Treatment of patients often includes the administration of medications and sometimes radiation. While the intent is to treat an underlying condition, in some cases, adverse effects occur due to these agents. Most of these adverse effects are mild, however, some can be severe and life-threatening. Racionāla antibakteriālo līdzekļu lietošana akūta nekomplicēta cistīta gadījumā

Akūts nekomplicēts cistīts ir bieži sastopama infekcija, kuras ārstēšanai ir piemērotas dažādu grupu antibiotikas. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai Latvijā pacienti racionāli lieto antibiotikas urīnceļu infekciju ārstēšanai. Mērķa sasniegšanai tika veikta aptauja. Iegūtie dati liecina, ka visbiežāk urīnceļu infekcijas gadījumā pacienti lieto nitrofurantoīnu (47%), tad β-laktāma grupas antibiotikas(32%),fluorkvinolonu grupas antibiotikas (13%) un TMP/SMX kombināciju(8%). Cefalosporīnu grupas antibiotikas netika lietotas nevienā gadījumā. Veikts ieskats kristālu augšanā un sameklēta informācija par nitrofurantoīnu un tā formām. Darba eksperimentālajā daļā apskatīta piedevu ietekme uz nitrofurantoīna polimorfās formas veidošanos. Veikti nukleācijas, šķīšanas un datormodelēšanas eksperimenti.

In this paper, we describe the distribution of antimicrobial resistance to amikacin, tobramycin, ampicillin, amoxicillin clavulanate, cefuroxime, cefoxitin, cefotaxime, imipenem, ciprofloxacin, fosfomycin, nitrofurantoin, and trimetoprim-sulfametoxazole in more than 100,000 E. coli isolates according to culture site and patient age, gender, and location. Reductive and oxidative metabolism of nitrofurantoin in rat liver.

The elimination of nitrofurantoin was studied in the isolated rat liver using a recirculating hemoglobin-free perfusion system. The most rapid clearance of nitrofurantoin (0.1 mM) was found under hypoxia (8 ml/min) or anoxia (11 ml/min) indicating a fast and oxygen-sensitive reductive metabolism. The hepatic elimination of nitrofurantoin under anaerobic conditions apparently is not catalyzed by xanthine oxidase, aldehyde oxidase or cytochrome P-450 as judged from the lack of influence of the inhibitors (0.1 mM) allopurinol, menadione, metyrapone, α-naphthoflavone or of carbon monoxide (50%; v/v). Evaluation of Aspects Controlling Crystallization of Nitrofurantoin

Nitrofurantoin was crystallized from multiple mixtures of water and organic solvents with and without additives to try to find and identify factors affecting phase obtained in crystallization and provide possible information on crystallization control. Obtained crystals were identified with powder X-ray diffractometry. Crystallization control possibilities were evaluated by using polymer additives and crystallization additives, by also using quantum chemical calculations to investigate the association of nitrofurantoin and additive molecules and calculate Gibbs energy of association.
