Photo-stabilization of biopolymers-based nanocomposites with UV-modified layered silicates
2020
Abstract Eco-friendly in-situ stabilised biopolymer nanocomposites based on polyamide 11 (PA11) and polylactic acid (PLA) were prepared by melt mixing in the presence of a modified organo-montmorillonite clay containing a chemically-bound hindered amine UV-stabilising function, [(UV)OM-MMt]. Characterisation of the newly synthesised organo-modifier containing the reactive hindered amine (HAS) UV-stabilising function [(UV)OM] has confirmed a successful synthesis. The (UV)OM was then introduced into NaMMt through ion exchange reaction to prepare the UV stabiliser-bound organo-modified-MMt, [(UV)OM-MMt]. The in-situ stabilised PA11- and PLA- nanocomposites (PA11-(UV)OM-MMt and PLA-(UV)OM-MMt) …

Oxide or carbide nanoparticles synthesized by laser ablation of a bulk Hf target in liquids and their structural, optical, and dielectric properties
2016
International audience; Laser ablation of a bulk Hf target in deionized (DI) water, ethanol, or toluene was carried out for the production of nanoparticles' colloidal solutions. Due to the interaction of the ablation plasma plume species with the species which are produced by the liquid decomposition at the plume-liquid interface, hafnia (HfO2) nanoparticles are synthesized in DI water, hafnium carbide (HfC) nanoparticles in toluene, and a mixture of these in ethanol. The hafnia nanoparticles are in the monoclinic low temperature phase and in the tetragonal and fcc high temperature phases. Their size distribution follows log-normal function with a median diameter in the range of 4.3–5.3 nm.…
Photochemical stabilization of LLDPE/clay nanocomposites: towards durable nanocomposites
2008
This article reports a study of the chemical modifications of LLDPE/nanoblend nanocomposites exposed to UV light in conditions of artificially accelerated ageing and natural weathering. Analysis by infrared spectroscopy of the chemical modifications produced by photoageing shows that the presence of an organo-clay leads to the decrease of the oxidation induction time of the polymer (LLDPE), which results in lower durability of the nanocomposites. Protection against photooxidation was tested with different kinds of UV stabilizers and with a metal deactivator. It is shown that the metal deactivator is very efficient in stabilizing the nanocomposite since it totally cancels the prodegradant ef…

PHOTO-OXIDATION OF PA6/GRAPHENE OXIDE FILMS
2014
Graphene oxide (GrO) was synthesized with Marcano’s method [1] and added at 0.5 and 1 wt% loading content to a polyamide 6 (PA6). In particular, three different techniques have been used for the preparation of the nanocomposites: (i) melt blending in a batch mixer, (ii) solvent casting in formic acid, (iii) preparation of a masterbatch by solvent casting and further melt processing. The films (80 m) were photo-oxidized in a QU-V chamber up to about 100 hours. The effect of filler content and preparation technique on the photo-stability of the nanocomposites has been followed by monitoring the change of the mechanical and spectroscopic properties undergone upon artificial exposure to UV-B l…
