A microcalorimetric comparison of the effect ofn-alkane preadsorption on the adsorption of argon and nitrogen on Silicalite-I
1994
Then-alkanes of different lengths were preadsorbed to selectively block part of the micropores of a MFI-type zeolite, Silicalite-I. The porosity available to argon and nitrogen was then studied by quasi-equilibrium adsorption microcalorimetry and volumetry at 77K and compared to what was found for the bare zeolite. Indeed, although partial adsorption ofn-alkanes does not alter the value of the differential enthalpies of adsorption for both argon and nitrogen, then-butane preadsorption diminishes the adsorption capacity by inducing inaccessible volumes in the micropore network. Moreover, the microcalorimetric experiments clearly show thatn-butane is not evenly distributed in the zeolite chan…
Hydrophobic effects in the stabilisation of copper(I) by the macrocyclic ligands 16,17,19,20-tetramethyl-2,6,9,13-tetraaza[14]paracyclophane and 14,1…
1996
Abstract The interaction of Cu 2+ with the para -azacychlophanes 16,17,19,20-tetramethyl-2,6,9,13-tetraazal[14]paracyclophane (L1) and 14,15,17,18-tetramethyl-2,5,8,11-tetraaza[12]paracyclophane (L2) has been studied by potentiometry, and direct microcalorimetry at 298.1±0.1 K in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaClO 4 . The stability constants (log K CuLi = 13.35(3), log K CuL2 = 9.32(4)) and the thermodynamic parameters ( ΔH ° CuL1 = −47.3(8) kJ mol −1 , ΔH ° CuL2 = 20.9(8) kJ mol −1 ) evidence that not all four nitrogen atoms in the ligands are involved in the coordination to the metal centre. These results, particulary in the case of L1, are similar to those reported for the analogous cyclophanes contai…
Acute pancreatitis in children. An Italian multicentre study
2002
Abstract Aim . To evaluate the clinical, morphological and aetiological aspects of acute pancreatitis in children in Italy. Patients . The hospital records of 50 consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis observed in 5 Italian Pediatric Departments were reviewed. Results . A total of 25 males and 25 females (median age 10.5 years, range 2–17) were studied. Of these patients, 48 (96%) had abdominal pain. The pancreatitis was associated with biliary disease in 10 patients (20%); it was due to viral infection in 6 patients (12%), pancreatic duct abnormalities in 4 (8%), familial chronic pancreatitis in 3 (6%), trauma in 5 (10%) and other causes in 5 (10%); the pancreatitis was of unknown ori…
Rapid continous radiochemical separations by thermochromatography in connection with a gas-jet recoil-transport system
1980
Abstract A combination of a gas-jet recoil-transport system with a thermochromatographic system has been studied as a technique for rapid, continuous radiochemical separations. Fission products were used as a model for complex mixtures of elements. A nitrogen gas-jet containing potassium chloride clusters was applied to transport nuclides produced in a reactor from the target area to the thermochromatographic column. Conversion of the reaction products carried by the gas-jet volatile species was achieved by stopping the clusters in a quartz-wool plug located in the column and kept at high temperatures and feeding a reactive gas into the column. Several reactive gases producing volatile chlo…
In situ quantification of the nitrogen content of olivine-hosted melt inclusions from Klyuchevskoy volcano (Kamchatka): Implications for nitrogen rec…
2021
International audience; Assessing the N content of arc magmas and their mantle source remains a challenge because the volatile element composition of melts and gases can be modified during magma ascent, storage, and eruption. Given that melt inclusions (MIs) in Mg-rich olivine represent the best proxies for primary arc melts, we applied, for the first time, an in situ high-resolution secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) method to determine the N concentration in olivine-hosted MIs from Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka. To reverse the effects of post-entrapment modification processes (i.e., exsolution of volatiles into a fluid bubble), the MIs were partially to completely homogenized at h…
Cellulolytic bacteria joined with deproteinized whey decrease carbon to nitrogen ratio and improve stability of compost from wine production chain by…
2022
Composting residues from wine and dairy chains would contribute to increase the environmental sustainability of the production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of deproteinized whey combined with bioactivators on the composting process. Bacillus velezensis and Kocuria rhizophila, bacteria with cellulolytic activity, were isolated from raw materials and inoculated in the organic mass to be composted. Piles moistened with deproteinized whey showed the highest reduction of total and dissolved organic carbon due to the stimulation of bacterial activity by nitrogen compounds held within deproteinized whey. Such findings were also confirmed by the speed up of the microbial carbo…
Distillation and stripping pilot plants for the JUNO neutrino detector: Design, operations and reliability
2019
Abstract This paper describes the design, construction principles and operations of the distillation and stripping pilot plants tested at the Daya Bay Neutrino Laboratory, with the perspective to adapt these processes, system cleanliness and leak-tightness standards to the final full scale plants to be used for the purification of the liquid scintillator of the JUNO neutrino detector. The main goal of these plants is to remove radio impurities from the liquid scintillator while increasing its optical attenuation length. Purification of liquid scintillator will be performed with a system combining alumina oxide, distillation, water extraction and steam (or N 2 gas) stripping. Such a combined…
Effect of nitrogen fertilizer level on quality and shelf-life of fresh cut Swiss chard
2018
Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla L.) is a leafy vegetable highly appreciated in some areas for its nutritional properties and year round supply. Its production area is not commercially important, but this minor vegetable offers an interesting enlargement of the current vegetable assortment by using its stalks and leaves. Swiss chard is a very nutritive demanding species. The content of mineral elements, total quality and yield are influenced by the amount, frequency and method of fertilization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high or low levels of nitrogen fertilization on the quality and shelf-life of minimally processed Swiss chard. Plants grown with a high (18…
Charge Mobility and Dynamics in Spin-Crossover Nanoparticles Studied by Time-Resolved Microwave Conductivity
2018
We use the electrode-less time-resolved microwave conductivity (TRMC) technique to characterize spin-crossover (SCO) nanoparticles. We show that TRMC is a simple and accurate mean for simultaneously as-sessing the magnetic state of SCO compounds and charge transport information on the nanometre length scale. In the low-spin state from liquid nitrogen temperature up to 360 K the TRMC measurements present two well-defined regimes in the mobility and in the half-life times, possessing similar transition tempera-tures TR near 225 K. Below TR, an activation-less regime associated with short lifetimes of the charge carri-ers points at the presence of shallow-trap states. Above TR, these states ar…
N-Heterocyclic Carbenes with Inorganic Backbones: Electronic Structures and Ligand Properties
2008
The electronic structures of known N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) with boron, nitrogen, and phosphorus backbones are examined using quantum chemical methods and compared to the experimental results and to the computational data obtained for a classical carbon analogue, imidazol-2-ylidene. The sigma-donor and pi-acceptor abilities of the studied NHCs in selected transition-metal complexes are evaluated using a variety of approaches such as energy and charge decomposition analysis, as well as calculated acidity constants and carbonyl stretching frequencies. The study shows that the introduction of selected heteroatoms into the NHC backbone generally leads to stronger metal-carbene bonds and t…
