Two-Dimensional Indium Selenide for Sulphur Vapour Sensing Applications

2020

Surface-to-volume ratio in two-dimensional (2D) materials highlights among their characteristics as an inherent and intrinsic advantage taking into account their strong sensitivity to surface effects. For this reason, we have proposed in this work micromechanically exfoliated 2D nanosheets of InSe as an optical vapour sensor. As a proof of concept, we used 2-mercaptoethanol as the chemical analyte in vapour phase to monitor the change of the InSe photoluminescence (PL) before and after exposure to the analyte. For short vapour exposure times (at low analyte concentration), we found a PL enhancement of InSe nanosheets attributed to the surface localization of Se defects. For long vapour expo…

Unveiling the oxidation behavior of liquid-phase exfoliated antimony nanosheets

2020

Abstract Antimonene, a monolayer of β-antimony, is increasingly attracting considerable attention, more than that of other monoelemental two-dimensional materials, due to its intriguing physical and chemical properties. Under ambient conditions, antimonene exhibits a high thermodynamic stability and good structural integrity. Some theoretical calculations predicted that antimonene would have a high oxidation tendency. However, it remains poorly investigated from the experimental point of view. In this work, we study the oxidation behavior of antimonene nanosheets (ANS) prepared by ultrasonication-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation. Using a set of forefront analytical techniques, a clear effe…

Natural payload delivery of the doxorubicin anticancer drug from boron nitride oxide nanosheets

2019

International audience; We studied the behavior of doxorubicin (DOX; an anticancer drug) molecules loaded on a boron nitride oxide nanosheet (BNO-NS) using the density functional theory (DFT), time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT), and molecular dynamic (MD) simulation methods. We found that DOX molecules in pi-pi or covalent interaction with BNO-NS preserve their optical properties in water. Moreover, the BNO-NS vector allowed stabilizing the DOX molecules on a cellular membrane contrary to isolated DOX that randomly moved in the solvent box without any interaction with the cell membrane. From these results, we conclude that hydrophilic BNO-NS represents a good candidate for DOX…

Snapshots of the Formation of NaTi3O6(OH)·2H2O Nanowires: A Time-Resolved XRD/HRTEM Study

2013

Layered titanates are important intermediates during the formation of TiO2-related nanostructures in hot concentrated base solution. Microwave-assisted hydrothermal techniques allow a time-resolved ex-situ analysis of the reaction in one-minute intervals by rapid heating and quenching followed by separation and structure analysis of the intermediates. By a combination of powder X-ray diffraction, high resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) the individual stages of the reaction could be identified. Sodium titanate nanosheets are formed within several minutes by digesting the crystalline TiO2-P25 precursor in NaOH. These nanosheets with a low sod…

Quantum size confinement in gallium selenide nanosheets: band gap tunability versus stability limitation

2017

Abstract Gallium selenide is one of the most promising candidates to extend the window of band gap values provided by existing two-dimensional semiconductors deep into the visible potentially reaching the ultraviolet. However, the tunability of its band gap by means of quantum confinement effects is still unknown, probably due to poor nanosheet stability. Here, we demonstrate that the optical band gap band of GaSe nanosheets can be tuned by ∼120 meV from bulk to 8 nm thick. The luminescent response of very thin nanosheets (<8 nm) is strongly quenched due to early oxidation. Oxidation favors the emergence of sharp material nanospikes at the surface attributable to strain relaxation. Simul…

Enhancement of calcium copper titanium oxide photoelectrochemical performance using boron nitride nanosheets

2020

International audience; Photoelectrochemical water splitting under visible light has attracted attention for renewable hydrogen production. Despite prevalent investigations, many challenges still hindered an efficient energy conversion, such as enhancing the reaction efficiency in visible light. Thus controlling the photoelectrode materials is an essential step in designing new materials for water splitting. CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) has received great attention as photocatalyst under solar light due to its combined band gap as result of the presence in its structure of TiO2 active in UV light and CuO active under visible light. In this work, a cubic CCTO with different amount of exfoliated hexago…

New Generation of Zeolite Materials for Environmental Applications.

2016

International audience; The influence of the morphology (microcrystals, nanocrystals, nanosponges and nanosheets) of MFI and *BEA-type zeolites on their adsorption capacities and adsorption rate of n-hexane at 25 ˚C has been investigated. The capacity of n-hexane adsorption sensitive to micro- and mesopore volume is enhanced by the use of zeolite nanocrystals or hierar-chical nanoporous materials (nanosheets and nanosponges). In the case of hierarchical zeolites MFI and *BEA nano-sponges, the n-hexane adsorption capacities reached values of about 790 and 693 mg/g, respectively, that are much higher than those in the corresponding microcrystals (130 and 103 mg/g, respectively). On the opposi…

Alkoxide-intercalated CoFe-layered double hydroxides as precursors of colloidal nanosheet suspensions: structural, magnetic and electrochemical prope…

2014

Alkoxide-intercalated CoFe-layered double hydroxides (CoFe–LDHs) were synthesized via the non-aqueous methanolic route. According to powder X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy, they exhibit a nanosized plate-like morphology with a basal space of 9.21 A. The hydrolysis of the material in water leads to colloidal suspensions of nanosheets with lateral dimensions of about 20 nm and thicknesses of ca. 4 nm as demonstrated by atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering. Atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy combined with electron energy-loss spectroscopy confirm the high crystalline quality of the crystals and the proper Co/Fe stoichio…

Two-dimensional self-assembly of disulfide functionalized bis-acylurea: a nanosheet template for gold nanoparticle arrays.

2010

A new functional bis-acylurea molecule allows a two-stage self-organization process. It self-organizes--at first--into 2D nanosheets with disulfide groups at the surface, which act--in the second stage--as a template for gold nanoparticle arrays.

Preferred Growth Direction by PbS Nanoplatelets Preserves Perovskite Infrared Light Harvesting for Stable, Reproducible, and Efficient Solar Cells

2020

Formamidinium-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) present the maximum theoretical efficiency of the lead perovskite family. However, formamidinium perovskite exhibits significant degradation in air. The surface chemistry of PbS has been used to improve the formamidinium black phase stability. Here, the use of PbS nanoplatelets with (100) preferential crystal orientation is reported, to potentiate the repercussion on the crystal growth of perovskite grains and to improve the stability of the material and consequently of the solar cells. As a result, a vertical growth of perovskite grains, a stable current density of 23 mA cm(-2), and a stable incident photon to current efficiency in the infr…
