Information – theoretic characterization of concurrent activity of neural spike trains

The analysis of massively parallel spike train recordings facilitates investigation of communications and synchronization in neural networks. In this work we develop and evaluate a measure of concurrent neural activity, which is based on intrinsic firing properties of the recorded neural units. An overall single neuron activity is unfolded in time and decomposed into working and non-firing state, providing a coarse, binary representation of the neurons functional state. We propose a modified measure of mutual information to reflect the degree of simultaneous activation and concurrency in neural firing patterns. On-line tools for microscopic and macroscopic monitoring of microwave processing

International audience; Direct monitoring of temperature, chemistry and microstructure is required to understand microwave heating in more detail, in order to fully exploit the unique features this non-equilibrium processing method can offer. In this paper, we show first that microwave radiometry can be used to follow volumetrically the thermal trajectory of microwave-heated aluminium powder. In-situ Raman spectroscopy is then shown to evidence thermal gradients between diamond and silicon grains in a binary powder mixture. Finally, perspectives and preliminary results of microstructural analysis obtained from X-ray microtomography are presented.

A new weighted normal-based filter for 3D mesh denoising

In this paper, we propose a normal based filtering method for 3D mesh denoising. For this purpose, we compute the new triangle normal vectors by using a weighted sum of the average (smoothness) and the myriad (sharpness) filters in each neighborhood. These weights, that reflect the degree of the surface sharpness, are calculated according to the statistical distribution of the angles between the normal vectors of the triangles. For research purposes, a honeypot is a system that enables observing attacker’s actions in different phases of a cyberattack. In this study, a honeypot called Kippo was used to identify attack behavior in Finland. The gathered data consisted of dictionary attack login attempts, attacker location, and actions after successful login. From the data, attacker behavior was analyzed. This paper is concerned with the consistency of non-stationary multipath fading channels. We introduce conditions under which a channel model is consistent w.r.t. the average Doppler shift and the Doppler spread. The conditions are applied to two classes of non-stationary channel models. The first class, which is termed Class A, is characterized by channel models based on an integral relationship between the path phases and the associated time-variant Doppler frequencies.
