Efficacy and tolerability of a fixed dose combination of cortex phospholipid liposomes and cyanocobalamin for intramuscular use in peripheral neuropa…
2019
Peripheral neuropathies are frequently encourtered in clinical practice and are assiociated with a major impairment in quality of life . Howewvwr, their management reamans poor, and current therapies are often burdened with major side effects and can present poor efficacy on pain and functionality. Therefore, it has been suggested that the combination of two or more different drugs may improve analgesis efficacy and reduce side effects. Tricortin 1000 is formulated with 12 mg of Brain cortex phospholipid liposomes + 1000 microgrammi of Cyanocobalamin injectable (PL+ CNCb1) for intramuscolar use and is indicated in the tratment of poly-algo-neuropathic syndromes. This combination exerts a ma…
Effects of a vitamin D3 analogue in a rat model of bladder outlet obstruction
2006
OBJECTIVES To explore the effect of the vitamin D3 analogue, BXL-628, on some of the consequences of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), e.g. hypertrophy and loss of contractile function, as vitamin D3 and BXL-628 inhibit prostate and bladder cell growth in vitro, and there are receptors for vitamin D in rat and human bladder. MATERIAL AND METHODS In female rats, BOO was produced by a standardized method; one group received daily BXL-628 (150 µg/kg per day) and the remaining rats received vehicle. Sham-operated rats received BXL-628 or vehicle. After 2 weeks, the conscious rats were assessed by cystometry. Plasma calcium levels were determined and in vitro contractility assessed at the end of…
Identifying legitimate Web users and bots with different traffic profiles — an Information Bottleneck approach
2020
Abstract Recent studies reported that about half of Web users nowadays are intelligent agents (Web bots). Many bots are impersonators operating at a very high sophistication level, trying to emulate navigational behaviors of legitimate users (humans). Moreover, bot technology continues to evolve which makes bot detection even harder. To deal with this problem, many advanced methods for differentiating bots from humans have been proposed, a large part of which relies on supervised machine learning techniques. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to identify various profiles of bots and humans which combines feature selection and unsupervised learning of HTTP-level traffic patterns to d…
Valori perduti e perduta libertà. Croce e il dibattito tedesco sulla relatività dei valori
2017
The relativism of values (Werterelativismus) is a problem very central for the historicism debate, which concerned historians and phi- losophers at the beginning of the twentieth century. The historization of all knowledge and all values leads to their historical devaluation. How can values still be formulated and maintained in face of this relativization? This was the question of theorists such as Otto Hintze, Friedrich Meinecke, Max Weber and Ernst Troeltsch, as well as of the philosopher Benedetto Croce in times of emerging Fascism, that was regarded as a political and moral threat. As representatives of an intellectual and social liberalism, these academics developed their own strategie…
Efficient Model Repository for Web Applications
2018
Many model-based applications have been developed with standalone usage in mind. When migrating such applications to the web, we have to think about multiple users competing for limited server resources. In addition, we encounter the need to synchronize models via the network for client-side access. Thus, there is the risk that the model storage could become a bottleneck.
Temporal-range estimation of multiple objects: evidence for an early bottleneck.
2011
When making parallel time-to-contact (TTC) estimates of two approaching objects, the two respective TTC estimates interfere with one another in an asymmetric fashion. The TTC of the later-arriving object is systematically overestimated, while the estimated TTC for the first-arriving object is as accurate as in a condition presenting only a single object. This asymmetric interference points to a processing bottleneck that could be due to early (e.g., during the estimation of the TTC from the optic flow) or late (e.g., during the timing of the response or the motor execution) constraints in the TTC estimation process. We used a Sperling-like prediction-motion task to differentiate between the…
Validation of a Portuguese version of the Groningen radiotherapy-induced xerostomia questionnaire
2022
The aim of this study was to validate and determine at pretest level the reliability of the Portuguese version of the Groningen radiotherapy-induced xerostomia questionnaire. This study employed 37 head and neck cancer patients. Each patient signed an informed consent and responded to the Portuguese version of the questionnaire in the form of an interview. This was repeated again after 2 weeks. A standard single question provided a validity check. Data were analyzed using Cronbach?s ? to test its reliability and total and interitem correlation, and intraclass correlation to determine its internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Construct validity supported by objective measurements…
The effect of periodic bottlenecks on the competitive ability of Drosophila pseudoobscura lines.
1993
Competition experiments between several Drosophila pseudoobscura strains that were previously subjected to periodic bottlenecks of different sizes and D. willistoni have been carried out. Contrary to previous results with these two species, where stable coexistence was detected, populations of D. pseudoobscura displaced D. willistoni in a few generations. By using a relative fitness measure, the control lines (that had not gone through bottlenecks) outcompeted D. willistoni faster than bottlenecked lines. One of these, corresponding to the minimum possible bottleneck size of one pair, also shows significantly lower relative fitness than the other strains. These results are discussed in rela…
Nb-90 - a potential PET nuclide: production and labeling of monoclonal antibodies
2012
Abstract Fast progressing immuno-PET gives reasons to develop new potential medium-long and long-lived radioisotopes. One of the promising candidates is 90Nb. It has a half-life of 14.6 h, which allows visualizing and quantifying processes with medium and slow kinetics, such as tumor accumulation of antibodies and antibodies fragments or polymers and other nanoparticles. 90Nb exhibits a high positron branching of 53% and an optimal energy of β + emission of E mean=0.35 MeV only. Consequently, efficient radionuclide production routes and NbV labeling techniques are required. 90Nb was produced by the 90Zr(p,n) 90Nb nuclear reaction on natural zirconium targets. No-carrier-added (n.c.a.) 90Nb …
Precise and efficient parametric path analysis
2012
Hard real-time systems require tasks to finish in time. To guarantee the timeliness of such a system, static timing analyses derive upper bounds on the worst-case execution time (WCET) of tasks. There are two types of timing analyses: numeric and parametric. A numeric analysis derives a numeric timing bound and, to this end, assumes all information such as loop bounds to be given a priori. If these bounds are unknown during analysis time, a parametric analysis can compute a timing formula parametric in these variables. A performance bottleneck of timing analyses, numeric and especially parametric, is the so-called path analysis, which determines the path in the analyzed task with the longes…
