Light-induced nonthermal population of optical phonons in nanocrystals

Raman spectroscopy is widely used to study bulk and nanomaterials, where information is frequently obtained from spectral line positions and intensities. In this study, we monitored the Raman spectrum of ensembles of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) as a function of optical excitation intensity (optical excitation experiments). We observe that in NCs the red-shift of the Raman peak position with increasing light power density is much steeper than that recorded for the corresponding bulk material. Towards Atomically Precise Supported Catalysts from Monolayer‐Protected Clusters: The Critical Role of the Support

Abstract Controlling the size and uniformity of metal clusters with atomic precision is essential for fine‐tuning their catalytic properties, however for clusters deposited on supports, such control is challenging. Here, by combining X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, it is shown that supports play a crucial role in the evolution of monolayer‐protected clusters into catalysts. Based on the acidic nature of the support, cluster‐support interactions lead either to fragmentation of the cluster into isolated Au–ligand species or ligand‐free metallic Au0 clusters. Chiral footprint of the ligand layer in the all-alkynyl-protected gold nanocluster Au144(CCPhF)60

The electronic structure and chiroptical properties of the recently isolated and structurally characterized all-alkynyl-protected gold nanocluster Au144(CCPhF)60 were analyzed via density functional theory (DFT) computations and compared to those of the structurally similar all-thiolate-protected Au144(SCH2Ph)60. While DFT predicts very strong CD signals of similar strength for both clusters, the origins of chiroptical activity are markedly different. Magma extrusion during the Ubinas 2013-2014 eruptive crisis based on satellite thermal imaging (MIROVA) and ground-based monitoring

International audience; After 3 years of mild gases emissions, the Ubinas volcano entered in a new eruptive phase on September 2nd, 2013. The MIROVA system (a space-based volcanic hot-spot detection system), allowed us to detect in near real time the thermal emissions associated with the eruption and provided early evidence of magma extrusion within the deep summit crater. By combining IR data with plume height, sulfur emissions, hot spring temperatures and seismic activity, we interpret the thermal output detected over Ubinas in terms of extrusion rates associated to the eruption. Rare earths behaviour during the deposition of volcanic sublimates

Abstract In this study, the REE distribution between volcanic fluids and related solids in fumaroles with temperatures ranging from approximately 100 to 421 °C was investigated in different geological scenarios. The treatment of geochemical REE data was carried out by calculating the REE enrichment factors (EF REE ) relative to the volcanic host rocks in studied sites under the assumption that the REE transport takes place as silicate aerosol in volcanic fluids. The global bio-events at the Cenomanian-Turonian transition in the reduced Bahloul Formation of Bou Ghanem (central Tunisia).

In central Tunisia, the thickness of the Bahloul Formation varies generally between 20 to 40 m such as for example, respectively, at wadi Smara near Kalaat Senan and at wadi Bahloul near Maktar. The thickness is also of several tens metres at Koudiat el Azreg near Jerissa and at Tajerouine.
