ability to produce monodisperse particles is critical. Due to its ease of use and flexibility, precipitation of nanoparticles from solution is one of the most widely used synthesis methods. The main disadvantage of this method is that the relationship between particle growth and system conditions is not fully understood. In practice, the optimal reaction conditions are usually ascertained empirically…
A CUDA-based implementation of an improved SPH method on GPU
2021
We present a CUDA-based parallel implementation on GPU architecture of a modified version of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. This modified formulation exploits a strategy based on the Taylor series expansion, which simultaneously improves the approximation of a function and its derivatives with respect to the standard formulation. The improvement in accuracy comes at the cost of an additional computational effort. The computational demand becomes increasingly crucial as problem size increases but can be addressed by employing fast summations in a parallel computational scheme. The experimental analysis showed that our parallel implementation significantly reduces the runti…
Flurnamen als Gedächtnisformationen. Ein Beitrag zur Erforschung des kollektiven Gedächtnisses aus linguistischer Perspektive
2018
The paper focuses on the relations between field names and the collective memory of a local communication community. People using various linguistic means to name specific objects in space impose an interpretation on them as well. This interpretation allows them to identify and individualize the places in social interactions, and it is kept in the collective memory of a particular community for either a longer or a shorter period of time. The linguistic analysis of the motivation for naming provides access to interpretations stored in fields names. In this case study the analysis has been carried out on the basis of the field names in Gryfów Śląski / Greiffenberg in Schlesien.
