A simple and general synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical bis(arylamino)methanes. Reactions of N,O‐acetals with nitrogen bases

1988

Bis(arylamino)methanes 4 free of amine contamination have been efficiently synthesized from N,O-acetals 1 following three different methodologies. The first two are useful for symmetrical aminals and involve the decomposition of an N,O-acetal by a base (phenyllithium or a lithium arylamide) and trapping of the resulting methyleneamine 2 by the equimolar amount of the corresponding arylamine. The third method allows the preparation of either symmetrical or unsymmetrical aminals and consists of decomposing the starting N,O-acetal 1 by heating in vacuo in the presence of the desired arylamine. Investigation of nitrogen and helium cryosorption on molecular sieves

1994

Abstract The helium-containing plasma exhaust gases of Tokamaks can be pumped by cryopumps using cryosorption panels coated with solid porous materials. The best pumping characteristics are achieved with activated charcoal and molecular sieves at temperatures below 10 K. In order to select the most suitable material with respect to cryosorption properties and reactivation behaviour, comparative tests on various molecular sieve types differing in cavity structure, pore size and polarity were carried out. Nitrogen and helium adsorption isotherms were determined at LN 2 temperature and at 14.5 K, respectively, expecting that an extrapolation mechanism between the adsorption properties of both …

Decongestion discriminates risk for one-year mortality in patients with improving renal function in acute heart failure

2021

Aims Improving renal function (IRF) is paradoxically associated with worse outcomes in acute heart failure (AHF), but outcomes may differ based on response to decongestion. We explored if the relationship of IRF with mortality in hospitalized AHF patients differs based on successful decongestion. Methods and results We evaluated 760 AHF patients from AKINESIS for the relationship between IRF, change in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and 1-year mortality. IRF was defined as a >= 20% increase in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) relative to admission. Adequate decongestion was defined as a >= 40% decrease in last measured BNP relative to admission. IRF occurred in 22% of pat…

The addition of interleukin-2 to cyclophosphamide therapy can facilitate tumor growth of B16 melanoma.

1995

The role of interleukin-2 (IL-2) on tumor growth of B16F10 melanoma cells was assessed in two sets of mice with different immune status: normal (immunocompetent) mice and immunodeficient mice. The two sets of animals were treated with cyclophosphamide (CY) or IL-2 alone or with a combined therapy of CY+IL-2. On days 6 and 10 after tumor cell injection, we evaluated the incidence of hepatic B16 melanoma metastases and the percentage of hepatic volume occupied by metastatic tissue. We observed that the CY alone (300 mg/kg, days 3 and 8 post-tumoral inoculation) significantly reduced tumor growth in all treated mice; however, CY proved more effective in normal recipients than in immunodeficien…

Biological nutrient removal using intermittent aeration in a hybrid moving bed biofilm reactor

2012

The paper presents an experimental study on a lab scale pilot plant in a Hybrid Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor. The pilot plant was fed with synthetic wastewater and was in operation considering two different operating conditions: continuous aeration and intermittent aeration. Both continuous and intermittent aeration were monitored and compared in order to seek the best conditions for carbon and nitrogen removal. At the beginning of the experimentation, an initial period of about 90 days was considered during which the pilot plant worked in bench scale configuration for allowing the formation of biofilm on the carriers. Once the biofilm growth was accomplished, the pilot plant worked for a fir…

Dinitrosyl-iron triggers apoptosis in Jurkat cells despite overexpression of Bcl-2

2004

Cells expressing the cytokine-inducible NO synthase are known to trigger apoptosis in neighboring cells. Paramagnetic dinitrosyl nonheme iron complexes (DNIC) were found in tumor tissue about 40 years ago; however, the role of these NO(+)-bearing species is not completely understood. In the human Jurkat leukemia cell line, the application of the model complex DNIC-thiosulfate (50-200 microM) induced apoptosis (defined by phosphatidylserine externalization) in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. In Jurkat cells, the pan-caspase inhibitor, zVADfmk (50 microM), and/or stable transfection of antiapoptotic protein, Bcl-2, was unable to afford protection against DNIC-induced apoptosis. Th…

Thermal desorption gas chromatography with mass spectrometry study of outgassing from polymethacrylimide foam (Rohacell®)

2015

Polymethacrylimide foams are used as light structural materials in outer-space devices; however, the foam closed cells contain volatile compounds that are outgassed even at low temperatures. These compounds ignite as plasmas under outer-space radiation and the intense radio-frequency fields used in communications. Since plasmas may cause spacecraft fatal events, the conditions in which they are ignited should be investigated. Therefore, qualitative and quantitative knowledge about polymethacrylimide foam outgassing should be established. Using thermogravimetric analysis, weight losses reached 3% at ca. 200°C. Thermal desorption gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection was used to…

A Domino Ring‐Closure Followed by Retro‐Diels–Alder Reaction for the Preparation of Pyrimido[2,1‐ a ]isoindole Enantiomers

2016

A simple method was developed to prepare pyrimido[2,1-a]isoindole derivatives by using di-endo- and di-exo-ethyl 3-aminobicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-carboxylate enantiomers as chiral sources. The method is based on a domino ring-closure reaction of norbornene 2-aminohydroxamic acid followed by microwave-induced retro-Diels–Alder reaction. In the case of enantiomeric starting substances, the chirality is transferred from norbornene derivatives to pyrimido[2,1-a]isoindoles. The configurations of the synthesized compounds were determined by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy [based on 2D NOE cross-peaks and 3JH,H coupling constants] and X-ray crystallography.
