Ground and excited state properties of polyamine chains bearing two terminal naphthalene units
2002
A series of compounds bearing two naphthalene units linked through methylene groups to both ends of different open-chain polyamines has been investigated. The fluorescence emission studies show the presence of an excimer species whose formation depends on the protonation state and length of the polyamine chains and implies the existence of a bending movement in the excited state allowing the two naphthalene units to approach and interact. This interpretation was clearly proven by time-resolved fluorescence with the appearance of double exponential decays with a rise time observed at the excimer emission wavelength. For comparison purposes one bis-chromophoric compound containing a rigid cha…
Fluorescent chemosensors based on cyclohexane: selective sensing of succinate and malonate versus their longer or shorter homologues
2008
The sensing properties towards aliphatic α,ω-dicarboxylates of five cyclohexane-based ligands are described. The studied ligands have been designed following the binding site-signalling unit approach and they all possess thiourea groups as recognition moieties. Ligands 1 and 3 containing naphthalene units can be used as fluorescent sensors as they form intra- or intermolecular excimers in the presence of appropriate dicarboxylates. Selective sensing of succinate and malonate versus their longer or shorter homologues has been observed.
Photochemical generation of benzene–naphthalene biplanemers
2005
Abstract A direct biplanemer synthesis could be achieved by a quantitative [4π+4π]photocycloaddition of benzyloxy substituted benzene and naphthalene rings ( 3d , e ⇄ 4d , e ). Since the products do not show a thermal Cope rearrangement—in contrast to the related longicyclic conjugated 9,10-benzotricyclo[4.2.2.2 2,5 ]dodeca-3,7,9-trienes—but a quantitative reverse reaction, they are interesting systems for an optical switching.

Naphthalene-2,6-diyl bis(4-methylbenzenesulfonate)
2018
The complete molecule of the title compound, C24H20O6S2, is generated by a crystallographic inversion centre at the middle of the naphthalene ring system. The dihedral angle between the naphthalene ring system and the pendant benzene ring is 10.23 (6)° and the C—S—O—C torsion angle is −172.05 (10)°. In the crystal, weak C—H...O interactions link the molecules into (10-1) sheets.
Crystal structure of 1-(2-fluorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene
2014
The asymmetric unit of the compound contains two independent conformers. Each conformer is stacked along the a axis to form columns through van der Waals interactions only.

Propagation of Artemisia Arborescens L. by stem-cutting: Adventitious root formation under different conditions
2012
Artemisia arborescens L. has gained a strong importance worldwide due to its many industrial uses and it has been recently considered as ornamental plant. A major constraint to its widespread cultivation is represented, by far, by the scarce availability of high-quality plant material for field establishment; hence, development of a fast and effective methods for its vegetative propagation is needed. An experiment was conducted to assess the effects of different harvest periods, NAA, and rooting substrates on rooting of stem cuttings of A. arborescens. Semi hardwood cuttings were collected from wild plants in February, April, and November. Half of the material was treated with 0.4% NAA and …
The influence of cerium to urea preparation ratio of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts for the total oxidation of naphthalene
2008
The influence of cerium salt/urea ratio on the activity of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts prepared by homogeneous precipitation with urea for the complete oxidation of naphthalene has been evaluated. Ceria catalysts were prepared from five different cerium salt/urea ratios (2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4). Catalyst characterization (by BET, XRD and TPR) only revealed subtle differences in the characteristics of these catalysts with cerium salt to urea ratio. However, Raman and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated differences in the oxygen defect concentration (FWHM of Raman band) and morphology of the catalysts with variation of the preparation ratio. Catalysts prepared with 2:…
Total oxidation of naphthalene using bulk manganese oxide catalysts
2013
Several Mn2O3 catalysts have been synthesized using different preparation methods and tested for the total oxidation of naphthalene, a model polycyclic aromatic compound. The catalysts have been characterized by several physico-chemical techniques such as XRD, TPR, XPS, EDX and TEM. The surface area of the catalyst seems to be of paramount importance, since the mass normalized activity of catalysts increases as the surface area of the Mn2O3 catalysts increases. Consequently, a high surface area ordered mesoporous Mn2O3 catalyst, obtained through a nanocasting route using mesoporous KIT-6 silica as a hard template, was the most efficient catalyst for the deep oxidation of naphthalene. In add…
