The production of active dried yeast (ADY) is a common practice in industry for the maintenance of yeast starters and as a means of long term storage. The process, however, causes multiple cell injuries, with oxidative damage being one of the most important stresses. Consequentially, dehydration tolerance is a highly appreciated property in yeast for ADY production. In this study we analyzed the cellular redox environment in three Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine strains, which show markedly different fermentative capacities after dehydration. The volume is devoted to images in painting, photography and cinema invented by literature. At the same time it intends to question, through this perspective, the relationship between text and image, between verbal and visual in modern and contemporary literature. The authors investigate the mutual boundaries between literature and arts from the point of view of aesthetics, visual culture and literary theory, trying to build a map of the notional ékphrasis, a description which constitutes the work of art while telling it.

This report concerns three unrelated floppy infants, two girls and one boy, each biopsied at the age of 1 month. They were hypotonic since birth and required artificial ventilation. The two girls died at the ages of 4 and 3½ months, respectively, the boy is still alive at the age of 2 years, but requires assisted ventilation. Each of the three infants showed, by muscle biopsy, abundant intranuclear rods, the boy and one girl also had sarcoplasmic rods, which were not present in the other girl's muscle. A research study on the parasitic nematodes of asparagus and several associated antagonists was carried out in Northern Peru. Nematodes were identified by means of light microscopy and sequencing of the ITS1-2 regions. Nematophagous fungi were isolated from nematode-infested roots or soil, cultured in vitro and maintained in a culture collection for further characterization. The species recovered were mainly root-knot nematodes including Meloidogyne incognita and M. ethiopica. We have carried out a high-precision astrometric analysis of two very-long-baseline-interferometry (VLBI) epochs of observation of the 13 extragalactic radio sources in the complete S5 polar cap sample. The VLBI epochs span a time baseline of ten years and enable us to achieve precisions in the proper motions of the source cores up to a few micro-arcseconds per year. The observations were performed at 14.4 GHz and 43.1 GHz, and enable us to estimate the frequency core-shifts in a subset of sources, for which the spectral-index distributions can be computed. Catching the radio flare in CTA 102

We performed multifrequency multiepoch Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations of the blazar CTA 102 during its 2006 radio flare, the strongest ever reported for this source. These observations provide an excellent opportunity to investigate the evolution of the physical properties of blazars, especially during these flaring events. We want to study the kinematic changes in the source during the strong radio outburst in April 2006 and test the assumption of a shock-shock interaction. This assumption is based on the analysis and modeling of the single-dish observations of CTA\,102 (Paper I).
