Appraisal of Burden of Caregivers to Chronically Rehabilitated Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries in a Tertiary Neurological Center in Nepal

The care of a patient with a spinal cord injury is part of healthcare systems. It causes a substantial physical and emotional drain on the caretakers who often are in short supply and thus may lack adequate training, preparation, and support. Long hours of assisting a chronically handicapped patient with activities of daily living and exercises decrease the rehabilitator's quality of life and take a psychological toll that increases a risk of burnout syndrome. Tiivistelmä: Naiset elävät nepalilaisessa kulttuurissa alisteisessa asemassa. Naisten sorrettu asema näkyy selkeästi muun muassa koulutussektorilla, keskimäärin naiset ovat miehiä vähemmän koulutettuja. Tähän epäkohtaan on pyritty puuttumaan erilaisin kansallisin ja kansainvälisin ohjelmin, mikä on johtanut peruskoulutukseen osallistuvien tyttöjen lukumäärän merkittävään kasvuun. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkastelin tyttöjen osallistumista nepalilaisessa kyläkoulussa. This study includes the voices and experiences of fifteen Nepali women who participated in the activities provided at two Community Leaning Centres (CLCs). CLCs provide various learning activities for the women in rural Nepal, where education opportunities for adult women are extremely lacking. Three new parakalummid mites of the subgenus Neoribates (Neoribates), N. (N.) parabulanovae sp. n., N. (N.) paramacrosacculatus sp. n. and N. (N.) pararotundus sp. n., are described from Nepalese soils. Neoribates (Neoribates) parabulanovae sp. n. is morphologically most similar to N. (N.) bulanovae Grishina, 2009, N. Pro gradu-työni aiheena on nepalilaisen hinduperheen uskonnollinen arki. Tarkastelen perheen uskonnollista arkea vasten kaupungistumisen ja keskiluokkaistumisen taustaa, sosiaalisia prosesseja, joissa tutkimani perhe on osallisena. Perhe kuuluu chhetri-kastiin, jonka uskonnon harjoittamista on tutkittu vähän. Tiivistelmä – Abstract Maisterintutkielmani aiheena on nepalilainen naamiotanssiryhmä, dyo khala. Esittelen ryhmän jäsenet ja tehtävät sekä pohdin minkälaiset ovat dyo khalan tulevaisuuden näkymät. Tutkimuskysymyksinäni minulla ovat ”minkälainen on dyo khalan rakenne ja mitä sen ydintoimintaan kuuluu” sekä ”miten dyo khalan jäsenet kokevat ryhmän jatkuvuuden suhteessa nykyajan haasteisiin.” Naamiotanssiryhmiä on tutkittu vähän, eikä kunnollista selvitystä ryhmän rakenteesta ole tehty. Experiences of left-behind family members of transnational migrant workers have been in the shadow of academic discourse on migration. To contribute to the slowly growing body of literature, this study explores the impact of male out-migration on left-behind wives. The study proposes and applies a novel framework to estimate Women Empowerment Index (WEI) for comparing the empowerment level across households with and without men in transnational labor.
