Optimal Local Routing Strategies for Community Structured Time Varying Communication Networks
2017
International audience; In time varying data communication networks (TVCN), traffic congestion, system utility maximization and network performance enhancement are the prominent issues. All these issues can be resolved either by optimizing the network structure or by selecting efficient routing approaches. In this paper, we focus on the design of a time varying network model and propose an algorithm to find efficient user route in this network. Centrality plays a very important role in finding congestion free routes. Indeed, the more a node is central, the more it can be congested by the flow coming from or going to its neighborhood. For that reason, classically, routes are chosen such that…
OLS Identification of network topologies
2011
Abstract In many applications, it is important to derive information about the topology and the internal connections of more dynamical systems interacting together. Examples can be found in fields as diverse as Economics, Neuroscience and Biochemistry. The paper deals with the problem of deriving a descriptive model of a network, collecting the node outputs as time series with no use of a priori insight on the topology. We cast the problem as the optimization of a cost function where a set of parameters are used to operate a trade-off between accuracy and complexity in the final model. The problem of reducing the complexity is addressed by fixing a certain degree of sparsity and finding the…
Characterization of Human γδ T Lymphocytes Infiltrating Primary Malignant Melanomas
2012
T lymphocytes are often induced naturally in melanoma patients and infiltrate tumors. Given that gamma delta T cells mediate antigen-specific killing of tumor cells, we studied the representation and the in vitro cytokine production and cytotoxic activity of tumor infiltrating gamma delta T cells from 74 patients with primary melanoma. We found that gamma delta T cells represent the major lymphocyte population infiltrating melanoma, and both V delta 1(+) and V delta 2(+) cells are involved. The majority of melanoma-infiltrating gamma delta cells showed effector memory and terminally-differentiated phenotypes and, accordingly, polyclonal gamma delta T cell lines obtained from tumor-infiltrat…
A Sensitive Nanosensor for the In Situ Detection of the Cannibal Drug.
2020
[EN] A bio-inspired nanodevice for the selective and sensitive fluorogenic detection of 3,4- methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), usually known as Cannibal drug, is reported. The sensing nanodevice is based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs), loaded with a fluorescent reporter (rhodamine B) and functionalized on their external surface with a dopamine derivative (3), which specifically interacts with the recombinant human dopamine transporter (DAT), capping the pores. In the presence of MDPV, DAT detaches from the MSNs consequently causing rhodamine B release and allowing drug detection. The nanosensor shows a detection limit of 5.2 µM and it is able to detect the MDPV drug both in sali…
Functional characterization of Tat protein from human immunodeficiency virus. Evidence that Tat links viral RNAs to nuclear matrix.
1990
The processes of transcription and posttranscription are assumed to proceed in close association with the nuclear matrix. In this study we demonstrated that Tat, the trans-activating protein from human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), binds both to the TAR region of the nascent HIV mRNAs and the nuclear matrix with high affinity. Both North/Western blotting experiments and nitrocellulose binding studies revealed that Tat binds with an association constant (K alpha) of approximately 1 x 10(9) M-1 to the TAR segment of HIV RNA; binding of Tat to this sequence which is present between position 32 and 82 downstream from the TATA box was also confirmed by gel retardation assays. Binding of…
The cost of an action potential.
2000
Neuronal modules, or 'cell-assemblies', comprising millions of mutually interconnected cells have been postulated to form the basis of many functions of the brain, such as mood, sleep, hunger, vigilance, and more. Depending on the extent of the module, neurocommunication in cell-assemblies might exceed metabolic resources. A medium-size (10000 neurons) module would require at least 10 J per l of brain, based on a calculated cost of an isolated action potential (AP) of 10(11)-10(12) molecules of ATP per cm(2) of cell membrane, with an absolute minimum of 10(6) ATP at a node of Ranvier. The figure matches the cost of depolarizing the unmyelinated axon of the large monopolar cell in the blowfl…

Boron-doped diamond electrodes allow the direct anodic cross-coupling of phenols in hexafluoroisopropanol without using leaving functions or protecting groups.
Globālās pozicionēšanas datu savākšanas, apstrādāšanas un attēlošanas sistēma
2016
Using Matlab's wavelet toolbox to compare electric signals outputted by microbial fuel cells
2019
Motivation: microbial fuel cells (MFC) represents a wastewater treatment technology with the potential for a relevant electric energy generation. The monitoring of the electric current outputted generates time series of data. It was generated two time series using an experimental setup with a low-cost dual chamber microbial fuel cell treating cassava wastewater and, also, it was used the electric current data from a previously described experiment with this same setup treating cheese whey. All of this, innovatively, according our best knowledge, was studied using power spectral density, multifractal and wavelet coherence analysis. Results are promising and indeed point out this approach as …
A single-chamber membraneless microbial fuel cell exposed to air using Shewanella putrefaciens
2016
Abstract Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) are bio-electrochemical devices which convert the chemical energy content of organic fuels into electricity, thanks to the ability of anode respiring bacteria to give electrons to the anode. This result is usually achieved under anaerobic conditions, obtained with a sealed anode chamber. Despite this, Shewanella oneidensis has been recognized by many authors to obtain the same results in presence of air. Furthermore, another member of the Pseudomonaceae family, Shewanella putrefaciens, has also shown the capability to catalyze the cathodic oxygen reduction. In this work the capability of S. putrefaciens to work under both anaerobic and micro-aerobic cond…
