Moderate ovarian stimulation does not increase the incidence of human embryo chromosomal abnormalities in in vitro fertilization cycles.
2012
A high chromosomal abnormalities rate has been observed in human embryos derived from in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. The real incidence in natural cycles has been poorly studied, so whether this frequency may be induced by external factors, such as use of gonadotropins for ovarian stimulation, remains unknown. We conducted a prospective cohort study in a University-affiliated private infertility clinic with a comparison between unstimulated and stimulated ovarian cycles in the same women. Preimplantation genetic screening by fluorescence in situ hybridization was performed in all viable d 3 embryos. The primary objective was to compare the incidence of embryo chromosomal abnormaliti…
Health outcomes of children born after IVF/ICSI: a review of current expert opinion and literature
2014
The Sixth Evian Annual Reproduction (EVAR) Workshop Group Meeting was held to evaluate the impact of IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection on the health of assisted-conception children. Epidemiologists, reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists and geneticists presented data from published literature and ongoing research on the incidence of genetic and epigenetic abnormalities and congenital malformations in assisted-conception versus naturally conceived children to reach a consensus on the reasons for potential differences in outcomes between these two groups. IVF-conceived children have lower birthweights and higher peripheral fat, blood pressure and fasting glucose concentrations than …
Cautionary Note on the Two-Step Transformation to Normality
2019
ABSTRACT Templeton and Burney (2017) proposed a two-step normality transformation as a remedy for non-normally distributed data, which are commonly found in AIS research. We argue that, rather than transforming the data toward normality, researchers should first seek to analyze and understand the sources of non-normality. Using simulated datasets, we demonstrate three sources of non-normality and their consequences for regression estimation. We then demonstrate that the two-step transformation cannot solve any of these problems and that each source of non-normality can be handled with alternative, existing techniques. We further present two empirical examples to demonstrate these issues wit…
Combining fuzzy C-mean and normalized convolution for cloud detection in IR images
2009
An important task for the cloud monitoring in several frameworks is providing maps of the cloud coverage. In this paper we present a method to detect cloudy pixels for images taken from ground by an infra-red camera. The method is a three-steps algorithm mainly based on a Fuzzy C-Mean clustering, that works on a feature space derived from the original image and the output of the reconstructed image obtained via normalized convolution. Experiments, run on several infra-red images acquired under different conditions, show that the cloud maps returned are satisfactory. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
A hexaicosametallic copper(ii) phosphonate
2013
Structure and characterization of [Cu26{2,3,5,6-(Me)4C6H-CH2-PO3}18(μ2-OH)4(μ3-OH)6(μ4-Cl)6(μ-OH2)2(OH2)2(MeCN)4]·6MeCN·15H2O (1) is reported. Complex 1 is the largest discrete molecular homometallic transition metal phosphonate assembly. Remarkably, this gigantic molecular phosphonate has been prepared at room temperature using a normal solution synthetic method.
Toxicity of lindane, atrazine, and deltamethrin to early life stages of zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio).
1990
Fertilized eggs of zebrafish were exposed under flow-through conditions to several concentrations of the following pesticides: lindane 40, 80, 110, 130, and 150 micrograms/liter; atrazine 300, 1300, and 9100 micrograms/liter; deltamethrin 0.5, 0.8, and 1.2 micrograms/liter. Hatching, abnormalities in development (external deformations, edema, etc.), and mortality were recorded over a period of 35 days. At the end of the experiment, the body lengths of the fish were measured. Survival of juvenile fish after 35 days was reduced by increasing concentrations of all xenobiotics tested: lindane enhanced the mortality from 110 micrograms/liter and atrazine from 1300 micrograms/liter, and deltameth…
Occupations of Housing and Social Centers in Rome: A Durable Resistance to Neoliberalism and Institutionalization
2017
Squatting for housing and social centers has a long tradition in Rome since the end of the 1960s. By the mid-1970s, the occupation of buildings to set up political and social activities became part of the repertoire of left radical movements. In this chapter a set of 34 squatted spaces for housing and social centers in Rome active in 2014 is analysed. Squatting practices thus provide a lens to interpret the evolution of urban struggles, urban development and the changing sociopolitical contexts. Furthermore, Mudu and Rossini examine the role played by the processes of neutralization, co-optation, normalization and contention that explain the institutionalization of squatting in the city of …

SINCONAPP: A Computerized learning tool for CBCT normal anatomy and variants of the nose and paranasal sinuses
2014
1. Purpose To supply an useful learning tool aimed to interactively display on mobile devices normal anatomy and variants of the nose and paranasal sinuses as seen on CBCT images. 2. Methods and Materials Images Images of the nose and paranasal sinuses were derived by a study series acquired by a CBCT device. CBCT studies of the paranasal sinuses were acquired in patients referred for nasal obstruction or sinusitis with the following parameters: 90 kVp, 12.5 mA, 20 s rotation time, FOV 13 x 14.5 cm, 0.25 x 0.25 x 0.25 mm voxel size. Software The application has been developed for iOS based mobile devices through the platform XCode provided by Apple®, and it is developed using the Objective-…
