Uniqueness of positive solutions to some nonlinear Neumann problems

2017

Abstract Using the moving plane method, we obtain a Liouville type theorem for nonnegative solutions of the Neumann problem { div ( y a ∇ u ( x , y ) ) = 0 , x ∈ R n , y > 0 , lim y → 0 + ⁡ y a u y ( x , y ) = − f ( u ( x , 0 ) ) , x ∈ R n , under general nonlinearity assumptions on the function f : R → R for any constant a ∈ ( − 1 , 1 ) .

Common Fixed Points of a Pair of Hardy Rogers Type Mappings on a Closed Ball in Ordered Dislocated Metric Spaces

2013

Common fixed point results for mappings satisfying locally contractive conditions on a closed ball in an ordered complete dislocated metric space have been established. The notion of dominated mappings is applied to approximate the unique solution of nonlinear functional equations. Our results improve several well-known conventional results.

Equivariant cohomology, Fock space and loop groups

2006

Equivariant de Rham cohomology is extended to the infinite-dimensional setting of a loop subgroup acting on a loop group, using Hida supersymmetric Fock space for the Weil algebra and Malliavin test forms on the loop group. The Mathai–Quillen isomorphism (in the BRST formalism of Kalkman) is defined so that the equivalence of various models of the equivariant de Rham cohomology can be established.

Multiple Solutions with Sign Information for a Class of Coercive (p, 2)-Equations

2019

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet equation driven by the sum of a p-Laplacian and of a Laplacian (a (p, 2)-equation). The hypotheses on the reaction f(z, x) are minimal and make the energy (Euler) functional of the problem coercive. We prove two multiplicity theorems producing three and four nontrivial smooth solutions, respectively, all with sign information. We apply our multiplicity results to the particular case of a class of parametric (p, 2)-equations.

Fixed points of α-type F-contractive mappings with an application to nonlinear fractional differential equation

2016

Abstract In this paper, we introduce new concepts of α-type F-contractive mappings which are essentially weaker than the class of F-contractive mappings given in [21, 22] and different from α-GF-contractions given in [8]. Then, sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of fixed point are established for these new types of contractive mappings, in the setting of complete metric space. Consequently, the obtained results encompass various generalizations of the Banach contraction principle. Moreover, some examples and an application to nonlinear fractional differential equation are given to illustrate the usability of the new theory.

Devroye Inequality for a Class of Non-Uniformly Hyperbolic Dynamical Systems

2005

In this paper, we prove an inequality, which we call "Devroye inequality", for a large class of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems (M,f). This class, introduced by L.-S. Young, includes families of piece-wise hyperbolic maps (Lozi-like maps), scattering billiards (e.g., planar Lorentz gas), unimodal and H{\'e}non-like maps. Devroye inequality provides an upper bound for the variance of observables of the form K(x,f(x),...,f^{n-1}(x)), where K is any separately Holder continuous function of n variables. In particular, we can deal with observables which are not Birkhoff averages. We will show in \cite{CCS} some applications of Devroye inequality to statistical properties of this class…

Sharp Poincaré inequalities in a class of non-convex sets

2018

Let $gamma$ be a smooth, non-closed, simple curve whose image is symmetric with respect to the $y$-axis, and let $D$ be a planar domain consisting of the points on one side of $gamma$, within a suitable distance $delta$ of $gamma$. Denote by $mu_1^{odd}(D)$ the smallest nontrivial Neumann eigenvalue having a corresponding eigenfunction that is odd with respect to the $y$-axis. If $gamma$ satisfies some simple geometric conditions, then $mu_1^{odd}(D)$ can be sharply estimated from below in terms of the length of $gamma$ , its curvature, and $delta$. Moreover, we give explicit conditions on $delta$ that ensure $mu_1^{odd}(D)=mu_1(D)$. Finally, we can extend our bound on $mu_1^{odd}(D)$ to a …

Weak commutation relations of unbounded operators: Nonlinear extensions

2013

We continue our analysis of the consequences of the commutation relation $[S,T]=\Id$, where $S$ and $T$ are two closable unbounded operators. The {\em weak} sense of this commutator is given in terms of the inner product of the Hilbert space $\H$ where the operators act. {We also consider what we call, adopting a physical terminology}, a {\em nonlinear} extension of the above commutation relations.

The three-vertex in the closed half-string field theory and the general gluing and resmoothing theorem

1997

In this letter we prove that the half-string three-vertex in closed string field theory satisfies the general gluing and resmoothing theorem. We also demonstrate how one calculates amplitudes in the half-string approach to closed string field theory, by working out explicitly a few simple three-amplitudes.
